  1. Mission accomplished on erasing JK's deficit, but at the moment it won't budge off "0" neutrality and into positive territory. He's long been both active and unfailingly polite. His posts are often helpful and interesting. Moving his rep to a positive number seems like an appropriate tip of the hat.
  2. CM2 games include the (sadly underused) "fitness" setting on the unit design screen for a similar purpose. It has a drop menu allowing the scenario designer to select between "fit", "weakened", and "unfit." The CMBN manual (for example) on page 131 describes the settings as follows: "FITNESS -- determines the inherent degree of physical readiness of the unit's soldiers. This influences on how quickly soldiers tire and recover from physical tasks, such as running or being bombarded by enemy fire. Options include: Fit, Weakened, and Unfit." For example, I would use the setting for Germans in the late stages of the battle of Stalingrad, weakened by cold and hunger, or some Volksstum troops slowed by age (I think I have enough silver in my hair to make that last observation without offending my age cohort). Reducing the setting to "weakened" or "unfit" allows the scenario designer to simulate troops entering the scenario in a compromised state such as from battle exhaustion, hunger, and so forth, and will reduce their ability to move without tiring, or to recover from fatigue. However, I agree with Josey Wales' observation that it may be worthwhile to reduce their experience as well if you wish to have an impact on the troops' spotting ability, accuracy, morale, ability to recover from suppression and ability to pass on information. None of THOSE appear to be impacted by fitness level. EDITED TO ADD: I just noticed a couple of mentions in the thread that I had missed earlier discussing the "fitness" settings. To the extent my post unnecessarily repeats old points I apologize. But I'm keeping my post up because I think a bit of evangelizing about the use of that feature remains worthwhile.
  3. This looks great! P.S.: Any chance of releasing the NK infantry reskin (either based on the Russians or the Ukrainians, or, better yet both) as a separate mod for those looking to start toying with your creations right away? The other textures look amazing too!
  4. Will we have foxholes and trenches in the style of other CM2 titles? (Great to see these bones by the way; very much looking forward to the upgraded CMSF).

  6. Nice! The bent, "snow-laden" look would be my preference, but given the existing limitations that looks like a great mod. Thanks benpark!
  7. For the record, my concern is for the trees to show visible snow. Not the "snow weighing down the branches" issue (although that would be nice too).
  8. Is it possible to get snow-laden trees in CMFB? There were settings in CMBO/BB that presented trees with snow weighing down the branches, which was visually appealing (and accurate for recent snowfall). Am I missing the magic settings, or is this absent from CMFB? Is the problem having to bend the branches to show the weight of the snow? Any chance of a feature being added later? I don't usually post about eye-candy issues, but snow maps don't look right to me with bare trees. (Post Script: Knowing this crowd, having used the term "laden" I can count on someone asking "African or European?" My answer is: "European.")
  9. Is it really necessary for the game to provide a back story? Couldn't BFC just make a middle-eastern warfare sandbox game? That seem to be what people actually did with Shock Force. It's certainly what I did with Shock Force. I don't recall players actually attempting to simulate the same hypothetical conflict provided by BFC, at least not frequently. Same goes for the scenario outlined in CMBS. So, BFC could just produce a sandbox game, call it "Powderkeg" or some such, and have it feature a few armies. Say, the U.S., a couple of unconventional forces like the ones in the original Shock Force, and a generic middle eastern army or two, with assorted east block and/or western equipment, that properly configured and with a few mods/uniform choices could plausibly represent a number of different potential combatants. Who is "blue" and who fights blue as "red" is up to the player. Much like Shock Force really, but without the complications of BFC attempting to impose a story line. Later modules could add more armies (Turkey, Britain, France, Egypt, Iran, what have you), without really needing to justify their battlefield presence according any story line. They would just be more toys for the sandbox -- use them as you will. Oh, and I would cheerfully shell out $75. (Actually, I would pay far more, but don't tell my wife).
  10. What about the Free French and French Colonials? Those, especially the colonials, would my first choice. I don't see them in the list above.
  11. That was a seriously great mod. If Battlefront ever does the reboot of CMSF we occasionally hear about, I hope you come out with a version of that mod again.
  12. Mord, your CMBN American voices mod is the single best mod for a CM game I've run across -- and I use a lot of mods. Thanks again for your work on that one!

  16. My post above based on seeing the pictures of the map, which looked nice. Now that I've downloaded them and gone in and looked at them up close, I feel compelled to post again. These are really great!
  17. Brilliant work Blimey! This is just the mod I was hoping for. I especially like the version that mods the Ukrainian digital camo. (For my purposes, I altered it slightly by removing the "covered" face -- otherwise it appears on the standard Ukrainians and doesn't look quite right on them). Thank you!
  18. All very good points. I've generally avoided walking out of fear that units in that state are especially vulnerable to incoming fire. Not really sure if that was a feature from CM x1 edition games, or, really, if it was ever true.
