For purely the starting question, its due to map size. If you want SC2 with more the 'Encircle' feature try one of the mod's with much larger map. Its a Stratic game after all, not tatical as your asking it to be (Sounds like the expasion will be more tactical in nature).
Edit: Also our Star Trek Transporter (Operate) makes large encirclements hard. If units have enough supply you can always zap them out of any trap or tough siuation. Play with Railheads On as something different.

I like this change, more 'real' and thats what I perfer. One the other hand, rockets were not that big a deal. Yes they were overpowered if you let that happen, but for the axis there is a max of 5 (4 german), against rookies I'm sure they are a game winner. I'd say not so much vs someone experanced.

I dont think the MPPs of Axis are that high right now. In time you should be able to grind them down since he will have at least one perhaps two fronts where thier are no rockets.

Yea the movie is good, some of the diologe is too.. soft IE cant hear it well. Then again when I went '300' was playing next door and most of Shooter was 'covered' by the Greeks shouting stupid battle crys.
If you like Spy/Conspiericy movies rent Shooter, if your looking for a love movie... forget it.

Thanks Konigs, I thought you still had me by the guts in Russia... only two corps S of Moscow on the entire map... Urals where wide open with your taking of Vorunezh (till Q units come on). Nice game overall... surprisingly very historical!

Early spring 42 (Apr-June) [Russian diplo hit on Spain]
West: UK raiding corps lands in Frankfurt. It looks like all other citys in western eroupe have corps on them.
Med: Operation 'Back Stab' is a go. Two UK air fly to Sicily, two USA air operate in, UK HQ lands in the city. Tunis corps holds the portage to mainland. German sends in two corps to the Boot and a str 10 Itlian BB Pounds on the corps. Two UK armys & corps (IW3) launch amphaib ships from Libia and are screened by whats left of the RN in the Med. They slip north and land next to Rome after she is hit by 4 air & 2 Carrer attacks. Two armys and one crops destroy the corps in Rome and the second corps takes the capital... Italy throw's down her weapons and robs the Allies blind of rebuilding money.
Middle East: Axis army group pounds the crap out of the Red army units in the Iran MTs.. the retreat turns into a rout with units being operated to the citys north of Iran.
Finland: Slow advance's into the border of Finland (mostly mud).
Len-Mos Front: Units move S and W pushing back axis units but little combat as all the roads are muddy.
Ukriane Front: Clear weather see's five (?) axis air with several ground units destroy a army & fort near Vorunezh. Other axis units advance and hold most of the bend on the Dniper river.

Late Winter 42 (Feb-Mar)
West: Quiet, but USA joins allies
Med: Tunis corps is sent out to find an open port, it quickly note's Sicily is open for invasion. The island is taken and operation 'Back stab' is set in motion.
Middle East: (noted above) USSR DOWs Iran and moves S into the MTs only to find a full german Army group (HT2, AT2, IW3, M1)supported by two Itlian Air fleets already in the Iraq MTs. Full retreat is ordered after a scout corps is lost.
Finland Front: Three low tech corps + one armor with HQ support is battling three fully teched up german corps and one Finish corps & a para unit in the forests N of the Narew river. Its a battle of supply cutting and envelopments. Slowly the Red army wipes out unit after unit with low supply untill they are back on the origianl border.
Leningrad-Moscow Front: Smolensk is abandoned after one army is lost outside the city. The red Army regroups behind he line of forts and swamps for spring. Two HQs, several armys, a few armor an corps are ready to take on the Axis armys.
Ukraniane Front: CNs keep the city of Odessia destroyed. A few units are in or near the citys E of Kharkov (in axis hands). Plans are laid and forts being set but russia is VERY short on men for this front.

Each unit has a ZOC, if there are two ZOC on a square then it costs one extra action point to move into that square. If there are 3 or more ZOC.. no change, IE only costs one extra point ABOVE the cost for terrian AND weather. So say a MT hex with mud and ZOC = 2+1+1 = 4 action points to move into that area.

Alantic: Quiet
West: Quiet
Iraq: UK corps in Baghdad watchs a grey hord advance on it.
North Africa: UK advance's up to a empty central city in Libia.
Russia: Axis army group south moves north and hits Smolensk (now cut off), but the leave a gap in thier line and a Red Army Corp reopens supply with the city, as a bonus one german armored group is cut from supply. German corps have marched from finland to N Russia but held back at the River NE of Leningrad.. so short of troops is russia that a HQ needs to take the front line. Siberian troops operate in and pound on the isolated german para unit. All axis troops have retreated away from Vorunezh.

Late Fall 41 {Diplo hit on Spain 86%}
Middle East/NA: Amman falls then Syeria is next, then several weeks of peace is seen in the ME. Italy rolls out the last of its fleet to try and break Tunis.. and they are sunk. One BB gets away while only one UK ship is sunk, but several take heavy damage. All axis units then run for the hills giving Tripoli and western Libia to the allies without a fight. A raiding axis minor corps is sunk near "The Rock". UK now has a sizable navy + one full army group in Libia.
West: UK bomber focues on Frence mine. UK raiders keep the Axis troops on the Alantic wall busy.
North Sea: In an attempt (cordinated with IT navy) the banged up german fleet trys to break out of the Baltic and runs into a solid line of UK picket ships... second battle of the Jutland begins. After the battle one sub + one CN return to the Baltic.. the RN take major damage but only one ship is sunk. As a side bonus three corps land in Norway and stop ore shipments to Germany.
Balkins: USSR corps lands in Romainia and takes her oil fields; they are help for a few weeks before the unit is destroyed (3 turns).
Alantic: Quiet
Russia: Germany go's all out, units skip Smolensk and push up to Moscow. Para 'jumps' the Leningrad forts and ko's a air fleet to str 1. Seeing weakness Red Army units cut thier supply and begining a battle of attretion with the Axis Northern group. Axis southern group is stalled due to mud... makes a weak hit on Vorunezh. Siberians Transfer.

Early Fall 41 {Diplo hit on Spain 77%}
Middle East/North Africa: Tunis corps continues to hold out vs two It armys while UK troops disembark from transports; these are 'Egyptian' having fled the battle of the Nile.. beat up but experanced. One UK corps holds Amman vs one Germany army... where is the rest of the DAK?
West: UK bomber pounds the French and German mine to low production.
Alantic: Quiet
Finland: Noting three German crops, Red army units operate to more needed areas in Russia. HQ marchs through forset back to Russian teritory and one corps takes a finish fort near Leningrad.
Russia: Minsk falls and units move near Smolensk. Leningrad is attacks by two armys & two air (both countered). A line of three forts now runs for Leningrad to the MTs E of Moscow. Moscow is garisioned by one Armor (from Finland). Vormunezh see's a german corps or two and digs in deaper.
Tech: UK and Germany have shown IW3 by the invasion of Egpyt. USSR was showing IW0 at the start, IW1 by Summer, IW2 by early Fall. UK and Germany have show LG1 at least. Unknown otherwies.

Just short of two years into war and its starting to look like everyone in the world will be involved. Axis powers just dont seam to care for human life and broden thier insanity to all of Eroupe and beyond.
Right now (Auguest?) axis powers control, Poland, Denmark, LC, France (not Vichy), and Yogoslavia. Libia and Egypt minus Amman. Convoys continue to run from Norway and Sweden to Germany. The Baltic Minors joined spring of 41 while Finland was attacked by USSR in summer 41. Russia is looking weak and lost everything East of Kharkov except a cut off army in Minsk. Lengrad is holding and seperating Scandinavia from Eroupe.

Spring 1941
Egypt: Five !! axis air fleets hit the BEF in the fortress, followed up by one Armor and Army reducing it to Str2. An Itlian corps lands on the canal cutting off Iraq from Egpyt. Units of the Itlian navy are seen near Egpyt as well while common welth units finally show up to help UK.
Med: Itlian corps is sunk near Gabralter.
West: UK bomber hits a few ports and gets dinged back.
All else quiet
USSR 38%
USA 39%

Winter 1940
Malta: UK sails in a amphib corps to garison Malta while the Bomber group flys off to UK. The RN after escorting in the corps blockades Libia and ambush's & sinks one BB sent south. They then withdraw lacking air cover.
Middle East: UK corps in El Alendon is reduced to str 1 and operated out. BEF and other units near Truburk damage a CN in port to str 5 then pull back to Egypt; without a chance of taking the fortress before the Africa Corps shows up its best to give ground then take it in the rear!
East: Quiet
Alantic: Quiet

After one year of war we see Germany in control of Poland, France (minus Vichy), and Denmark. UK controls the West side of Libia (minus Trobruk) and Iraq. Neather the german or RN has been seen for some time, the Itlian navy is shelling Malta but getting hit for much worse then its giving. Spain is starting to favor the Axis quite abit (69%) with three !! meetings between Fanco and Hitler in three months (turns).
Fall 1940
Malta: Axis air continue to hit the Malta Bomber, little damage is done but moral is looking low. Four air fleets, one ambhib corps and the entire navy is focused on taking the island.
Middle East: A german Armor group, Army and corps are seen near El Alendon. They use hit and run to damage the corps in the city then retreat for repairs and upgrades (IW2).
Alantic: Quiet
West: Quiet
East: USSR spots the german para unit near Warsaw.

Summer 40 [diplo hit on spain]
France: First weeks in June see's orginized resistance stop in Paris and Vichy becomes a seperate contrany. Note; Denmark falls to axis units in early June as well.
Middle East: Quiet, however several axis units sail into Libia.
Italy: What looks like the entire axis air fleet shows up in Sicily and starts bombing Malta. The UK bomber responds by damageing the port It port S of Malta so that axis units can only enter north africa one at a time.
Alantic: Quiet, UK and German fleets have not been seen for some time.

Spring 40
Middle East: UK bomber flys to Malta while the corps there prepares to land in Libia. Sure enough, Italy enters very soon in the game so the middle city in Libia is open for invasion and UK has a foothold!
France: Mud sets in and both side exchange fire, the French getting the worse of it. No UK troops sail in to aid her ally. Only a lone army sits in paris by Summer.
Alantic: Quiet

Winter 39/40
Middle East: After suffering through several turns of Mud in the desart UK rolls out the big guns and DOWs then takes Iraq. Troops quicly shift back to Egypt as Italy is looking upset.
Alantic: After several turns with Canada joining the german sub is 'heard' from on the egpytian route, quickly he is boxed in and sunk by the RN.
France: Pushed back to the edge of Paris by Dec they hold on with all armys grouped up in the suberbs and facing the might of the german army.
North Sea: After scouting UK see's that the canal and port of Kiel are open. A UK corps is launced to invade... only to have 3 turns of Winter after that. To top it off the troops get confused and land in the wrong squire so they dont seize the port.
(this mislick is going to be costly as basicly the entire French fleet sat and did nothing while the german fleet was 'saved' for another day.)
