  1. From Gaylord Falker on why the Japenese attacked America-- "The USA embargo on Japan for it's agression was hindering the empire's ability to wage war since it was the U.S who was hooking them up with all that nice scrap metal, oil, and rubber. Japan was looking at it as more of a now or never situation, wich never was never considered as since they wanted to make their empire larger, a war with the U.S was inevitable." This might be true for scrap metal and rubber but I thought the Dutch oil from Indonesia, which Japan conquered, was more than sufficiant to provide the demand of Japan. The US strategy during the war centered on cutting this oil supply off.
  2. ""Originally posted by Gaylord Focker: i think the Axis would have defeated the Soviet Union had it not been for American, British, and Commonwealth forces," Then posted by Tero- I think the forces were not as instrumental (as such) as was the aid they sent. In a what-if scenario where the USA is not going to war against the Germans it would not have ensured the fall of USSR by default. And this because the fact FDR was already giving (or selling) aid to the British and the Soviets as it was." The US went on a war time economy after Pearl Harbor. No way would the lend lease program have contributed to the war effort in the same quantity without the shift to a total war economy. In 1941 the US was the only country with any significant surplus manufacturing capacity available to immediately make a major contribution to the war effort. That capacity was moderately in use during the 1940-41 years, but went all out after Pearl Harbor. The stupidist attack I can envision was Pearl Harbor.
  3. Forgot to mention this is one of the most interesting threads I've seen. That's saying a lot cause you guys who post on this board are mana for any history buff. Thanks.
  4. Try this out. The German high water mark was 12/7/41. As unpopular as this will be, in my opinion, the Germans lost the war when their allies the Japs pulled one of the stupidest attacks in all of recorded history and attacked Pearl Harbor. Could the US have won the war alone? I don't know. Reality is GB was alive and kicking. The other wealthy members of the Empire were willing to pitch in. Top off the bad decision making by the Japs, Hitler decides it's a good thing to invade Russia. Another genius decision. There may be many weaknesses in the US and GB systems. Attacking superior countries isn't one of them. Delusional governments are created by lack of democracy.
  5. Post on the 1.03c thread if you can find it. I had a similar prob with 1.03c, I killed all but nine men of the enemies and suffered a minor defeat. This was over five battles. The explanations offered by the appologists were inadequate. Your post in the thread might prompt a look see by BFI before they come out with the final CMBB patch.
  6. This should be in the 1.03c topic list if you want BFC to look at it in the next version.
  7. So have the victory/defeat calucations changed in v1.03c or not? How could anybody get a minor defeat when the AI has 9 soldiers on the board and the player has 200+? There were no visible flags on the board.
  8. I started a thread on this tonight, might of screwed up because this is probably an obvious problem (bug). Using 1.03c, playing the CD version of "21st Army Counterattacks operation" as Allies per the creators recommendation. Over 4 battles I kick the computers ass but get a Minor Defeat result. Here's the results--tell me if this is a minor defeat-- Results reported just like the AAR Axis/Allies Men Ok 9/326 (yes he only had 9 men on the board) Total Casualities 362/253 Men Killed 183/125 Mortars Destroyed 6/0 Guns Destroyed 5/0 Vehicles Destroyed 2/5 All other parameters were 0/0. Spoiler--AI had a ton af air force, maybe this went incorrectly into the calcs. Minor defeat NOT! Major Vic YES! Is there a bug in the victory calc in 1.03c?
  9. I ran a tank up and down the end of the map. That's how i spotted (spoiler) the stuff on the 3rd battle that was easily handled. On the last battle I ran a tank up and down the hay fields in the far side of the map, never spotted anything, there were 9 men hidden. They were a hq unit, co lvl, with 3 men, and an infintranty unit with 6 men. A minor loss??
  10. There weren't any flags. I had been over the entire map at one time or another searching out his remaining few guys. The Axis did have a large air force, does this come into the calculation? Playing V1.03c.
  11. Just finished playing the Operation "21st Army Counterattacks" as Allied which was recommended by the author. Really enjoyed the first day of battles (4 battles total), also a really nice map. I apsolutely kicked ass but in the end was awarded a minor defeat. The AAR was as follows-- Listed as CMBB does it Axis/Allies Men OK 9/326 (yeah he had 9 guys on the map at end) Total Casualties 362/253 Men Killed 183/125 Men Captured 0/9 Mortars Destroyed 6/0 Guns Destroyed 5/0 Vehicles Destroyed 2/5 All other parameters were 0/0. He had more casualities, a much higher % casualties, his guns killed a few tanks, but I got all his guns. I don't understand the final outcome. Not that it's any big deal because I enjoyed playing the operation a lot. Possible spoiler Was it because of all the points the Axis had in air force?
  12. I really enjoyed playing the campaign until the gun bug hit. My tanks kept getting killed in an abnormal fashion. I'll begin again after the last version of CMBB is released.
  13. Hey guys-- I continue to slog along, currently in August. 1941. Good work, thanks to all the team. Has anybody attempted to automate the rolls for 1942? I'm a few months away from 1942. Currently using the Max BrauHaus auto roller spreadsheet. Max, will you rework the spreadsheet for 1942?
  14. I have procrastinated playing game 10 in 1941 because I spent my free time last week watching all 12 episodes of Band of Brothers rented from Blockbuster. I peeked at the Biltong rules for 1942, man what a difference. I'll be leading a pretty large armor group with a large infintry contingent. A large, well balanced group. Question for Biltong?? What is the reason for upsizing all in 1942? Is it because the 1942 battles involved more troops? Is more troops for the axis an offset to things like higher casualty rates, lower ammo%?
  15. I'm posting a letter to the editor of a hobby mag that you guys will appreciate, unfortunately I have to type the damn thing and my typing sucks, so hold on-- "I had the honor, in my 22 years in the US infantry of serving in or with all three of the wonderful sevens. The 7th Army fought its way into Europe in WWII and stayed on with headquarters in Stuttgart. The 7th infantry division originated in New Mexico sallying forth from Fort Ord, Cal. to Attu in the aleutians (Alaska ed) then via a half a dozen battles to occupy Korea. The 7th Infantry (no name stated by army custom) is the 7th Infantry Regiment with 200 years of service including North Africa to Bertchesgaden, Germany (first US troops there), to Korea with the 39thInfantry Division, where they covered the withdrawal of Marines and the 7th Infantry Division from Hungnman. The 7th Infantry were the last troops to embark and held off the Red chinese above Seoul in June-July, 1953. That regiment has the most battle streamerson its colors in the US army. An alert reader might guess that I claim membership in the 7th Infantry. Our crest shows a cotton bale, an honor earned in the Battle of New Orleans, War of 1812." Dr. JW Kerr author
