  1. Hel-lo again! Happy Xmas! Tried changing the resolutions as suggested and also checked the shortcut icons I was launching the game from to make sure nothing was 'checked' in the compatability tab. Tried running it again and, guess what?, it minimised!! Aaargh! Are you running out of ideas or have you any more suggestions? thanks for your help. Sam.
  2. Hi Schrullenhaft thanks for your post of 15 December. I have followed your instructions - gone into task manager and ended all the programs with my user name under them apart from the two you mentioned (there were quite a few and I have no idea what they were or do but assume it was okay to end them!).I also copied the pref file you sent into the main Programs/Combat Mission 3 Afrika Korps file, not any of the sub files. Tried to run it again and all it did was minimise once more! To answer your question, most of the time it just minimises straight off and we get no messages at all. The 'cannot initialise 3D graphics' message only comes up after it has been installed and tried to run it the first time after installation. Hope you can come up with another idea?!?
  3. Hello Schrullenhaft! Thanks for trying to help us out a bit! In answer to your queries I have the following: The CMAK version is the CDV one, I am running Windows XP Home Edition, Video driver 30.82 (is that the right number? I installed it last time for CM2), for the NVidia GeForce4MX420 Card, with DirectX Version 9 running. I have followed your instructions and turned off the antialiasing, although I have NO idea what it was or what it's for! Desktop is running at 800 x 600 with refresh rate of 60Hz. I tried uninstalling and then reinstalling CMAK to see if it made any difference or to see if it would force the screen resolution choice to come up again, but neither of these happened, no difference has been made - it just minimizes straight away again (and then I can't get rid of that!). Please help, v frustrated, Sam.
  4. Please Help If you can. We had a similar problem once before when installing and running CM2 but I can't remeber what we did to sort it out. I have bought CMAK and installed it as normal. I have and NVidia Graphics card bought at the time I installed CM2. My problem is that, when initially going to play, a pop up box appears stating 'cannot initialzie 3D graphics'. After this, when I have put CD in and double clicked on icon to play the game, NOTHING HAPPENS except for a title and small icon appearing in the start bar at the bottom of the screen. This doesn't respond at all and either floats off or comes back when clicked on! CM2 and other games all play fine on the graphics card and screen resolution we set it up for before, what can I do to get gaming?!
  5. Okay, just want to say thanks very much to all the people that have posted solutions on here in the past. Thanks to you it seems that i have succeeded in getting the game to load correctly. Don't ask me how really. I looked at a response from Matt to someone else and went into the nVidia site, downloaded the 30.82 version of the driver update even though 41.09 was the latest version on offer. After I had done this (having already uninstalled Combat mission 2 and Quicktime from the Control panel and reinstalled the Nvidia driver) i reinstalled the game. when it launched it asked me to accept the graphics on the white box and i flicked throught to resolution 800 x 600 on 60Hz on nvidia GeForce 4 etc. and...BINGO! it worked. my husband will be a very happy bunny. thanks for the forum, it has really helped! Sam.
  6. Just a quick P.S. we didnt get the white box forcing to accept the resolutions after we delted the Prefs, it just launched again? Is this right? It work with CMBO but not CMBB but as you can see from above message that didnt last long either. Our system is only 6 months old so cant figure this one at all!
  7. Aaaagh! Really sorry but need even more help! We were running at 60Hz refresh and screen resolution was on 800 x 600. Having tried to muck about with resolutions while waiting or a reply we now have even more problems. Have removed the Prefs files as suggested. this is how I have done so far... (sorry its long winded)... CMBB installed, removed Quicktime (although it still seems to stay on the add/remove list??), installed both directx 8.1 and nVidia from new driver disk after installed 3D card. NOW we cant get CMBO to run at all - it just appears as a small icon on start task bar and wont respond let alone open program. Same is happening with CMBB but also we are getting messages saying either "cannot initilise 3D graphics" which i know are there, or more recently "cannot find C:\PROGRAM~1\CMBB\COMBAT~1\xxxxx" followed by "could not execute the external program C:\PROGRAM~1\CMBB\COMBAT~1" !!!!! as you can probably understand I am getting a little frustrated now, and its not even my game - I just get to sort it out! I dont have huge knowledge of jargon terms, a bit like happystomper, but I DO know that it was working once before, we just had truncated graphics on it. We have even tried uninstalling and reinstalling both these games around three times each and nothing seems to work. Please help me if you can, I have run out of options!!! Thanks, Sam.
  8. Please help us with this one! Having read the messages between happystomper and sc  hrullenhaft from October we have installed a new video card and driver - GeForce4 MX 420 and nVidia - which has solved our problem of not getting the 3D maps up, although everything else was there! now we seem to be having a problem with the actual game. The main menu page option bars over lap each other and, when we go into play a scenario the right hand side of the info panel is off the screen. Obviously this limits playing capability! Have tried to change resolution of screen without much success. Thought we had done it and re-installed the game but it didn't ask to accept the graphics in the white box, but just went straight into the intro screen. Any help gratefully received as have now spent a week trying to get onto the game and partner is climbing the walls!
  9. Please try and help me out. As before am still having probs getting the 3D maps up when going to play, the screen is black where the 3D maps should be although the info panels are fine and present. I have tried changing the display monitor resolution without much success and am currently trying to work out exactly what video card and driver I have in my system (a bit new to hardware qns). I run the following system: Intel Pentium 4 2GHz, 256MbRam, Chip Set sis650, and have downloaded DirectX9 from the website. I am able to run CMBO with no problems and the graphics are fine on this so...Can anyone please help and give any suggestions??? Thanks, scud.
