Advice for Possibly Returning Player
GerryCMBB replied to GerryCMBB's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Had to look up stone gas - haha. How are QBs in v.3 versus v.1. Curious if there have been improvements. Does the AI for example do all kinds of battles OK are are some to be avoided? -
Advice for Possibly Returning Player

I understand. But for me there is a point where it then becomes work and not play. And the system may just be too sophisticated for me. But it is also excellent so it is a tough call. I will be playing with it a bit to see how it goes. Thanks again. Is there a thread that has some info on their next WW II creation? -
It makes navigation so easy - allows you to find a unit in a sec. I hope they do something about it. Maybe they don't think enough people want it? Thanks for letting me know.

Advice for Possibly Returning Player
GerryCMBB replied to GerryCMBB's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Thanks. Is there a gridded mod you can recommend for CMFB? Is it the same idea as before, adding the mod to a folder Z (assuming I don't want to use a mod manager yet). I struggle massively with the terrain. -
Advice for Possibly Returning Player

Thanks very much. I found the CMFB demo so I now see the command lines. And that is a big help in terms of organization for me. CMFB is still just v3.0 too, right? I assume you cannot use a grided-terrain mod on a demo? Thanks again. -
Hello All: Trying the demo to see if I can get back into the game. I have CMBN and CMFI. In CMFI a feature that I liked was introduced but didn't work for me, namely camera groups. CTRL-1 for example assigns Camera Group 1 to unit X and when you want to find that unit quickly you just hit ALT-1. However in CMFI when you save the game and exited it seemed to lose this link. Same thing happens me in CMFB. Has anyone got these camera group bindings to stick so when you load a saved battle they are there again? Thanks, Gerry

Hello All: Have CMBN and CMFI but have not played either for years. Struggled with the system (being able to see those dips in the terrain, the size of most battles, etc.). Wargaming is not my primary hobby so I don't want to buy the newer games yet until I see if I can get back into it. I would like to start dappling with CMBN again (small QBs or very small scenarions - found a really small one A Ranger Squad gets a Tall Order - thanks Edward). I just have v1.11. 1) What are the changes in the v3 upgrade that makes is easier to play the game (maybe UI, map tools, etc.) for one that has struggled with most computer wargames. I can read the log of changes but I am interested in learning if these changes made it easier for you to play the game. 2) Would v.3 include all the features in v2.0 and any v.1 patch so you just need the v.3 upgrade? Note I am not interested in editor features. Really would appreciate any advice. Thanks. Gerry

Battlefront have done a wonderful job managing expectations so there are many that will think is a great deal. I realize in the CMx1 system they provided too much content per game. But now they have gone overboard the other way.

Updated Kampfgruppe Engel campaign on Repository

I have tried to get back into CMx2. Was thinking of starting by using Bill's exercises. But this is the stuff that drives me nuts. Supposedly every bullet is tracked but we have stuff go missing or not be at the right level. And the whole LOF/LOS issue from setup to first turn! -

Thanks very much. I am back on my regular machine now but may try some of this before the next trip. -
Windows 8.1 - Troubles! - Exception Error
GerryCMBB replied to GerryCMBB's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
Thanks very much. I am travelling so I don't have the full game with me (I believe when I bought it I downloaded it so there was no CD). So just seeing will the game work for me by trying the demo. 1. What should I see when the system is walking me through the various resolution chopices? All I see is the textbox with the choices. Should something else show up to show the resolution is working? 2. I have searched but cannot find the Prefs file. Any help? 3. Highest resolution I see from the start is 1280 x 960 at 60Hz. I now notice too that every time I start the program it brings up the resolution choices again so looks like it's not saving the choices. 4. Lastly I have been getting more progress each time before the exception error kicks in. Now I just opened the tutorial scenario and saw the graphics for the first time but then teh error occured before I could do anything. Thanks again, Gerry -
Export Scenario/QB OOB to Text?
GerryCMBB replied to GerryCMBB's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
Anyone? I don't need to do anything fancy with it. I just want to be able to import the data to say Excel so I can have a printed OOB. I find the game a bit overwhelming if I cannot see an overview of my units. It would help me with immersion also. Thanks, Gerry P.S. Looks like some people are still playing CMBB!? -
Hello All: Curious if there is a utility that can export the OOB of a scenario or QB to a text file or Excel file? Thanks, Gerry

Hello: Thanks to all for your responses. And thanks Jason for your detailed response. I have enjoyed the training scenarios. The reason for my delay here is that I had stopped playing CMx2 and even CMx1. The latter seems simpler to me and the one I hoped I could play. I struggle in both series seeing what a unit can see. So Jason when you talk about the dips in the terrain I find that hard to see. I looked again now and did see a dip near the setup zone. I drove the 3 T-34s in there and only lost one this time. Without your tip I couldn't really see those, to me, subtle terrain nuances. This is my big problem - seeing a 3-D landscape on a 2-D computer screen, even though I use a grid mod. Thanks again, and I may give CMBB another try. I don't know if you are thinking of doing similar training exercises for CMRT. I am sure there are many players that could use them but maybe everyone is now able to play CMRT after years of CMx1 and CMx2 exposure? Thanks again, Gerry

This looks very much like Western Europe? Or at least it hasn't changed much from CMBN etc. as in walls, buildings, ground/grass. Gerry

Thanks for the answers. In terms of ATGs, are they now more camouflaged. In RL the ATG team would have tools to help them do this. All we can do as players is just find the best spot for the gun; we cannot camouflage it. Gerry
-
Hello All: Congratulations on releasing the game. Wondering about these three issues. I asked before but got no reply. 1. The loader of the ATG sees a juicy tank but the ATG cannot fire as the Gunner cannot see it. IOW has it been changed so that the ATG team can make a small adjustment to the gun so it can fire at the target. 2. Moving tanks being able to spot ATGs too easily? 3. In the CMFI AAR there seemed to be a problem with setting up bunkers where units seemed to have LOS but then when the game started the bunker dropped a bit into the mesh so there was no longer good LOS from it. Thanks in advance, Gerry

Anyone have any comment on these 3 questions, please. Thanks, Gerry

Any answers on #s 1-3? Appreciated, Gerry
