Got to admit, as excited as I am with the coming of CMBN, it's nothing compared to how excited I am at the prospect of the Eastern Front getting the CMx2 treatment eventually. There is in my mind no theatre of war as utterly fascinating or as barbaric as that fought out on the Eastern Front. As such CMBB remains my Battlefront favourite. At least.......for now Rob

What I'm looking forward to (coming from CMx1)
MG-42 replied to TexasToast's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
RE PBEM file sizes: I think a lot of people seem to be forgetting the fact that since the CMBO/BB 'golden days', Internet connections for most people, have gotten a heck of a lot faster, and hard drives have gotten a heck of a lot bigger. So yes, bigger PBEM files to deal with maybe, but the technology for most has improved to meet the extra demand. So guess it's all relative. Rob -
43, and yes I've always thought that CM was a game befitting the more refined gentleman (please interpret 'refined' in any way you see fit ). Rob

A lot of old timers coming back
MG-42 replied to Nidan1's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Talking of old timers, hello again, all. I'm sure most of you won't remember me but I live in hope that one or two might. It's been over seven years since I last posted, which certainly shocked me. Like many I slipped away from Combat Mission when its theme turned more modern. A medieval history and archaeology degree later, and a random unexplainable urge to visit battlefront.com a couple of days ago, and viola, I don't think I've been more excited since CMAK was announced. Looking forward to wasting half of my life again, talking to you nuts (I mean that as a term of endearment ), and pushing around Battlefront's little pixeltruppen. The good times are about to restart. Thanks Battlefront! MG -
30 Sturmgeschütz IIIG and ME..
MG-42 replied to AOK. 11's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
Well my friend this is a prime example of someone who wants to win no matter what. </font> I HATE losers who stock up on uber tanks.</font>I HATE losers who put winning before any sense of realism.</font>I HATE losers whose idea of a good battle consists only of using whatever means they can to get one over on their opponent</font>I HATE losers whose sole aim is to win win win and only enjoy the battle if they win......</font> I've been beaten more times then I can count but that means absolutely zip to me....I'd much sooner have the experience of a great battle then a few brownie points on a ladder or competition. Thankfully, through pain and anguish, I now have a strong base of regular opponents who feel the same way I do. I suggest you build up the same kind of opponent pool XI Oh!! and don't give up the day job buddy....how can I put it nicely...emmm...errr....well your poetry SUCKS!!! MG P.S. The STuG IIIG is and always will be my most favourite tank in the history of the universe.....I love 'em (but I certainly wouldn't field that many in a battle) P.P.S. I have a self imposed QB "house rule" now (regardless of whether my opponent wishes to follow the same rule or not). This House rule was actually devised by my dear opponent kenfederoff and consists of taking no more than 2 units (not platoons) of an armoured piece that that is greater then 30% rarity. This works very well for me and, in my expereince, keeps things a little more authentic. -

Hey! That's my camou scheme!
MG-42 replied to MikeyD's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
LoL Certainly looks very much like it. But giving Dragon the benefit of the doubt could they not have plucked the camo scheme from the same original source that you did?? Just a thought and in no way meant to doubt your "claim" MG -

Nice work MikeyD Your obvious effort is much appreciated MG -
My opinion...stick with WW2. It's by far the most engaging era of warfare. Technologically advanced enough to make it highly exciting and interesting but not too technologically advanced that it becomes a dull engagement of distant button pushers i.e. I'm so far away that I can't see you but if I press this little button like so...Kaboom!! Looking for German River Assault Info
MG-42 replied to c3k's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
Hi Ken, A couple of snippets about the river assault along the River Muchaviec against the fortress at Brest-Litovsk (or rather the three bridges leading to it) can be found in the book War Without Garlands - Robert Kershaw - isbn: 0-7110-2734-X Leutnant Kramer (who was in charge of the amphibious assault) had a tragic time of it though. Deploying with 9 boats 4 of them them were lost in seconds as "friendly" artillery landed on them. Continuing on another 2 got shot up from heavy machine gun fire coming from the citadel fortress near the first bridge objective. With the last three boats, and supported by a land force, he did manage to complete his objective of capturing all three bridges intact. Unfortunately, wanting to raise a swastika on the final bridge to show his mission was a success and as a tribute to his fallen men, he was killed with a single bullet in the head from a Russian sniper. Hope that helps. MG -
Da General!! As the originator of the thread enquiring how other people record their matches, I just had to step up and thank you for supplying this program. Very useful. Thanks again for sharing. MG

Thanks to all those who replied since the last time I thanked all those who replied..emmm I think that's right. Anyway some more excellent ideas and ways to record battles...I'm putting them all into a big melting pot and seeing what comes out. Any more systems adopted by any other players?? Regards MG

Hi Buddy, I'm sure your proably aware of this Sevastopol web resource but as there was no mention of it on your website, I thought I'd give you (and anyone else who may be interested) a "heads-up" It's in Russian but can be successfully translated to passable English using Bablefish Underground Sevastopol Keep up the great work MG

@Mr. Dorosh - Awesome love the use of a html table for the battle log. That's given me the inspiration to do something similar (but cunningly disimilar so as not to breech copyright ). Should have guessed you would have gone to this much trouble. Well done and thanks for responding. @Astrocat - Kind of similar to what I do but without the dedicated folder system. Nice idea too. Thanks for responding.

Hey All, I'm playing a lot of battles (both human and AI) mainly in CMAK and CMBB and I'm a bit of a fan of keeping logs of the battles I've played and who I've played against. I currently cover this by mainly taking a snapshot of the AAR at the end of the battle and saving it as a filename that reflects the date and opponent. But being a stickler for order and organization I'm finding this less then satisfactory. So it got me wondering how other people keep a log of their battles (if there is anyone as geeky as me). Or maybe there exists a piece of software that allows one to stores their battle logs electronically. I know there exists ladders and clubs that store battles as I'm in a couple but I'm talking more of a personal system that even allows you to store vs AI battles. So to make my question clearer - how do you/what do you use for keeping a personal log of your battles? Does there exist a custom built piece of software that you use to maintain a log? Many thanks MG

Official (Revised) Strategy Guide Errata Thread
MG-42 replied to wadepm's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
After BFC's stupendous gesture, anyone who feels the need to nit-pick and complain about largely insignificant errors are nothing more then moaning ungrateful B******S!!! and hey if it is an error considered a little more then insignificant then get a bottle of Correction Fluid and fix it yourself..for the love of God!!! What it must be to live a perfect error free life like you guys must do MG-42 P.S. I consider myself to have the patience of a Saint but lack of gratitude and non-recognition of effort really makes me show my teeth  -
Right that's It!! I've had enough...grrrrrrr!!!
MG-42 replied to MG-42's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
Oh My God!!!  I think your right....Nothing has touched the deepest, darkest depths of my inner self like Combat Mission. Only when I am transported to the Eastern Front and completely immersed in the sights and sounds of battle does my pounding heart surge blood through my pulsing veins and make me feel ALIVE. I am destined to spend every day in this living hell, because without Combat Mission there is nothing...an existence devoid of any purpose or meaning. Goddamn you BFC..Goddamn you to Hell!!!!! MG-42
