  1. I think it's safe to say, the less feedback you get, the better the scenario is. We're too busy playing the game to gush all over the forums.
  2. I think it's more the design of the cannon. The 12.8cm is adapted from a field gun, I.E. it was not designed specifically for tank fighting. It's much the same comparison between the U.S. 3-Inch gun, and the 75mm L/70 on the Panther. One is a gun adapted for use in a tank, the other was specifically designed with tank fighting in mind.
  3. I found a machine gun range layout diagram, now I'm just trying to plan the rest of the course. Can anyone point me towards information about how assault courses are laid out?
  4. Sounds good to me. Now I just have to bury myself in the map editor for a couple days.
  5. Honestly this falls squarely into my "things I wish I had read" column. I was more of a Heinlein fan when I was a kid.
  6. I've got some JP-5, but none of those dilithium crystal nonsense.
  7. I'm finally getting down to making more TTP videos, but I wanted to ask the denizens of GDF for some ideas. The next several parts will be focused on characteristics, performance, and use of supporting weapons. Primarily Machineguns, Mortars, Anti-Tank Guns, and On-Map Artillery. I have a couple ideas as far as video format goes, but I wanted to ask the potential audience. Idea #1 - Purely informative lecture for each sub-category of weapon, with limited demonstration of it's use, and general characteristics. Sort of like these: Idea #2 - The creation of some type of 'Assault Course' that would require target engagement, show the effects of fire, require re-deployment, and show comparative performance between competing weapon systems. For example, a machinegun begins in an emplaced position deployed. It engages targets at various ranges, once destroyed it then un-deploys, moves down a path through various obstacles and terrain, enters an ambush scenario requiring the use of crew small-arms, then must immediately deploy to engage targets advancing on it. Notes would be taken of how long it takes to set up or take down the gun, how heavy the gun is, and how easy it is to move, how effective the crew can be with their typical small arms, and how capable the weapon is at stopping a determined advance by a few squads. My question to you folks is, which approach would prove more valuable to the Combat Mission player?
  8. 'The Complete Roman Army' by Adrian Goldsworthy is a good read for anyone interested in the subject. I did happen by your blog a while ago Bil, but I haven't read it as much as I should have. Maybe if I get down to doing a Rome II Campaign on my channel I'd be over there more often.
  9. Anyway, let me add something so I'm not just trolling. How many of you are familiar with the C&Rsenal YouTube Channel? They do reviews of World War One firearms.
  10. It is sad to see ships laid up, and rusting away. Even the ship that bears the name of our great nation is in need of help: I know she's not a warship, but still. Lovely lady. I hate to see great machines rust away.
  11. I have three games running at the moment, otherwise I'd go for this.
  12. My stated goal for any hypothetical lottery winnings is exactly this.
  13. In my current Rule the Waves campaign, I'm rebuilding the entire U.S. Navy from pre-1900 to 1950. To that end, I've been on wiki searching old U.S. Navy ships, and I stumbled across this gem: Photochrom of the U.S.S. Texas the first "modern" battleship commissioned into the U.S. Navy.
  14. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Poe's Law states: If you cannot tell something is a joke, and it's not obviously stated it's a joke, then it's real, or assumed to be real.
  15. You mean the one-on-one duel? I loved that. It's one of those magical CM moments. A bailed-out crewman versus the lone survivor of an AT team, crammed into the side of the wheatfield, up against a stone wall, while the rest of the battle rages around them... Yeah, I really need to play CM more often. Subject to the requirements of the service...
  16. And now, for those of you who have followed along, a special video. All of the action in this PBEM game, recorded in my normal style. Enjoy.
  17. In the meantime, Mishrae, welcome to the forums. Don't forget to bookmark both the repository, and The Scenario Depot III: http://www.thefewgoodmen.com/tsd3/ The Proving Grounds II: http://www.thefewgoodmen.com/tpg2/ and the CMMODS website: http://cmmodsiii.greenasjade.net/ You can also find good information on the following YouTube Playlist: as well as a fantastic source of advanced tactics on Bil Hardenberger's Blog Site, Battle Drill: http://battledrill.blogspot.com/ You'll learn the community itself fairly quickly, no flaws, no vices, no sense of humor. Once again, welcome.
  18. Maybe when Battlefront is solvent enough to employ a full-time community manager, then we might see such things.
  19. Having just recently finished "The Tank Killers" myself, Mr. Yeide mentions the field expedient of welding steel plates as overhead cover as a late-war modification for urban environments, and protection from artillery fragments. The overhead cover then became a standard fixture at some point in the future (mid - '45), but given the Tank Destroyer branch was disbanded after World War Two, it never came to fruition. It seems different units adopted different modifications.
  20. Now, now, Erwin, one can always type "Combat Mission Mods" into google...
  21. That looks properly badass. Time to get an imgur account. I've already deleted my photobucket. http://imgur.com/
