True.  I've never made a scenario or designed a campaign so I have no idea what it would entail. It does seem a lot of things came down to luck in the book.  I do think it could still be fun.  I think of Bannon and Garger's run through the Soviet occupied town after the battle on Hill 214 and yeah, that would be difficult to realistically survive but it sure was entertaining!  And what did the Mech Platoon face in that battle, like a whole company? Or wasn't it even more? You're probably right.

Hi everyone.....thought I'd do an update. I am working on a campaign. The first three scenarios ("First Battle", "If You're Gonna Come...", and "Counter Attack at Objective LOG") are complete and I think they do a good job of giving a "Team Yankee" feel. Currently working on the map for scenario four, "The Defense of Hill 214".

One thing about the book is that Team Yankee is almost always in an advantageous position OR has better equipment. That is certainly true for the first two scenarios. The run through the town is a case in point...the Soviets by that time are totally depleted, their tanks have been destroyed, and the motor rifle battalion they are facing is from the reserve so they have BTR's instead of BMP's. Team Yankee in the book ALWAYS has luck on its side.

You can set reinforcements for the AI side (on either side - Blue or red)  to not arrive in the scenario timeframe. That prevents one side prematurely surrendering. It does mean it becomes a fight to the death though... So you need to ensure the player is not left on some sort of human hunt seeking out every last cowering pixel trooper to secure a victory!

Unfortunately, that's where I'm at. Every vehicle had been destroyed and I had to hunt down almost all the survivors to trigger the auto surrender.

No that is not an option for scenario design. You only have time. With one exception, if the AI force gets worn down it will automatically surrender. You don't get to control that though.

Is there a certain level the AI force has to get to? I've been testing some scenarios and the AI never surrenders no matter what happens.

Just played this battle.  When the shooting started, it was over in about two minutes.  Funny thing is, the battle turned out just like it did in the book even down to losing only one vehicle.  An M-901.

The way Team Yankee is deployed and the way the Soviets just blindly charge at them doesn't give Ivan much chance. I'm working on a campaign and hopefully I can give them a better chance in later battles.

I mean, I'm not going to be that jerk to throw a "RTFM" at anyone ... but that has been a feature for some time (since Engine 2 or 3?) - see CM Engine Manual v4.00 (page 91) or A Scen Design AAR PDF Book (page 32). 😁

The manuals are really worth the read for anyone making scenarios - some kind soul put a good effort into those works. 👍

Here's what a "Ditch locked" tank position looks like on flat ground:

I knew there had to be something like this but I couldn't find it.

Thanks.  Quick question:  I’m assuming the arty should be called in after the first turn with a 5 minute delay and not during the initial setup phase.  Correct?

Hi...I think I need to make that more clear in the briefing. You should call in the arty during the initial setup. Anything else and Ivan might have too much of a start.

  7. I was going to give it a spin in the HTH mode against a human oponent, but when I started studying the situation from the Russian perspective I could see no terrain objectives at all and moreover no map marks to help me realize where we should exfiltrate the AO once the mission is more or less complete. I thought that there is something off in my settings, but no, no such thing. Is is possible I happen to have some older version of the scenario?

    Sorry burroughs,

I only made it for single player from the Blue side. I feel like that forces are balanced for h2h though.

  8. Hi guys...thanks for trying it out. I can't take credit for the map it was one of the quick battle maps. I added trees in some areas to block line of sight but other than that didn't touch it.

I think that it is tough for the US at the beginning, especially if you don't know what's coming. I was trying to get an ebb and flow situation going.

  9. Hi everyone. So I thought I give creating a scenario a try and came up with this. It's a large scenario and was totally my first attempt ever. It took a few days to show up on the repository and then I was on vacation when it did. I played it as many times as I could. So I thought I'd let you people give a try testing it. It is Blue only and comments, critiques would be welcome.

  10. Sorry Splinty I worded my question wrong. What I meant to say was... Is it possible to make AI reinforcements appear in different locations for different IA plans? If "A" Company arrives at one place for one plan, is it possible for it to arrive in a different place for a different plan?
