  1. I know @Artkin is using Conscripts, but for past several years I have only been using Green Moral (w/different Leadership & Motivation levels) as the baseline to better represent battlefield casualties, and the slower pace of combat.

If I'm representing Conscript or Green troops in RL, then I would make all troops Green with -1 Leader & -1 Motivation.

If Reg in RL, then I would make all troops Green with 0 Leader & 0 Motivation.

If Vet in RL, then I would make all troops Green with +1 Leader & +1 Motivation.

If troops are Crack in RL (Para, Ranger), then I would make all troops Green with +2 Leader & +2 Motivation.

    Anyways, something along those lines.

I have originally used Conscript Moral as baseline (with different Leadership & Moral), but they tend to be too fragile, especially the first sign of HE, or playing against Human Opponent.

So, and after several years of playtesting, came to the conclusion that using Green Moral (with appropriate Leader & Motivation levels) would be a better compromise, and still give you that slower pace of combat and overall lower casualties.

  2. Yes, it's been 50 years...

Ok, so for those who might remember a set of rules called TRACTICS HO Miniature Rules (Mike Reese & Leon Tucker) first released back in the early 70's...The Re-release contains the Classic Tractics, a Modified Tractics (modified from a wargaming group in 70's), and an Updated version (2020).

Check out this site for more info: https://www.combatrules.com/

Here's looking at you, @John Kettler

  3. It's actually interesting...I noticed that when having Armor in a Wooded/Forested Tile that AP rounds seem to be slightly diminished. I swear that my PZIVH was taking a half dozen penetrating hits to the Turret from a M5 Stuart at short range with no effect. However, in same situation but in open, 1-2 penetrating hits to turret would start to cause severe damage.

Now, in speaking of Trees...Yes, if Armor directly behind a Tree, unfortunately, it does detract incoming rounds all too often. On top of that the 'Tree Canopy effect' also detonates incoming rounds what seems to be about half the time.

So it seems, BF, gave increased Cover effects all across the board for Trees/Woods Tiles...

The thing of it is, the game doesn't know the target is on a range.

Are you a tanker in real life? If so and you think all tanks should routinely spot each other within a few seconds of moving into LOS in combat even at several km ranges I could ask BFC to reduce the spotting variance for tanks to near zero. That's such a radical change I kinda doubt they would do it after all these years but you never know. 😉

+Thrice...The Game doesn't know it's on a Firing Range (different parameters), compared to Combat conditions.

Please, and NOOOooo to telling BF to reduce the Spotting to near Zero 🤨...I think all the near averages work out good enough.

  5. Yes, you can open the file, move several units around, save it, and come back to it later (I've done this in the past a few times)....Just need to rename the PBEM Game File each time you do it (thou, I think the computer will automagically do it for you). Just make sure to delete the older and keep the later version each time so you wont get confused.

This is easy to reproduce by starting a PBEM Hotseat against yourself to see how it works.
