  1. Only if people take the time to actually read it. :D

Now that Martyr, err, I mean the manual, has laid out the unit attributes in plain and simple English, I have some questions regarding the Experience and Morale:

Are the two completely separate now? In CMx1 a crack unit by default had better morale. Is that still the case? In CMx2, does a Crack squad with -2 morale equate to a Veteran unit with normal moral(as far as morale is concerned)?

Experience and morale are now decoupled. You can have elite squads (in terms of fighting ability) with poor motivation and morale. -2 is just a modifier from a base value (which is not linked to experience).

  2. Im surprised noone has mentioned that in CMAK the typical engagement ranges were a lot higher than in CMBN. That may account quite a bit for tank accuracy.

Everyone can complain all they want. its ridiculous. Everyone wants to complain because tanks are made slightly more accurate on the move - but you guys have NOOO problem going back to abstracted firepower ratings and abstracted individual soldiers as well in Cmx1.

Good luck. The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence

Erhm, complaining when done right can only make the game better or at least highlight the limitations of the game. The problem right now is that no-one has any objective data to back up their states. All we have now is anecdotes on whether something is broken or not. It takes a lot of patience to isolate the cause of the problems or to show that something is just a fluke. There are many many factors that can be overlooked. Also there is no evidence of what is realistic. Even if someone can show that moving tanks in CMBN hit x% of the time, no-one can tell what it should be in reality.

What I do is just play the game and enjoy it for what it is.

  3. Ryujin is right I think. The numbers are modifiers. Units with +1 will see a slower degradation of morale in this case, where as units with -1 will lose morale faster. Nervous is the current state they're in.

I've seen conscript -2 guys go straight to nervous if they fall out of C2 for example.

  4. My understanding is that a tank or anything else can't be "spotted" by sound unless it has already been "spotted" visually so even if the unspotted tank is 5 feet away from an isolated gun crew and approaching from the rear it is silent unless a member of the crew turns around and sees it and then they can hear it. Am I correct?:eek:

What's the use of putting sound contacts in if you need to visually spot it first? As I understand it sound contacts are in. Spotting is determined by a lot of factors, so it might be a glitch, the crew might have a hide order, or they might be suppressed. It's hard to say :).

  5. Yet in the game I've had a 'schreck team fail to see a Sherman a few feet away from them on the other side of the bocage and I have managed to get a Sherman to sneak up on an AT gun's flank and not be spotted until it fired from about 8' away.

Multiple observers who couldn't see or hear 30 tons of noisy tank at point blank range? You'd have thought they could smell it at that range...

Yet you'd also have thought that an infantry man who doesn't want to be seen by a buttoned up tank would normally have a fairly easy job of doing so. Isn't that why armour was so vulnerable in closed and urban environments unless they had close infantry support? Seem to have a vague recollection of reading about phones being fitted to the back of tanks in Vietnam so that the infantry could tell the tanks exactly where to shoot. In CMBN they seem to fair far too well in these environments even without support.

Anyway, I suppose I'm just saying that tanks should be easier to spot AND should find it harder to spot infantry when buttoned. Definitely something for a future patch.

Just a question, were the infantry suppressed or have lowered morale?

  6. I believe Steve answered this already. Going backwards into the darkness isnt going to happen. I play CMSF almost everyday and cant wait to start work on CMSF2. I think the plan is to make the improvements in what we got with BN along with many improvements you guys would like to see. Its easier to do that now that BIJ2 is in the mix. Just we all have to be patient.

Is BIJ2 some sort of game?

  7. CMBN uses a literal representation of the terrain. So if you see a tree. There is 1 tree. If you see many trees, it is a forest. The spotting chances and cover are determined by intersecting bullet paths with polygons. The actual calculations and values that are used are kept away from the player. So basically what you see is what you get. It takes some getting used to and there is more uncertainty that in CMx1, that's for sure :D.

  8. I have a save-game right before he shoots again, but I don't know how to provide it since it's nearly 10MB. He's firing at a friendly vehicle. He wasn't the first to do this. At this point, I had seen it already from a few other soldiers/squads in different places, and at different units.

There are several free (but probably with lots of ads if you don't use adblocker) sites where you can upload files, such as mediafire.

  9. Hi there,

I was thinking of picking this title up after playing stuff like Total War, Men of War and Company of Heroes. I enjoyed the CMBN demo But I have a few questions that I couldn't find answers to by a trawl through the forums...sorry if I am repeating stuff.

    Anyway, here are my questions:

Where are there seeimgly no mainstream reviews for this game? (I couldn't find any yet anyway)

Why is this title a bit more in cost than most others?

Why isn't it in the shops? Is it mail order only?

Will any future expansions be installable in the current CMBN game?

I am basically looking for a strategy game with plenty of depth and replayability but doesn't depend on my clicking as fast as I can.

    Does CMBN fit that bill?

Also I don't have a great deal of time to play - does it lend itself to half-hours sessions here and there?

The map/mission editor sounds interesting - is it easy to produce basic scenarios easily enough or am I going to need weeks of study to understand/use it?

Can you play it online easily in multiplayer - I mean in real time, not PBEM?

A lot of questions there...thanks in advance for any replies.

I'd also appreciate any examples of your experience that really set this game aside!

    Thanks all,

    Mo.

You can download the game or get a physical copy from the website.

The game has a limited TCP/IP, you can only play in real time (so no WEGO) and you cannot pause the game. There is also no in-game lobby.

I believe there will be expansion pack adding content and units to span up to and including Operation Market Garden.

The demo give a pretty god idea of the gameplay you can expect.

  10. I am also pretty sure it's the M4A1.

Not sure about this. I think you may have to enter the vehicle, but you should be able to determine this pretty quickly with a ~5 min test.

Pretty sure this doesn't happen, but I'm not 100% positive.

No. No non-explosive weapon EVER causes FF.

I think. ;) According to stikkypixie I'm wrong, which is a possibility. Then again, I've never hit my own troops with .50 shots.

I've never seen it happen and I'm pretty sure it's not supposed to happen. :D

I will test it when I get home, but I'm pretty sure I've even suffered casualties from ricochets of .50 cal let alone a full hit!
