  1. Schrullenhaft, thanks for your reply - I think I'm sorted now (see below). Wow! What can I say - massive thanks Redwolf. I was sure I had configured the router and firewall properly, but like a doughnut failed to realise that the CM program actually had to be 'listening' to get a positive response. Your IP teller is bang on in every respect - got my 'external' IP, the relevant PC's LAN IP and correctly told me what was going on with the relevant port. All I have to do now is wait for my regular opponent and I to finish work today and we can resume playing TCP again. Once again, many thanks. 2. I've used www.canyouseeme.org/ to check if port 7023 is open and it tells me 'connection refused'. Am I correct in thinking that this implies the port isn't open? According to the router, it is open and mapped to the correct PC (it's mapped to 192.168.xx.xx). Is there another reason why I might be getting this message?
  3. Sorry, forgot to mention the OS... it's Win XP SP2 (fully patched) and port 7023 is open both ways - at the routers forwarding table and the firewall of the relevant PC. When you mention supplying the IP of my router, I presume you mean getting my opponent to connect. I use whatsmyip.org to establish my IP address, as the IP of the PC running CM is an internal (192.168.xx.xx) address. Is there a way of checking (similar to ping or ipconfig perhaps) if I have the correct port is actually open both ways? Is there anything else I'm missing? Thanks for the reply.
  4. I have a home network with 4 PCs and 3 Macs on it, plus various printers and other network devices. The network runs through a Netgear FS116 fast ethernet switch (16 ports) into a Netgear Router for Internet access. I have opened the recommended ports using the router's port forwarding table as recommended by the CM manual and mapped the relevant PC's IP address to the open port. However, my opponents still can't connect to my machine when I supply the IP. Am I missing something? Has anyone else experienced similar problems? Can anyone help? Many thanks in advance...
  5. Check out this thread regarding the PSW 232 for more information about these vehicles operating in reverse...
  6. OK - I have a Radeon X300 Series, which connects via VGA. Is that enough information, or do I need to provide more?
  7. Thanks for the replies chaps. It's not the size that is the problem, it's the proportions of the screen. I've been trying to get it to 'postbox', but it just keeps scaling to the full width. I can't seem to find a setting that will allow me to centre the screen output instead of scaling. Any ideas as to where this might be?
  8. I recently purchased a 19" widescreen TFT monitor which runs at a screen res of 1440x900. My other 3d games (particularly Rome: Total War) look stunning, but the jewel in the crown, ie: the CM series, look rubbish - with badly anti-aliased text and graphics slightly out of focus. I've trashed the preferences and tried each of the available screen settings offered by each of the CM games, to no avail. It's almost like the available resolutions are too 'square'. Can anyone help me resolve this, or recommend a solution that doesn't involve me reverting to my old CRT monitor? Thanks in advance for any responses...

  11. No need to apologise, I know how frustrating it is to be on the wrong end of a slow turn rate. I'm almost firing on all cylinders again, so we should get our game finished - it'd be a shame to deny you the win
  12. Yeah, well you don't have to guess, his opponent is me. As I explained some time ago on this message board, at the start of this round of the tournament I had a serious accident that involved me almost blinding myself and breaking fingers on my right hand. This caused a dramatic slow down in my initial turn rate. Doing my best to return a turn a day now...
  13. Without doubt, one of my favourite bits of Kraut kit - whether being lugged across the battlefield or called in by a forward observer. However, in reality it was reckoned that the quickest one of these beauties could be assembled and ready for action was in about 3 minutes. Our lovely pixellated CM Germans can slap one together in around 30 seconds and be banging out the rounds straightaway. And only the other day, the dreaded Mr Yormsha pointed out to me that in CM this unit can be transported by a Kubelwagen. I immediately had visions of one of those 'how many students can you get in a Mini?' competitions - I mean 6 blokes and all that kit, not to mention the ammunition. In a Kubelwagen? That's some fast-moving German firepower readily available and my new QB line-ups look more like episodes of the Dukes of Hazzard. All I need now is a Mod to make the Kubel look like an orange Dodge Charger with a Confederate flag on the roof...
  14. Back in the saddle now chaps, but have not heard from my St Nazaire opponent (Jon L?) in well over a month. Other two games progressing nicely, if a little behind schedule due to me keep injuring myself...
  15. Being the happy owner of a lovely dual-processor, loads of GHz, super powerful G5, I can't wait to see CMx2 running at the speed of light on my Mac... So I guess that's a yes - "I'll buy that for a dollar" (™Robocop...)
  16. Cheers for the tip John - will definitely try and look some out.
  17. LOL - for another 10 points, I'd (un)happily break some more bones. Good call... LOL
  18. OK, due to popular demand, here's the story... The wife and I had bought an antique wing back chair which we planned to put upstairs in our master bedroom. Our house is a grade II listed 16th century thatched cottage - which consequently has two narrow staircases and some narrower than usual doorways. Well, you can guess the next bit. The chair proved to be too big to get upstairs via one of the staircases and via the other, we had to take a couple of doors off to get it to the first landing. I then determined that by removing the castors from the legs of the chair we would have an outside chance of getting it through the remaining two doorways (sans doors by this stage...). So, I'm on my knees at the top of the stairs unscrewing the castors from the legs. This proved to be no easy task, due to the age of the screws etc. I had my full weight behind the screwdriver (which, incidentally, I had just sharpened to fit into the screw slots) and was turning it, when it slipped out of the slot, hit the frame and bounced back straight into my left eye. As I fell backwards, I instinctively put my right hand out to stop myself falling backwards down the stairs and in doing so, broke the index and middle fingers on my right hand. So it was off to casualty with my eye pouring blood and my fingers twisted into angles they were never designed to reach. After examination, I was told the screwdriver had punctured throught the cornea, then 'skidded' upwards across the iris before ending up tearing the through the white of the eye directly above the iris. Trust me, it doesn't look very pretty. The eye doctor told me that the eye had been cut or torn in six or seven places and consequently couldn't be stitched. However the good news is that he thinks the sight will return as the eye begins to heal - and true to his prediction this morning I began to see cloudy shapes which have gradually become a little more distinct as the day as gone on. The real bummer is that I can't use a mouse for anything more than about 15mins or so at a stretch. And it's a little sore if I look at a monitor for too long. But I should heal OK (I'm a quick healer generally, which is just as well...) and should be back to my usual losing ways asap. Every cloud has a silver lining however, and consequently I've learnt one valuable lesson from this unhappy episode which I'd like to share: In my next QB, I shan't be buying any German 150mm IGs. I'll be spending the points on a company of engineers armed with freshly sharpened screwdrivers...
  19. To all my opponents: I had an accident that involved me sticking a screwdriver in my left eye and breaking two fingers on my right (mouse) hand (don't ask how - it's a long story, but it f**king hurts...) - so turns may be a little slow over the next week or two while I recuperate. Will endeavour to crank things out as quickly as poss.
  20. Noooooooooooooo! You're the winner Dawg....simple as that. Do NOT withdraw! </font>
  21. You missed my score of 1.86 in G10. I still haven't worked out why my pre-AAR score put me in pole position for our section, I had some tough games vs some really good opponents and thought I'd screwed my chances of progressing a long time ago. Just goes to show that no matter how badly you're doing in this game, someone, somewhere just might be doing a little worse... A big thanks to the guys in my group for some cracking games - AARs will be completed tonight.
  22. Whilst I'm not arguing anything, I can say that I have had many vaginas and I can thoroughly recommend them.
  23. LOL - It's Mr Panzertwat to you LOL Thanks for the comments. Will try and produce some AK versions as per Junk's request...
  24. Nice piece of work, thanks for all the effort you put in bringing it all together. Just in case anyone's interested, I'm offering an alternative NW Europe map: Just Control-Click (Download to Disk) it for all you lovely Mac boys out there, whilst a Right-Click (Save Picture As) should do for everyone else.
