  1. oh, my such cynicism, such bitterness, I make a positive statement and someone tries to hand my ass back to me. I agree that a lot of people are here because of "safety" but gee golly willakers, it's our hobby, it's supposed to be safe. It's a haven of people with a common interest. Why are you here? You see this software as a pastime, well so do we all,(except of course, the people who work for battlefront). It is a fine game that allows those who chose to the oppertunity to replay some small scale battles of the war. That's the appeal. There are of cousre those who see it as a sophisticated shooter, well, more power to them, it fills that role as well. Dime a dozen....Whaaaaaa!!!??!??? Hands up people who, before the internet, could find a dozen people in thier immediate area to play? I didn't think so... "Appear to know" , hah! Do know... I have been an amateur historian since I was a lad, and I can tell you that, there is a lot more than the appearence of knowledge here. Please, friend, don't try and hand my ass back to me, you can't carry the weight
  2. Meanwhile, Back on the subject, I think that the theory that the nature of the game reflecting the nature of the forums has some merit. With CM geing a slower, more calculating game of patience, it appeals to the kind of folk who will (at least most of the time) THINK about a post before submitting it. The level of knowledge, trivia, arcana and out right BS displayed at this sight is truly...what's the word, oh yeah, staggering. I suspect that people will generally post an answer if they really feel they have an answer. For this, I am impressed. Too often when you ask a question at other forums, you get your ass handed back to you. Not here, no sir. As a final note, I think that one of the things that makes this site so nice....Canadians!!!!
  3. Agreed, I was playing WW2 Online for a while. It is set during the fall of France. It was a hoot to play. nothing like being out in a pzII and seeing a 'tildy come rumbling around a corner. Let me tell you, my pzII did NOT have enough reverse gears It was a time when tactics were king
  4. The new Tobruk is a game system that takes the original and improves it. It is, IMO, an attempt (and a good one) to give ASL a run for thier money. I have tried it out and yes, it is an improvement to the old Tobruk, ESPECIALLY in regards to the movement factors, they have ramped up the factors to more reasonable numbers. I took a squad of Stuarts out for a run and I was just givin' her. They now feel like greyhounds. The Game is well worth a look. Though, if you already play ASL, you are getting the same thing ,only more refined. BTW, greetings to Mr Dunnigan, I am pleasantly suprised to see you here. It's a bit like having the Stones play your private BBQ

  6. It was the second war game I learned to play, right after Afrika Korp (AH). To say I loved it is a huge understatement. Almost thirty years later, I still play it. I agree with you whole heartedly
  7. I am adding this post here because this is where everyone seems to be now Are there plans to include early WW2 Europe in the next incarnation of CM. I am referring to The blitz period of the war, you know France 1940, Norway, Poland etc? I loved CM:BO, but wished that early years had been covered as well.
  8. jasonc said "Real tactical combat is excruciating, not fun. Nothing works. Everything is friction. Nobody can coordinate the simplest things with each other with any reliability. Half the men engaged haven't the slightest idea what is happening, and many of them have no effect on the outcome other than as victims." Then I am doing real tactical combat
  9. As there are no WWI games out there that I am aware of, YES!!! While on this subject... how about Korea, Viet Nam, Arab Isreali, etc?
  10. I have also just recieved my Strategy guide and I am pleased with it for the most part. I share Panzer5's complaint about typos & bad data. I am not as angry as he is, after all proofreaders are humans too, stuff happens. I am concerned about it though. Hopefully, I will besent a third edition when it comes out. My main beef is with the example pictures. They are just too small. Can these pictures be posted somewhere so I can figure them out??
  11. If it were me, I would want all effort to be made to recrew a valuable weapon. I think a way can be found to handle this without being gamey. In any event, if my opponent chose to abandon a gun when I fire at them and go back to it when I am done, I don't know if I would refuse him the right to do so. Any gun not shooting back at me, is fine
  12. Hi, just pulled my CMBB out of the package. Now who's a happy soldier. I just want to know if the Madman Mods work in CMBB as well as they do for CMBO, are there any I should ignore? Thanks
  13. I am proud to spend my hard earned dollars on such a fine product. I understand that by buying my stuff from the retailer, I am supporting newer and better versions of the game. To the bootleggers out there, die, die DIE!!!!
  14. Yes, Of course... I would have got that given enough... nah, I wouldn't have, who am I trying to fool? Thanks heaps
  15. question 2 should read "what the heck does TRP stand for?"
  16. 1) Can anyone point me to Frankos True Rules for CMBO? I found them once, lost em 2) What the heck does sticks does TRP stand for? Thanks for enlightening this former winner of the Red Foreman Dumbass of the Day award
  17. I actually have been playing CMBO for months. Just seems time to upgrade
  18. I am going to get CMBB, that's definite. What I want is honest opinions on whether the SG is worth getting. Thanks
  19. I have tested the game and it works now. It would seem that the "latest" driver from nvidia has an issue with CMBO... Oh well Thanks for the help
  20. It is CMBO I am playing, the crashes vary in time. Sometimes it is 1/2 hour or more, sometimes a couple of minutes. It is not specific to scenario. It is not specific to action within the game. I have loaded the nvidia driver previous to the laatest release and I will try it out
  21. Okey Dokey, it ran, no issues.
