  1. I use this "feature" all the time. On extreme fog of war settings it allows me to determine which one of the infantry? ID's is actually that nasty MG42 or AT Rifle and pour HE on it before it ruins my troops day. Otherwise all the infatry? sound ID's look the same until you actually accurately ID them.
  2. Give automatic purchase a try in Quick Battle mode. It requires something akin to a leap of faith and you do sometimes end up with a few very lopsided games. However, these are surprisingly rare and the AI does a decent job of keeping the balance. It depends on your settings what you end up with and we have found that the most balanced is Unrestricted Force Mix. It is fun and liberating to "make due" with the forces the Ai has given you. takes the stress out of the fact that you are losing if you are not responsible for the troops you were allocated. We generally agree that the loser from the previous battle gets to declare a "redo" one time if he deems the setup to be unfavorable, but he has to stick to the second setup!
  3. can you please clarify this? Do you mean that the Russians and the Germans both react as if they are much better than they are? What if you model this by making the Soviet player take green troops while the Germans take Regular. Would this make up the difference?
  4. A buddy of mine and I have been playing CMAK since it came out (with ocasional breaks to resurface and check whats going on in the real world...) We both own CMBB and played it a little a year or so ago. The other day I proposed going back to CMBB for the next battle and my opponant objected saying we would have to "relearn the mechanics of a different game" all over again. Is there a significant difference between the two versions as far as game play goes? I did a search on this forum to see if anything had been previously posted but turned up nil.
  5. Just finished another ten turns in our QB. Of the 8 Vickers MMG's that were at the front and firing consitently, I witness 4 JAM's and one jammed a second time, only firing for 4 out of the ten turns. If the Vickers really was so reliable, then I have a bunch on novice gunners in my troops who apparently are uneducated in their service record.
  6. As the British the Vickers MMG seems to jam consistently in the worst heat of battle, usually for several turns. In the current QB, 3 Vickers were rushed forward, deployed 30-40 meters from the crest of a hill and when the enemy approached they fired no more than a few shots each and all three are jammed. Terrible conicidence I thought, but then I look at the other flank and one of my MMg's there is also jammed. This is not the first time I have noticed this pattern as the British. Playing the Germans it seemed like I had many fewer jams. I searched the manual for "jams" and the Forum for it too and only found out that it not only stands for malfunctions but for barrel changing and such. Is it common for the Vickers MMG to "jam" a lot? Are there certain models that are better or worse than others. Speaking game terms only here, not historically.
  7. I design the maps and set up the OP perameters for the games the hobbitlord and I play. This one is a static OP with Germans (GE) as the attacker and Soviets (SO) as defender. Attacker Casualty Point Factor set to 100%. I make the map and pick my troops then send the file to him and he picks his units. (we have gentleman's agreement not to look at each others units) We allocated 2000 points for "on map" battle 1 and then roughly split up 8000 points between Battalion, Regimental and Division reinforcements. For example, I have 2000 points "on-map" , 2000 points for Battalion Reinforcement 1, 1500 points for Battalion Reinforcement 2, 1500 points for Regimental and 3000 points for Divisional reserves. The manual says that these types of reinforcements appear depending on the losses suffered, so we figured instead of having a predicatable amount of points show up each battle per the standard system, we would use this type of reinforcement system to provide some uncertainty and unpredictability to the process. That way if one side gets a real bad beating, they will get reinforcements while the player who suffered little will get less or perhaps no reinforcements However, as Hobbitlord pointed out, I (SO) got the beating but only got my second Battalion level reinforcements. As GE, Hobbitlord got both his Battalion and Regimental reinforcements. Since he suffered fewer losses we would expect the situation to be the other way around if anything. One possible reason is that after battle #2 we both got a reinforcement from the battalion level and then we both chose to skip the night (3rd) battle. It was the 4th battle in which his other set of Regimental reinforcemnts arrived and mine did not....even though not a shot was fired in the 3rd (night) battle. We are still playing the battle, for the interest of seeing how things go.
