  3. Yes, sounds probable. One more thing: how to clear tank obstacles, like "spanish riders" (?) (metal pieces forged together to form a standing X sort of). Engineers wouldn´t blast them, the tank gun had no effect.

What you have pointed out is definitely things to consider, which I to some extent have done also - with the exception of the Geneva convention The situation I am referring to is a certain crossroad at the Ecoquenueville scenario in 'The Road To Montebourg' campaign. POSSIBLE SPOILER following..... I was trying to sneak up with a tank from the western road, pop out just enough of the tank and fire a smoke shell up the northern part of the road to block out the danger there. tried mainly these variants: - quick waypoint - target smoke from that waypoint (initially out of sight, but still eligible), pause 30 sec, then reverse - target arc, quick, target smoke from waypoint, no pause, reverse - target arc, quick, target smoke from waypoint, leave further decisions for TacAI It seems the problems might have arisen from either no line of sight initially (which is strange because shouldn´t it be possible to issue a general order of "fire smoke at the road when you arrive"?) Or nervousness because of the perilous spot? The damn tank had the main gun swung in the right direction, line of sight once in place, and still it just found it proper to niggle about it's position and then reverse. At another time I ordered a squad to pop smoke from a waypoint and then continue, which they didn´t do either. Don´t remember if I told them to pause for awhile before moving on, though. In case you wonder, I finally managed to solve the situation by having a platoon pop smoke further up ahead the road. That was an as sudden as welcome insight, I can tell you! Maybe this has been concluded well enough before, but for both good and bad, in CMBN (as opposed to CMX1) you seem to have both greater control over your units and a lot less so, with some frustration following. The irrational autonomy of the units surely puts you into a perhaps more realistic company commander's/battalion commander's position; you declare what you want to be done, but can only hope someone will be able to carry it out! On the other hand, one seem to forget how long time it took to hone the skills in CMX1 to never be able to blame the game for shortcomings...

Dodging the issue of the worth of documentaries and so forth, regarding accurate footage, I surveyed some of the episodes of this http://www.history.co.uk/shows/world-war-ii-lost-films/about.html Perhaps not so much for the overall presentation, but there seem to be a fair amount of interesting footage. On the subject of litterature, I would like to take the chance to point out this one http://www.amazon.com/Normandy-1944-Organization-Organizational-Effectiveness/dp/0921991568 As is the case with historical analysis in general, there is always the case of the author's interpretation, but I found this study worthwhile reading. Personally, I have not read a lot of the first wave of post war works on the Allied invasion of Normandy, but referring to the author himself, one of his intentions with the book was to bring a more faceted picture of the struggle where earlier litterature had seem to give a false impression of the german opposition, predominantly in numbers and organization. Most of this is probably known to the great number of you fellow combat missionaires, but I still recommend it. This also coincides with another topic about in the forums, where someone (was it LongLeftFlank?) was mulling over the seemingly appearant edge the germans seemed to benefit from in tactical combat, as the book encapsulates that topic in the main frame. The author is a scholar at the Swedish National Defence College.

  8. Have been playing a few scenarios now in this fantastic and immersive game! I have very few complaints about graphics or UI. However, would it be possible to do either of the following: - make the cover arcs less opaque? The yellowness is a little disturbing when double checking what is exactly in line of sight within or your set arc - or make it like in CMX1, where you could both judge your arc and line of sight at the same time? On a side note: now that vehicle hit texts has found its way back and I was happy about that, l I find that I prefer playing without because this game is so much more true to real life and atmoshperic compared to the older titles. The hit texts now actually detract from what the game presents in such a convincing way . IMHO, it just seems hit texts don´t quite fit this game as well as it did with CMX1. Funny how it can go. BUT- I am still glad they are an option
  9. Hmm, watched the video. Wouldn´t that possibly be due to the way shadows are implemented?
  10. Have no complaints about the UI, but are rather looking for some input from people here on how to put parts of it into good use. I just realized I never bother with the small tringles indicating all friendly forces in the top of the screen. I seem to refer to the floating icons insted, and so thinking about disguising those markers. But before doing that, does anyone have a take on the functionality of these? Do you use them? And for what purpose? For me they only tend indicate that there are forces in that direction, and when I click on one of them, the unit is selected - which could be good but; most often one is looking for a specific unit which is hard to spot through these markers. Have I missed something brilliant here?
  11. Yes, I have to have ricochets. Or I must die. Seriously, I forgot the shooting range, which comes back to me now. I was just so caught up in all this close quarter bocace fighting that it tricked into making wrong conclusions. Longing for some tense long range missions then.

Slightly off topic: I haven´t had the time to play the game extensively yet, perhaps 5 or 6 missions, but based on this, it seems every AP fired from a tank on another tank results in a penetration and KO. Man, I remember CMX1, the shells would sometimes be all over the place because of ricochets from failed penetrations. It was cool. But I guess it was not spot on realistic, or it would be the same in CMBN? Or do I just lack time with the game? cheers

  14. Exactly. Sorry for the low quality pics. I will see what I can come up with. But at least it seems then to not depend on my rig only. But for the sake of it: E6300 dual OC 1.8 > 2.5 3.5 Gb RAM Geforce 8800 GTS XP SP3 Game working flawlessly otherwise.

  16. Just noticed this for the first time when playing the second scenario in the Panzer Lehr campaign. Dark squares visible here there on the map. Is it night time lightning/shadows issue? Anyone else noticed?
  17. I am old WeGo:er, but I must say RT is...perhaps winning me over too. It is fluid in a way that I like. BUT - there is no replay of the catastrophes or cool moments!

  19. Hi fellas, I have modded the soldier portraits, but can´t find the image file for HQ's anywhere. Anyone knows something about this? The one/ones I am thinking of is for example the german HQ, where you can see tiny cartoonish figures in pants with red stripes. This image shows up in the weapons/vehicle detail panel if I remember correctly.
  20. I have to agree on that the game is outstanding. It gets better and better, once you familiarize yourself with it. I am thinking of all the opinions from folks around, small complaints, wishes and such. Although constructive I am sure, first of all I would like to let BFC know that they have done an incredible job with this. And yeah, the Airbornes. What a fight it was at Fauville in the tutorial campaign. What is gonna happen when Wehrmacht proper shows up at the table?!

  22. Line Of Defense is actually one of my all time favourites, used to play it many times-it was hard to get a god win. Good suggestion. In that case I vote for 'Death Of The Titans'. I think that was a CMBO misson that got a remake with CMAK too. Keep up the good work, I know its not that easy!
