  1. the problem with cold war style conflict, ,say red v blue, is the main game would be an air war. or air unit intensive, at least. cant get away from that fact. i would guess it would all be over once air superiority is gained. then ground forces used to hold off attacks while air force anihalates anything that moves. this brings me to the importanst stuff games. it would be unrealistic to try a modern, erm cold war , style game with such a simplistic coverage of air power as cmx1 had. with air power in, it prob would not be fun to game. or easy to model. so in that respect syria is an ok setting . as air sup, is already a given. although im going to skip cmx2 in syria ill look forward to seeing what other setting bf can dream up.   2. thats the prob with war games. in reality the forces mentioned have to cover the whole front, moving them all into "one stack" just isnt an option. if there was restrictions like.. ME1 has to stay within defined territoy limits, like its mission 1s to take destroyed rail bridge, ME2 is to take hights over looking high way, ME is to remain in reserve. then the forces actually able to engage is 1/3 of total force. sure there would still be a heck load of battles to fight out, prob need lots and lots of players. could game engine handle like 12 players on 1 side? , just to go thru all the battles. I imagine there'd be finnish volunteers to play all those battles tho. im still worried about the forces involved but MAN I LOVE THOSE MAPS! also i guess if designer used reserves it also would drop number of units actually able to battle at one time.
  3. if you read the other OSF thread 1st thing to do is do nothing, ask eichenbaum what to do b4 doing anything. although i read starting and exiting OSF should restore missing files, didnt know scenaios where even modded. sure when you load the modded version of cmbb the only scenario is the OSF one. when you exit its all swapped back. did you exit via a crash or alt+f4? that can do some funky stuff.
  4. i set my gamma to really high, truth is i have a dying monitor and the dark color i couldnt see , i can see it with gamma really really high, like i have to at night. any how thats not your prob. yep the dos window still appears when i try n play , guess its just my crazy system , i know i dont fully understand it. im sure i installed cortvrml under windows, i remeber ticking ll the boxes under extension types. i was pointing out to someone how to get opera to use it with the file extensions,. something i cant do in win anyway it runs fine, and i'll get onto a battle soon
  5. umm was only 1 force that i couldnt see , one was blue i think other was yelow , 3rd was black maybe, i'll bump up gamma, and try toggling the base command. as to the dos window, yeah it said decompressing 0112.bmp etc i'll run again see if that happens again
  6. hi , I couldnt resist. i did grab a copy of all stuff needed to play the osf and thought id run thru what went wrong. dont worry nothing major, i looked at battle, quit out and loaded up cmbb, although i do not remeber what terrain should look like in cmmb to compare with what it should look like. any how installed fine. i ran the patch , 1st time it had an error message after install saying exe file is corrupt. so i downloaded it again and ran it again. asked if i wanted to replace files , i said yes to all, no errors this time. weird ----- ran the osf program, strted battle and it decompressed BMP files. but the dos window stayed open and didnt know if it had completed or crashed. so i waited a few min, then noticed the window name was caled finished fnally closed the wndow and another popped up decompressed some more files. may i suggest an echo text message after extraction of files is complete saying something like " fils succesfully extracted, close window to continue " or was the window meant to close by itself? -------- in the menu system career didnt seem to do anything, is that cuz theyre still to be completed? i mean front and headquaterrs went to a loading 3d enviroment splash scren and went straight back to menu. I assume its same prob asearlier poster said, with VRL files ----- finaly started the 1st battle. only complaint was one group of forces didnt sdeem to have the coloured box under them making them easay to see.. you know like red for russians, blue for germans , well the force with trucks, guns and flame throwers engineers had no colored base that i could see. i didnt play the battle , was more eager to quit and see if cmmb still worked. it did [ July 04, 2004, 02:19 AM: Message edited by: savagegoose ]
  7. i was going to wait till you had a CD to sell, but i came and read this thread, saw some pics , heard some talk , and am too tempted my pc is unstable , uncomprehendable, money sucking, trouble making , mind warping hell spawn! i almost think its a girl freind. so i copied BMPS to another folder, wil start copying all stuff and try out your new version. am a bit apprehensive, but it is only BMP's that are changed in cmbb folders? i know ya heard it already, but you guys are AWSOME!
  8. hi i have a copy of opera on here, i think you may need to add file extensions and program to run them in FILE>>PREFERNCES>>FILE TYPES THEN PASTE IN TYHE PATH TO THE cortona and the file extensions you want to load it, like .VRML etc. this was done auto for windoze, but you will have to edit it yourself for opera
  9. hi Eichenbaum, while looking over your site I noticed maps 1-3 where avail for version 1. so i grabbed opperation A-1. and loved it , only done 1st battle, and posted an AAR for it on ya site. thanks again or the effort. I assume the download next op from codes is all over and done with, and buying the CD is the new plan? I have a feeling after playing these 3 ops, i'll be waiting to buy the disk in great anticipation.
  10. yeah i think you may not understand the ability of commanders to give LOS to mortars. basically if a mortar is in command of a HQ unit, the mortar can fire at any area target in the camanding HQ's LOS. so , you have a stealthy commander on the crest ofa hill , in woods looking over a plain, the mortar is behind the hill. bit still in command. now the mortar will fire at anything on the plain as tho it is in the mortars LOS. usually meaning a 1 min or so delay , instead of the 3 or so min delay in plotting time

  12. wow looks nice, you sure have gone to a lot of effort. i am really impressed. realistic maps, and i like the interface for downloading scenarios. I sure hope you guys have'nt bitten off too much. this looks HUGE! site book marked i'll keep on looking at this one

  14. after battle , click on the inf, and hit enter, then go to kills report see if they killed it, also see the kills report for the tank
  15. ahh tks, not sure what the freezing is, i did see i gotta turn vid graphics back top minimum most things , to fix the no 2d graphics, then in chat someone said dont at+tab swap out o game till well into turn 1 and that seemed to fix the remnants of the 2d graphics probs i had. im still runnin win 98 , buddy is tryin to convince me to upgrade to xp , ispose they may have most of the bugs ironed outa xp by now for it to be safe to get

  17. i just use the enter key while a unit is selected the have a look at penetration stats for my gun at range further than the range im actually at. then select enemy tank and hit enter, and look at armour ratings for them. if fog of war doesnt give the info then i guess i dont know enuff sabout what tank it is tough for me
  18. as someone posted earlier, the tank crew may not know what is firing on them. one moment they're cruising along hoping not to be blasted by an AT crew, next their tank is on fire! i cant begin too imagine what that would feel like. looking thru a vision slot and all i see is flame. i can guess primitive feelings like "i must run" come to mind and being trapped in a burning vehicle or sitting it out and seeing if fire goes out takes more balls than i care to speculate on. a large negative moral modfier would be in order with any flame attack i imagine, hence the bailings
  19. i have a similar problem, i have a geforce 4 and started with the missing graphics from multi player games , then read about the anti alaising problem and managed to turn my AA off and that problem was solved. now while playing the game i will have the screen freeze up and it usually happens with a sound playing like an explosion. the whole machine locks up and needs rebooting. this happens on cmak and cmbb. my sound card is a SB 4.1 live windoze says all drivers are uptodate. anyhow , ive set graphics to lowest prettiness ie no AA or anisotropic settings, i'll see how that goes. i think my prob my be sound, tho the chip is same as the sb5.1 for sound card

  21. hi there, im a newb here and to CM:BB, but i jumped straight into game without reading book. and automatically went to 0 elev to check what hills , and LOS my unit had. also moved to prospective placement areas and looked. to pick best areas to move to. now after RTFM, and this talk about the abstract LOS. i see its not a great a way to determine los as i thought. stil is really nice immersion checking LOS my old wayand helpfull but not definitive. will certainly speed play for me tho
