  1. Nightkin,

Jaegermeister is a tough mission. Its the advanced tutorial, for advnced players.

    It still gives me moments.

my trick against the AI is simple, edge towards the center. I move mostly across the vally to the forest on the left of the start area, and I use the arty spotters to pound the forest across from that area.

Once that forest is taken, I go around the southern flank.

Watch for AT guns on the far ridge.

    *********************************************

If you create a covered arc for your tanks , you can control which tanks they engage,

  2. Nightkin,

Welcome to the world of CM,

There are actualy quite a few scenarios you could try. But maybe a few details about exactly what problems you have.

What force type do you use?

What battle type are you playing?

    What units do you have?

    What enemys are you facing?

How are you deploying your units?

    Etc Etc.

The fact is that skill increases with practice. and on the road to becoming a skillfull commander you are going to have to learn by the old reliable method of falling on your face like the rest of us. Dont worry though, you will figure things out, and there are a lot of vetrans here to help you.

  3. J Ruddy, Put down the crack pipe please,

The industrial assembly line was first applied to the textile industry of england, addapted to the arms industry of england, and then the furniture industry of america.

The american auto industry addopted the already existing idea of the assembly line.

The LOCOMOTIVE industry, NOT the auto industry, was the main producer of tanks in america.

And its canADIans not canukians you f**king dolt.

The M4 sherman is STILL a respected design, and remains the foundation of most modern tank manufacture.

It was never a super tank, but it was and is today, a very good tank.

Like all good tanks, the M4 is a compromise, Unlike most tanks, the M4 chassis is extremely flexible and addaptable.

the M4 was designed to be easily upgradable.

The M4 was one of the 3 tanks that determined allmost all subsequent tank design, The others were the T34 and the PzIV,

while you are paying salty's bar tab (its comparable with the defense budget for 6 third world countrys by now I expect) You might want to try cracking open a BOOK, and doing some f**king research

  4. Notwithstanding the screeching of monkeys in several "!Shermans suck!" threads,

the M4 sherman was a very good tank. It had several on board MGs, A well designed interior layout, A good cupola for the comander, and exelent armour in front.

the shorter 75mm gun was not realy meant for anti tank work, (although in a pinch it could do the job) But the later, longer 75mm and the 76mm were quite effective against tanks.

So you realy are facing a very dangerous enemy.

You want a side shot from ambush.

Also wait untill they are almost on top of you, the closer you are, the more chance of a full penetration.

Remember they have a fast turning turret, they can swing around on you and return fire very quickly.

PS early shermans are rather flamable when punched

  5. Para,

    AFVs are crap,

    Tanks arent much better,

    Invest in designated tank killers.

AT guns supported by AT rifles and LMGs are my preference,

If I need mobility I'll invest in a SP AT gun or 3, But I dont expect them to last long,

What about your use of ground?

Are you taking advantage of shallow depressions and/or the backs of hills?

The hull down command is a usefull tool,

So is the ground view ability, and LOS tool.

Ah, you were cresting, might have been too far forward, it happens. still a good tactic

In all fairness, the sherman is hard to kill. They realy were a well designed tank, with very good armor, and a reasonably effective gun.

In game of course the gun is made a tad more powerfull than it ought to be. But this can be dealt with by good tactics and use of ground.

Your Stugs are ambush weapons. they are not meant for slugging matches against tanks.

What kind of ground are you fighting on?

    Are you defending? or attacking?

  6. Realist,

we have snow,, and the restraunt I work in,, serves pretty good ribs, for being a chain place,

but for frigging amazing ribs, theres this place downtown,

Ribs, rings, and beer by the pitcher, They only have the ribs in summer.

but yeah,, a resturant that serves CM people,,, that would be funny as hell,

PS do you have poutine down there yet??

  7. yep,

    Jason baiting,

I grew up on countless WW2 propaganda novels, Most of them writen in the 1950s and 60s,

Usualy by americans who knew nothing whatsoever about the war.

These novels alowed profoundly ignorant people to parade their ultranationalist bigotry in printed form.

Many of these novels attempted to pass as history, And being 9 or 10 years old, I couldnt tell the difference.

Unfortunately such novels are still being poured out, and most people cant tell history from propaganda from entertainment these days.

  8. It seems to me that the only condition that makes a battle unwinnable is TIME.

With enough time I could take a broken platoon of green early partisans, Rally them, and beat a whole battalion of crack SS infantry.

In every battle against the AI, it has been time that has made the difference.

And in PBEM I have won against far better players, because there wasnt enough time for them finish me off. (I have also lost to a few less experienced players)

Every battle in the game disk is a winnable battle, no matter which side you take. Its just a matter of figuring out the right moves. If I cant figure out the right moves, this doesnt make me any less worthy, It just means that I PERSONALY cant figure it out just yet. It means that I missed something, and I need to go back and try again.

There are a few battles on the disk that seem profoundly stacked to favour one side, but I have won playing the other side. The AI can always be beaten. (and usualy quite easily)

For players used to C&C or Warcraft, the decidedly realistic human behaviour of units in CM may be a shock. GET USED TO IT. These are not mindless drones that march obediantly to their deaths. A CM squad is 6 to 12 rational human beings who all want to go home. They have names. They get tired, they get confused,,, and if ambushed on a road march, they will probably panic.
