high velocity and low velocity guns
JoMac replied to malfuriouspete's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
WW2Steel, Basically you are right. There is no need to worry about that info as barrels would be simply replaced or changede out when the time arises. Among others, one important thing to remember is to simply try and put out as many, and or better tanks then the enemy, and hopefully it will help turn the tide in war. -
high velocity and low velocity guns
JoMac replied to malfuriouspete's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
All above points are good. Also consider that the lower velocity 75 gun shells are a little smaller then the Higher velocity 75 shells, as there is less propellant needed. This gives a slightly higher rate of fire, and barrel life. The firer can see the lower velocity shells better, and thus make the appropriate corrections. Lower velocity shells may only need a near miss to damage or KO soft targets. This is because they tend to explode on the surface, where as the higher velocity will dig in the ground before going off. -
How do mount infantry on a transport?
JoMac replied to drjake's topic in Combat Mission: Afrika Korps
Jake, Like Malaspina mentioned; check your vehicles passenger capability, some have non passenger capabilities, while others may carry a full squad, or only a half-squad like the Universal Carrier. Joe -
Not Another AAR?! Tux Vs. Myglas
JoMac replied to Tux's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
Tux, Sent you a PM. -
Ok, using the search feature, I have finally located my answer. There are no gun elevation limitations in CM, but hopefully in CMx2 this will be looked at more closely.

Hello fello CM gamers, Are there any limitations to guns rising or depressing in CM ( have always noticed over time, but never asked till now ). Just seems any vehicle can find a hull down position on a ridge and still fire without worry of being too close to the enemy.

He is probably talking about what casualties the computer gave him during setup. -

Paul, Just by CMAK ( CMBO replacement for the most part ), and many of those known problems will become a thing of the past. Joe -

TO/E in print or available outside of game client?
JoMac replied to chrome_gnome's topic in Combat Mission: Beyond Overlord
I am not aware of any txt files or spreadsheets for those games. However, you can choose Quick Battles and go pick each month of a year from a country to get a Platoon thru Battalion TO&E. Ofcourse, it is also possible someone from the CM community has taken the time to make up a txt or spreadsheet, and will hopefully chime in. Joe -
Attacking Bunkers and Pillboxes
JoMac replied to malfuriouspete's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
However, as far as I am concered, a flanked pillbox at close-assault range for a few minutes is a dead one. Then again, this is CM we are talking about. -
Adam, PM sent. If still available I would be interested in either German or U.S. Battalion commander ( prefer German ) in this late stage, just let me know. Thanx Joe

Improvised 'Indirect' fire
JoMac replied to Aco4bn187inf's topic in Combat Mission - Tips and Tricks
Hello Aco, Hope you still remember me, think we played one or two CMBB or CMAK games awhile ago. Still interested in playing further PBEM games, using some House Rules ( Think you might have a version of it already ). Actually in the time frame of the game, I doubt you would have that kind of communition between the Inf and Armor ( especially Russian, vs. Western Allies ). Also, it simply would be a waste of HE Ammo load that would be better suited for direct area fire that you actually see some of its affects. However, you could always have an excuse and say that your JS2 is area firing some woods in front, because of suspected enemy units ( even thou your real intention is in hopes that some shells land further back and hit that house that you cant see ). Like Costard mentioned, that roles is better suited for field guns and mortars. Hope to hear back from you soon. Joe -
Banjar, welcome to the CM community, and feel free to continue posting anthing CM or WWII related. Awww yes, I still remember playing that demo scenario over and over again right before I purchased my CM bundle pack yrs ago. If you havent already done so, I suggest you read through the various threads and posts regarding both CM games. There you will find alot of interesting info about the game mechanics, Tips & Tricks, and alot of other WWII related subjects. * IMHO, believe the use of popping smoke in CM is alittle over-moddled. If interested in discussing, and play testing any of the CM titles ( except CMBO ) to help you understand the mechanics better just email or PM me. Thanx Joe

I would also like to include other vehicles besides the PZIVH when it comes to armor thickness in CM. Half the front armor of the ISU 122, 152, have not been calculated in CMs determination for armor thickness. CM only gives the front armor of both vehicles around 90 @ 30 degrees, but not the other half of the front armor which should be around 120 rounded. This would make hits on this thicker area deflect many of the German 88/56 or 75/70 rounds outside short range. Joe

Hello CM Community, I am involved in a CMBB 2 game Operation and would like to know the following: My Russian opponent has 2 MMGs immobile with last man in middle of a street. Will he be able to move it at beginning of next Scenario, or will it stand its ground. If he is able to move it anywhere next scenario then I have to find a way to finish him. Joe
