They are LRPVs (Long Range Patrol Vehicle). Clicky IMO a LRDG type of force doesnt hold ground. Instead they provide eyes on the ground over an extremly large area. They can conduct a variety of tasks "hearts and minds", raids, road blocks. They are a force multiplier, they allow a small number of men and equipment to influence a large area allowing the normal formations to be concentrated in other places.
