Speaking of sound, a little trickling of water as you near a creek or river would be a nice effect.

By golly it's the Ardennes, of course. :cool:Originally posted by Elmar Bijlsma:So...

Steve, are you aware of just how many dreams you just crushed?

ha! I waited behind a low bump in the road with "cover armor" and he came to me! turned out to be a jagdpanther. One down 2 more to go...

Im playtesting this one right now against a +2 AI.
Very cool situation but bloody difficult  . Almost finished with it thankfully - Nice work.

What if... Spartacus had a Piper Cub?

Good points all. I think I better just see what happens in the scenario. It is, after all "just a game" so what's the worst that can happen?
It's amazing how the level of involvement in this game is such that a bit of bad luck will ruin a bit of my day if I let it. I really have to remind myself sometimes that at least I'm not the poor bugger getting shot at.
I would never get so worked up about a game though that I would dissect a scenario before or during a contest, just to get the upper hand. I have been politely accused of it though.

Im in the middle of a pbem game, and there seems to be a lull in the email-exchange rate. Here's my canundrum:
There is a definite chance that my JS2 is going to have to square-off with a few panthers in the not to distant future. I would really like to win this one.
I'm a strictly double-blind kind of gamer, but do you suppose that it would be considered cheating if I set up a similar "model" of the pending square-off and ran through some practice shootouts?
It just feels kind of gamey-cheesy to do this. So I look to the forum for validation...

Someone did a "gebirgsjäger pack" of scenarios that were quite good iirc. Stick around and he will likely come forward, or someone will remember.Originally posted by molotov_billy:I was hoping for a couple of gebirgsjäger missions/ops with this game, perhaps on crete or in the greece campaign, but it doesnt look like there are any.
Does anyone know of a custom made mission/operation that allows the player to use the german mountain troops?

Even more interesting is the fact that even though the Germans had some quality maps and good aerial coverage of Russia and the Baltic States, that they still insisted on continuing the deployment of armored formations through the swamps and forests toward Leningrad.Originally posted by dieseltaylor:It is a well known fact that in 1941, when the Germans invaded, Soviet field commanders (of low and medium level) did not have topographic maps of Soviet territory at all. There is a lot
of discussion of this fact in the historical literature, and I think further research is needed to see why exactly this happened.

I think this idea of marrying TPG with a TSD is the best proposal out there. The rating algorithm is just fine as well. Just a few things to add, if I may:
1. Allow sorting the scenarios by "best played as"
2. Provide funtional direction for the user as to where to find scenarios that are "final product" and where to find "works in progress (playtesting needed)"
3. Continue to allow the designer to remove/update his scenarios whenever he wants, like TPG is doing now. And if it's an update, allow the download count to continue and not restart at 0.

That's probably should be done, but not so drastic. Hold fast on the defensive until you can regain the initative. Let them come to you.Originally posted by Tagwyn:RUN for YOUR LIVES!!!

This exact thing happened to me in this operation. I was doing great, patting myself on the back for crossing the river in strength and establishing what I thought was a firm foothold.Originally posted by RSColonel_131st:Next battle starts with about 8 or 9 more russian tanks (mostly T-34) against my remaining 5 PzIIIJ, and all in firing range.
Then BAM! at least 7-8 russian tanks in firing range at the start of the battle. They tore me to pieces.
The question is, will you have the stomach to play the follow-up "failure on the Aksai?"
I didn't. yet.

The decline of this forum is remarkable. There are far more posts on those esoteric cesspool threads than actual game-related talkOriginally posted by MeatEtr:And all everybody seems to be talking about in the CMAK forum is CMx2.

Somewhat off-topic but I would like to see the city graphic toned down in size a bit. I think they look a little goofy from the screenshots. Hopefully that will be mod-able sprite.

what the feck?
This is bloody awful. TPG is good but they will need to create a new catagory for "finished" scenarios.
So little fanfare for the passing of an era

If one could make their screen black and white/greyscale, I think this photo gives an idea as to the effect that one could get in CM.

Perhaps this is why AAR's should be due when results are due. Otherwise player's who score exceptionally low (or high) enough to feel that the 4% AAR bonus will have no effect will have little or no incentive (other than a code of honor) to produce an AAR.Originally posted by Elmar Bijlsma:I was never finals material anyway and I have already seen waaay better AARs so it doesn't matter too much.
-
Maybe a stupid question, but when is the due date for AAR's? I thought it was the same as the date that results were due? I searched and found nothing regarding this.
I ask only because i'm in second place behind "stoneage" in group 6, and he apparently hasn't submitted any AAR's. This may push me to the 1st place slot no?
And how do the administrators know if the AAR's have been posted to a web site?

1. Allow combining of 1 man remnants into larger squads, perhaps at a cost to overall morale.
2. Provide for water courses of different types, and add some water sound effects.
3. Provide a linked campaign system with core group history.
4. Maintain current historical integrity. No Arcade gaming here.
5. Don't feel that you have to over-tax current technology just to make a great looking game that only plays on top-end systems. Allow the user to toggle hardware demands from the pre-game interface.
