  1. Good post Pud,the unspotted gun will always get the first shot in as you say and there's not much we can do about it,but its downhill for it from then on, as a revealed guns life expectancy can be measured in mere seconds or a minute at most provided you've got enough units around to give immediate heavy return fire, as its just a soft squashy target that won't last long. After the engagement just hope the exchange wasn't too expensive for you

  3. I use one of the "zig-zag" trench mods,beautiful-looking!
  4. Bjorn-The CM Tactics site seems to have gone down this past few days but give me your e-m address and I'll send you a !Cmbb Units Quick-buy Guide" doc. Same to anybody else who wants one
  5. Clarification-Gameyness I can smile at,but downright cheating is a whole new ball game, and anybody who tries to cheat his way to victory better watch out!
  6. or for inevitable death as the enemy infantry comes through the house. any opponent that sends his tanks unescorted into an enemy urban area doesn't deserve better. </font>

  8. Goodale, you're a funny guy Full marks for keeping this hoax running for so long matey!
  9. First off,an all-inf battle in WW2 is unrealistic and unenjoyable! Tanks were invented to make war more fun so I can't understand why anybody would want to set up a giant game without them?I know there were largish all-inf actions in WW2,but only where tanks couldn't accompany the inf because of impenetrable terrain or whatever. In short,to set up a game where the attacking inf have a long advance march in anything but the densest terrain to reach the defender is to ask for trouble,as they're going to be hammered by his bombardments, cut to pieces by his long-range HMGs, light mortars and inf-guns, and clobbered by air attack long before they arrive at his wire and minefields!Where's the fun for the attacker in that? This is WW2,not a Somme re-enactment! (Edit-Sorry Uedel mate but I'm pulling out of our proposed battle because of the above reasons. And if anybody yells "chicken" at me,I expect to see them volunteer to take you on instead !) 12. Uedel mein freund,I'm telling you all this in an e-m,and also posting it here for peoples interest:-Thanks for the first file, but we need to discuss a few things first!-As the attacker with 5160pts to spend(against your 3000),the buy screen allows me (for example)8 x 122mm bombardments,7 x 12.7mm HMGs,and 11 companies of infantry(ie-33 platoons) The time needed to order 99 squads around means we'd be playing for the next six months(yawn),so what I suggest is we scrap it before we start, then you can set it up again as a 1500-pointer.And I'd like some say about the terrain, say Town/Heavy trees/modest hills? Remember, you're giving me NO tanks or vehs,so to balance that I'd like typical inf-only terrain, fair enough?
  13. Hey Uedel-E-mail me to discuss setting up a QB pbem and I'll take what you consider to be the worst side,to see if I have any better luck than you seem to be having!
  14. Yes Mike,by giving an ATG a narrow field, you're setting up a neat "line of death" which is lethal for anything that blunders into it. I usually put guns smack behind buildings, they can see zilch forwards, but have two lines of death going obliquely forwards past each side of the house.A few guns sited in a town like this will see the town criss-crossed by these lines like a spiders web!Sit tight and wait for the flies!

  16. Yeah Goodale,it's a good thing you're a regular guy who doesn't just want to make big bucks out of them by selling them to the newspapers... (Edit-Hey Goodale,my mate Headshot wonders why he aint on your Daddies list after he greedily ate your TNT by the bucketfull and still beat you?) 17. Bunched tanks are also liable to decimation by an airstrike,I lost 3 shoulder-to-shoulder KV-1s to a single bomb that way,but hey--that's life!

  19. I asked the Russian Embassy in London the same question some 15 years ago and they sent (free) several decent Russian-published books translated into English with maps and photos, nothing earthshaking but interesting nevertheless. And before you ask,no sorry I don't still have 'em,gave 'em away long ago!
  20. 1-March your inf in line abreast towards his half of the map, with your tanks following in a tightish group a little way behind. 2-When his inf has to open up on your inf at close range, wipe them out with tank fire. 3-Resume your advance with what's left of your inf, with your tank group following behind again. 4-His AT-guns will shortly have to open up on your inf who are about to walk onto them. 5-Now that you can see his guns, kill them with your tanks. Brutally simplistic I know, but edited to the bone for lack of space.E-m me anybody for more detailed discussion!

  22. You GOTTA have:- 1-The 4 Gridded terrain mods (Lt snow/Deep snow/ Grass/ Steppe) which lay a faint 20-metre sq grid over the map to allow at-a-glance contour, perspective and range assessment. 2-Transparent ruins to enable you to see infantry among the fallen timbers of a collapsed building.
  23. Hey Deadmarsh,I'm not just talking about what goes on in the field,as a true gameyphile will also try to sneak things past us before the start, right at the setup and purchase screens, so make sure you read the fine print first,or you might find for example that he's suckered you into a rain game to bog your armour while his defenders sit snugly still! I've played the ladders and could write a book about the things that go on in there..! (Edit:-At least one ladder club states in its rules "Any member caught cheating will be instantly expelled from the club" So it obviously does go on! Bad Karma!) [ January 26, 2003, 05:04 PM: Message edited by: Gutshot ]
  24. Dedicated opponents who use every trick in the book to get an edge without pussyfooting around are my kind of people,as it makes victory all the sweeter when I zap them,so e-m me anytime for a cmbb QB pbem and show me what you got!
  25. Hey all newbies!-Check out a couple of Cmbb articles for beginners written by Headshot at the Combat Mission Tactics site,or even better drop him an e-m to enrol at his free Headshots Battle Academy. (mikplym@aol.com)
