  1. Great idea. I'm totally in favor of it. I know several guys in KG that would buy this.
  2. I tried what you suggested; turning off antialiasing, etc. Also, after a week of research on 2 different driver forums (Nvidias & Tweaks), I decided the 158.45 was the safe upgrade to move to from my 158.16. Bottom line: no dice. Game loads great, but as soon as you move the mouse, the picture fragments. I registered at Nvidia's forums a few days ago & described my troubles. 35 views so far & no response yet. Hopefully Vista's SP will save the day. Until then I guess I'll have to install CM on my Wife's laptop,...sigh. I'll report here if I hear anything new.
  3. @kgsan Hi, I posted on the same trouble as you in another thread but no one responded- I have the same card (256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GTS)& 32mbVista. I am no expert but I think it's a driver issue. My version is 158.16 - what is yours? I've heard the closer you get to the latest driver version, you're increasing your chances for problems. If you find a driver that works, please let me know & I will do the same. I'm currently searching for online info on what the latest "stable" driver is. Thanks. 4. @ Renaldo We have the same card (256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GTS)& 32mbVista- any luck finding the correct driver? I've got version 158.16 Any new information would be of help. Anyone. Thank you.
  5. Hello, CMBB trouble- I'm a novice at working out these sort of problems. Would appreciate any help you could give. Just got new pc: Vista 32bit Intel Core 2 Duo Processor 256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GTS CMBB loads fine. In game, when I move the mouse, the background graphics start cascading all over the place. Is there a particular driver I need or setting I should be at? Thank you very much.
  6. I don't post here that often, but Jeff's work is well known & respected in our war gaming club. It's ironic that just last week, a few of us were chatting online about how much fun we had multiplaying his Ponyri Express scenario a couple years ago- a classic if there ever was one. My thoughts & prayers go out to Jeff, his Wife & family.
  7. I would like to play Bagration, and any of the early camps, like Moscow 41', etc,..
  8. These maps look very well done. Ponyri & now this! Busy busy! Looking forward to playing them all. Much appreciated.
  9. I would very much like to see these scenarios. Could I have the zip as well, please? I am interested in ponyri very much. Can't wait to see your work Jason!
  10. Some people in this thread have asked the question and I don't think it's been answered yet. Could you tell us- if we have an East Front title game for example, with say 3 subsequent modules for the Eastern Front title, can we compile all the different units from each module for that title? I realize we won't be mixing a Napoleonic title with WW1 modules, etc,.. My apologies if this has already been covered somewhere else. Thank you
  11. At Kampfgruppe we have been routinely playing multiplayer games with as many as 4 vs 4 via PBEM. A team member plots his orders then passes the saved game file to the next person on his team until everyone has plotted, then the file is executed and sent to the other team. We have 2 different rule sets our membership have created, covering cummunication, logistics, etc,.. In a campaign we are currently playing (designed by KG_Thorshammer), the element of role playing is incredible. It takes on a life of it's own. This same campaign has been going on for over a year now, spanning several maps. We troop import to simulate reserves, leaving the battle for resupply, etc,.. We use Nafziger's series of German OOB books and Sharps Russian OOB volumes, plus other books covering a particular battle and it ends up being quite impressive. Not perfect, but damn close. I've managed to recreate the opening Russian attack at Kapitanovka which took place during the Korsun Pocket. That operation over the course of 6 battles involved approx 5 regiments of infantry and support. These long campaigns/operations have rarely been smaller than regimental sized and we've experienced no problems forcing the game to run at this level. Small battles are cool too. To each his own. I just think everyone would like the option of playing at least the same size engagements as we can now, regardless of what size preference you have.
  12. Originally posted by Canuck Now shifting focus for a minute onto how many people actually play PBEM vs AI - I would say that is quite a low estimate. 20%? I honestly find that hard to believe. My experience with online CM communities points heavily in favor of PBEM. Not including my small war gaming club, off the top of my head I can name StrategyZoneOnline, Rugged Defense Club, FGM, Band of Brothers (sorry if I'm missing a site)- all of which run either ladders or at least tournaments that are focused on playing PBEM. Combined, your talking about hundreds of war gamers. Maybe I'm wrong, but I fail to see any of these sites, which are the most prominent in the online world of CM, focusing on AI play. And while it can be argued that "hundreds" of people represent only a fraction of total sales, these are the "hardcore" fans of the game that have gone so far as to create and/or belong to these communities. In fairness to the issue, I'd like to see a poll on these numbers or some evidence to support this "supposed" AI majority. Respectfully, KG_Cloghaun
  13. Howdy guys! Change- 1. Campaign Mode 2. Ability to design our own Campaigns 3. True Multiplayer system 4. Troop importing from previous battles. 5. More depth/options to the battle editor Don't change- 1. PBEM 2. Ability to design our own maps 3. The WEGO system
  14. My club website, Kampfgruppe -Combat Mission OKH is now up and running again with DL capability. The Op is also avaliable @ the Scenario Depot. Thank you,
  15. Send me or anyone else your email addy to cloghaun@yahoo.com and I will email you the scenario until my site troubles are resolved. Thank you,
  16. Thank you Aragorn. Much appreciated. I'm having troubles with my site. You can get it here also- http://www.dragonlair.net/combatmission/index.htm
  17. Well, it's not as though I'm fielding tactical nukes,
  18. The Battle of Kapitanovka Over a year in the making,.. There are many different battles that could be covered during the Korsun Pocket. Obviously one that stands out would be Manstien's III Panzerkorps attempt to free the pocket. After reading Hell's gate then going back to it again and again, one battle kept sticking out in mind- the first one. While other clashes were taking place along the Axis MLR at the same time, the town of Kapitanovka was a major road hub into the pocket that was critical for the Russians capturing. Several kilometers in front of the town was a weary defensive line held by the 389th Infantry Division. Ordered to hold their positions, by the end of the first day of battle, their regiments virtually ceased to exist, save for rag tag formations that found their way back to safer ground. Their sacrifice made it possible for the arrival of the 108th Pnzr. Gren. Rgt. to arrive at Kapitanovka. The 108th in turn held out for the arrival of the 14th Panzer Division, which was ordered along with other divisions to counter attack from the south. Holding the town also made it possible for other formations to use it's road hub to shift men and material. In the end, the 108th was forced to retreat from Kapitanovka where it roamed the pocket, sometimes cut off from all other German forces, supporting itself by any means possible. Eventually it along with the remains of the 389th ID found it's way out of the pocket. This operation tries it's best to cover the first 3 hours of initial contact between the Russians and the German defenders of Kapitanovka. Each side has a battle briefing which contains a rule set. The rules are easy to understand and essential in keeping the scenario historically accurate. The rules also force the player to adhere to the realism of a non-stop 1st day attack. Great care was taken in representing every single German and Russian formation as it should've been during this battle. I've referenced many sources, including- Hell’s Gate, by Douglas E. Nash The German Order of Battle: Infantry in WW2 The German Order of Battle: Panzers and Artillery in WW2 The German Order of Battle: Waffen SS and Other Units in WW2, by George F. Nafziger The Soviet Order of Battle: 12 Volume Set, by C. Sharp The map is to scale and historically accurate. (I think, lol). Thank you to KG_Panzerschreck for his excellent work in creating the forested areas of the map. Thank you to KG_Swampfox for his many hours of discussion about the historical aspects of Korsun and months of play testing. Available here- www.kampfgruppe-cm.com/ or www.dragonlair.net
  19. Looking for recommendations for winter mod CMBB packages that cover all vehicles and infantry for late 43 into 44 for both sides. Also any winter terrain mod recommendations. Thanks- KG_Cloghaun
  20. Can anyone recommend some good mods for Soviet and German Winter Uniforms for the whole war? Thankyou. KG_Cloghaun
  21. The Russian "Dnieper" positions in the Ukraine were spending the last weeks of 1943 gearing up for the "Korsun-Schevchenkovsky" Operation, which created the Korsun Pocket. Here is some background as I am preparing an operation to cover one of the key opening battles of this operation. Basically the Russians had pushed past the Dnieper in many areas along it's length by the end of 43'. The Germans still held certain positions on it, but the idea of actually "holding the Dnieper line", was at this point unrealistic. By January, 1944, a huge salient(Kanev) had formed in the south, just west of the Dnieper. AGS was in danger from Hitler's no retreat policy. Hitler wanted Manstein hold this salient as a possible springboard from which to launch a future offensive to retake Kiev and restore the Dnieper line. 2 German Armies, the 1st Panzer Army and the 8th Army both had a corps each, defending this salient. General's Lieb and Stemmermann were the ranking officers in this area. Between the 2 of them they controlled 4 infantry divisions, 3 division groups(remnants of former divisions formed into overstrength battalions) and the 5th SS Wiking panzer division, with the SS Pz.Gr.Brig. "Wallonie". From both the East and west of the salient attacked 2 Soviet Fronts, 1st Ukrainian and 2nd Ukrainian, commanded by General Vatutin and Marshall Konev respectively. The attack, though extremely difficult to achieve, worked. Over 60,000 Germans were trapped. Many battles were fought over the course of 4 weeks in sub-zero temperatures. Fighting to break out or fighting to rescue those trapped, some of the greatest names in the German armed forces were there, 1st SS-Panzer Division Leibstandarte, Willy Hien, Dr. Franz Bake, the 305th Pz Abt., Erich Hartmann, Hans Ulrich Rudel. The list goes on. In the end, through extreme effort, roughly 40,000 escaped the Korsun Pocket. Some by having to swim the Gniloy river, in some places 25 ft wide and over 6 ft deep. Many had travelled miles before succumbing to the icy waters of the Gniloy. I plan to cover part of the initial Russian breakthrough in this operation in and around the town of Kapitanovka, a road hub that connects to Zvenigorodka, which is the main objective of both Soviet Fronts, attacking toward each other to link up in this town and thus create the Korsun Pocket. The 1st line of resistance for the Germans will include elements of the 389th Infantry Division, followed by the defense of the town proper, by the 108th PzGr.Rgt., reinforced later by the the remnants of Oberst Willy Langkeit's Pz.Rgt.36. The attacking Russian force will be comprised mainly of elements of the 53rd Army and the 155th Tank Brigade/29th Tank Corps/5th GDS Tank Army. It is my goal to finish this operation by May/June. Good luck to you in your project.
  22. Thanks Hans, I'll consider that, although I don't know yet.
  23. Well that sucks! I don't understand why you can't have VL's AND a rolling BW. The ability to just skirt the town I want as an objective totally undermines the point of my operation. I guess I'll have to make it a static op,...sigh.
  24. In the historical operation I am making, I want a rolling BW, so obviously I have 2 choices, Assault or Advance. I want the rolling BW because the map is over 5km long and given the terrain, it wouldn't be realistic for the attacker to see that far ahead. I also have "linked to map" defending forces that I want kept in place as they were historically. Toward the end of the map, there is a town that I want as the objective of the attacker. The map is just over 2km wide and the town is about 1200m wide. So it would be relatively easy for the attacker to skirt the town.In the manual it says an Advance/Assault op will end when the attacker reaches the end of the map. Is this written in stone? I mean, what if the defender toward the end of the map(in the town) is doing well and has significant forces left? That's not taken into account? So the BW finally rolls it's last time to reveal the last part of the map and say a single solitary attacking unit reaches the end of the map, regardless of how well the defender is doing, the game ends? Thankyou
