  1. hmm thats well writen and quite informative. Taking the role of Devils Advocate I would say however that the enemy MG does have a very restricted LOS. The two buildings and the hedge do provide some cover to the attacking infantry. So strictly speaking they are not attacking over open ground for a great distance. I would like to see you do it withought the two houses and the hedge against maybe two MG42 just to be difficult.
  2. "Case 4 it is a regular German MG42, the best HMG there is." Jason C finally caves in and admits that to quote myself "that the German Army has some very effective long range weapons." I WIN *tries not to gloat too much* Nice arguement JasonC but you finally defeated yourself!!!
  3. I think I should also mention it was me delivery the "chewing up" rather than receiving it.
  4. Yes but my point is that the "German Weapons are more effective at range". Which means that they can hit you with more accuracy and effectiveness at range than comparible allied weapons. It is not accurate to say all MG's are the same, a bren gun for example is in no way comparible to the MG42 in terms of rate of fire and range.
  5. I said it is virtually suicidal and in some cases it is. I have played a scenario with one Tiger Tank some MG42 and standard German Infantry and they chewed up a Russian advance before the Russians got anywhere near them. My point being that some of the German weapons are much more effective at range than comparible allied weapons. The MG 34 and 42 were regarded as the best MG's of the War.
  6. A point about calling up Air Support - In WW2 most aircraft where not capable of all weather flight so where usually not present on the battlefield at such times. Some examples being the Polish Gliders not being able to arrive at arnhem. Also the Battle of the Bulge where the German Army used fog to obscure their advance and prevent air attack. Once the weather cleared the allies fighter bombers arrived and caused significant losses on the German forces.
  7. Jason C I think you missed the point of my last post ...being that the German Army has some very effective long range weapons.
  8. I think it is worth pointing out that in this game and in WW2 the German Army had some very effective long range weapons. Something like a Tiger tank or a MG 42 with a good line of site can suppress and destroy infantry units or light tanks from a very long distance. Infantry units advancing across open ground against such weapons is often virtually suidal.
  9. There are some scenarios with one or two tanks and a load of infantry
  10. yes this is a tricky problem in the game. The only real solution I think is to try and distract the opposing enemy force. The most effective way of doing that imo is to pound them with artillery, MG fire or maybe tank fire. Then hope that your infantry can get across the open area before your enemy recovers.
  11. have a look at the multiplayer games topic in Afrika Korp section.
  12. I tried playing withought sound to see what difference it made and to be honest it didn't make a lot of difference but I think it very much depends on how you play the game and what settings you use. I tend to play the game with the camera at a high elevation so I can see all of my troops, with unit bases on. Where I think no sound would be a serious problem is if you play the game with the camera very close in and your units are very spread out across the map. In this situation your troops could come under attack and you could easily be not aware of it. I found using the camera shake option helped a little. ( ie the screen shakes when an artillery barrage comes down or other larger weapons fire) I also found that I had to pay a lot more attention as enemy units would pop up with less warning than if you can hear them coming.
  13. I generally don't use aircraft support because you have no control over it and it often doesn't help that much when the plane wanders over the map randomly shooting up targets which may not be that important.
