  1. I guess youre right, but my spotter had no LOS at all unless I pushed him to the front so he could see over barriers. Anyhow, it appears any artillery fire near the spotter cancels the strike. He was forced to take cover when an explosion landed nearby, and the strike I waited 2 turns for got cancelled immediately. Is that realistic? Surely a unit changing posture shouldnt rule out an airstrike! I challenge the designers of the game to defend the realism of that! If I give coordinates and then crouch down, why should anything change?
  2. Ok, thanks. My spotter is caught in an ambush and has ordered an artillery strike. He is currently being barraged by tank and infantry machine gun fire. The artiilery has one minute to go before it arrives. Im trying to decide if he should stay under fire, or flee. If he flees, it sounds like my attack will fail. If he stays put and the attack works, it will route the enemy from his position. Tough dilemma eh? Gollum
  3. How do I know if the salvo is already on route to the target? Like I said, I ordered the artillery strike and it gave me a waiting time of 2 minutes next to the ammo display. Does this mean the attack will be guaranteed for one turn at least? So does this mean a spotter can target something and then run away to avoid being killed, and the attack will work? Or does he have to remain in the same place?
  4. Ive ordered an off board artillery strike with my spotter team. the delay is 2 minutes after the order was issued. if my spotter is killed during this waiting time, is the strike cancelled, or is the accuracy just diminished? Also, if my spotter team issues a strike for a part of the board they cant see with their LOS, will it work better as a TARGET WIDE order, or does it matter if they use a normal TARGET order? Gollum
  5. Thanks, I read your tutorial, it is excellent. Im puzzled why you put your HQ unit on a tank, since tanks often have to remain at a distance from the front, and this would cut off command with other units. Also, your tanks are very likely to come under attack in that tutorial. I find using HQ very tricky, cause they need to stay with their troops and yet also must stay out of danger. I like your idea of putting heavy machine guns on tanks... by the way, I tried to load a MG on a halftrack recently and drive it through the grass but it froze. Do all vehicles require roads? Is there a way to know what surface you cant drive on? Thanks, Im done with my silly questions!
  6. Thanks for the advice? So is there a specific way to plant a demo charge, or do they just do it when they feel appropriate? Do sharpshooters fire at single targets like a sniper, or do they direct general fire into an area. Can they see beyond 400m? Are you saying none of the infantry have specific commands to allow you to use their equipment? Last question, what is the ideal place to put a spotter, on a hill?
  7. I think my major obstacle towards mastering CMBO is the total confusion I have about the strengths of various units, mainly infantry. I click on my infantry guys, they fall into so many categories... this isnt like chess where you know what a rook does or a bishop. I think there are hundreds of kinds of infantry, to name a few grenadier, rifle, squad, machine gun, demo, sharpshooter, actually the list is much more confusing then this because you have names like panziergrenadier, stuh42, pioneer squad, fallschingagen etc... Im not a WW II historian so I dont get it, because often and what makes it tough is they all basically just move and fire. So it is really hard to tell one unit from the next. In a Tom Clancy game, your demo has satchel charges, your sniper has a scope gun, etc... Here I dont get the sense of their equipment.. Im having a hard time getting a feel for the units. Is there an explanation somewhere? Gollum
  8. I will play you Hyperion... email me: barry@airmail.net
  9. I am very ill so I can only send about one or two moves per week... however, i will try fiercely to win and expect you to do same. Mail me if interested: barry@airmail.net
  10. So if tanks dont fire their main gun, does it automatically fire something designated as a secondary weapon? How do you select which weapon to use if there are multiple weapons? In a related question, i had an infantry unit pinned down right next to a German Panzer. How do I tell it to use grenades or demolition charges specifically? Selecting weapons doesnt seem to be an option with this game... Thanks, Gollum
  11. Oh also, every time I fired a tank, it asked me if I wanted to use the main gun. Is there any reason not to use the main gun? Also, is it possible for infantry to attack an enemy tank and win? How important is it for a HQ to stay with the platoon? Does the sneak command have any real value in a full scale battle? How can you sneak past entire platoons, is this like Splinter Cell, heheh! This game confuses me! Gollum
  12. I am new to CMBO. I played a scenario, A Walk In Paris just now... I know this is a serious war game, but I felt like it was easy to win it with a video game mentality. I sent my tanks down the road to clear the areas, and then the infantry would be sent in mass bulk down the road to run into buildings. I admit I lost all my tanks, but I couldnt see the subtle nature of the strategy... it was basically move and fire, and I won the scenario. Where do I pick up the finer points of strategy, when the orders menu is basically Move, Fire? Is there really a big difference between a sharpshooter, a bazooka, or rifle infantry? Can Sherman tanks do anything special Im not aware of, like flamethrowers? Or is the strategy simply in knowing what formations to use, and the timing of things? Gollum
