  1. I know that infantry that are dug in are supposed to be tough, though I still think bombarding a single infantry foxhole with 15 tanks and still not killing it in 3 rounds is way too tough.
shooting at sorry fellows hiding in a foxhole does no good unless you have BIG GUNS. if you don't have BIG GUNS, and won't get right over the sissy peeps hiding in that uncomfortable-but-secure hole, you will just waste ammo.

just imagine them hiding in that hole, unseen & under ground. now how do you imagine that the bullets and such will hit & tear apart their fragile bodies thru all that soil? no freaking way. you can shoot at them for days while they are just sitting there, playing cards, writing letters and looking at naughty pictures.

you need to BLAST them away with BIG GUNS ...if you insist on shooting at the foxhole from distance.

Using machine guns or main gun, infantry running in open ground won't die in the demo when I attack them with machine guns or with main guns, using veteran tanks, and lots of them.
they are dying, not just fast enough for your likes. get closer to them. use bigger guns or get more machineguns.

remember that each soldier on the screen represents some 3-4 soldiers in reality.

It seems the computer has a much easier time destroying objects than me.
computer good, you bad. you learn.

Are these things changed in the full version, or is AI just super godlike like in all games, and infantry way tough to kill even when uncovered?

  2. i'm quite a newbie and reading this thread gave rise to a couple of questions

    1. does the hit % get higher the longer i wait before i shoot the target? how would i do the waiting in practice? set an arc and still target an unit outside the arc?

    2. will my tanks be any harder to detect if they just sit quietly without firing? does hide command help?

about the original subject. i myself have noticed that using good tanks doesn't usually pay up, unless the battle takes place on a very boring flat map. or at least it's extremely frustrating. if there is any cover, it's very easy to get to such ranges that it doesn't matter what kind of gun your tanks have.

i think that the high ROF 20mm guns are perhaps the most useful ones in the game, simply because they actually hit the target. they won't make enemy tanks blow up, but they will disable them.

  3. i was fairly disappointed when i found out that there were no dragons teeth etc even in battles taking place in Finland. i mean, how are the Finns supposed to defend against them hordes of Soviet tanks & artillery evils?

but then again, who would possibly want to play the Finn vs Soviet battles anyway. "first we walk for hours in the woods, then i fires me rifle and then you fires yours. ha ha." boooring. no king tigers, no fun at all.

and now that i'm into it, what's with not being able to play Finns vs Nazis? there is no justice in the world. THERE IS NO GOD.

my lust for life has now died. there is no joy in life. my heart now pumps black zombie blood. thanks a lot battlefront.com, thanks a lot.

  4. i want

    - waterpipes of various types & flavours, perhaps hidden in ancient underground dungeons of unearthly pleasures.

    - ability to polish boots properly & without hurry. including boots of enemy officers [female, preferably].

    - sexy bellydancing natives subjucated by SS dominatrixes.

    - ability to play the natives.

    - winter war mixed in somehow, with a campaing in which Finns fight their way to the Urals and discover the gate to R'lyeh.

  5. i have always hoped that the "killed" include the wounded and those who are taking care of the wounded. otherwise it would be silly.

just like when the squad is shooting at the minions of evil, in reality only some of the squad are doing what the moral patriots are supposed to do, while the rest are doing other things, like laying around, passing some ammo or shooting at the sky.

  6. early war is yummy!

light tanks, armored cars, tankettes and such rolling forwards like legions of rats, while the air is full of mg fire. inf guns blaze. artillery grinds the terrain faceless. deformed bodies hanging on barbed wire. waves of dead human flesh & burning metal. more, more, MORE!!! pump it up! let them come, let them come! i salute thee, o patriotic men!

  7. ho ho ho.

    - eastern front, please.

    - real 3D houses, real 3D vehicles. ability to shoot houses that are on higher ground & ability to take cover behind vehicles.

    - follow road, follow road in formation. (i shouldn't be doing this micromanagement.)

    - commands for infantry moving as fast as possible without getting tired. (i shouldn't be doing this micromanagement.)

    - water. rivers, lakes, bridges, frozen lakes, swamps.

    - cliffs.

    - key shortcuts for grouping, as in C&C, AOE etc.

    - ability to place tags on the map. like victory flags but with your own comments.

    - much longer battles & much bigger maps for <1000 point games. ~30 turn battles are more like random action than tactical strategy.

    - capture the flag play style. fun & interesting. both sides have defensive areas with foxholes and so forth. unlimited reinforcements until either side has all the flags. etc etc.

    - full movie replay. even if it makes the units "seem" super-reactive afterwards.

    - no borg thing. i freakin hate them swedes. but make it so that i won't be lured to switch between units a gazillion times to overcome the lack of hive mind.

    - ability to choose sides freely, e.g. to wage ussr vs ussr battles.

    - include damaged battlegrounds to contain destroyed vehicles.
