  1. Been watching the youtube videos of "The Great War", good stuff.... the war is 100 years + 100 weeks old now. Anyone still coming here to look for players?
  2. Sorry if this is wrong forum, didn't see a support sticky. Experienced a game were a unsupplied(looked like) Russian unit could move from 268,53 to 267,53 thus taking the city by crossing the river with 1 MP. Perhaps not a bug but seamed it should not have been able to advance, rive crossing costing 2 MPs.
  3. Lots of good overall info in this thread. Not just about the title subject however; seams that there is just a overwhelming interest in every early tech. Seams great if both players do it (neutralizes each other) but if some is coming all that MMPs to early tech.. at a time when the game is a mobile one... doesn't the other side get a huge head start.. if played right? Could be my preference for low tech games.. back to SC1. Back then you would always see people way over commit to tech, and the games would end quickly based more off random rolls then anything else.
  4. Wow, lots of people returning after very long breaks from the game! Been well over a year since I played till DK sent me message about a one year old post on this forums... enjoying a very nice game vs him right now. Forgot how fun this can be. Sadly I don't have WW1 Breakthrough.. seams that's what most want. Looking to start another game of SC WW1 The Great War V1.07 if anyone interested.... PBEM Email me at pjflanag@aol.com if interested.
  5. Hello, Back after some time. Seen this bug for some time with SC GW, don't own the other titles. HC I have a file with this example happening a few times in a PBEM game. Can send it if it would help. Seams to happen most often (all the time?) in auto assist. Suggest people be carefull when using it as at times one HQ will support the same units 2 times.. or two HQs will suppot the stame unit. Best to use a mix of Manual, auto and auto assist... and always check your units at the start of each turn.
  6. Looking to play some PBEM of older games. SC 2 Blitzkrieg v1.09 or SC WW1 The Great War - Call to Arms v1.07 I think these are the final versions of each game. Looking for mirror game, I would consider myself a average player. email me at pjflanag@aol.com if interested
  7. It would be cool to use the entire list of senerios provided. That said right now we are at. Finals - Call to Arms? Semi - Fate of Nations? Quarter - (now) .... ???? Ref; its up to you but I guess I'd vote triple alliance now or in the semi. Are there any mini maps we have not used?
  8. 288/58 should push it N and E.. away from the MT.. Guess I could have wrote the wrong numbers down.
  9. Bill, Could you look over the surrender for this minor again. I know from another post it looks like this country will continue to fight on if they have at least 2 units alive and inside her borders. Due to the MTs in the south of the country this becomes a real problem, or assist depending on your view. If the math is X units * .5 = percent of surrneder... it only takes two for 100% Wouldnt .25 make alittle more sence? After losing 3 capitals ect do you really need to destroy all the units in thier military? Map change of road between Serbia - Albaina - Grecce. My understanding is this area had lot of damage from the 1913 balkins war and may of the bridges were not repaired. Because of this the Serbian army retreated through Montengrio - see below - Marshal Putnik ordered a full retreat, south and west through Montenegro and into Albania. The weather was terrible, the roads poor, and the army had to help the tens of thousands of civilians who retreated with them with almost no supplies or food left. But the bad weather and poor roads worked for the refugees as well, as the Central Powers forces could not press them hard enough, and so they evaded capture. Many of the fleeing soldiers and civilians did not make it to the coast, though - they were lost to hunger, disease, attacks by enemy forces and Albanian tribal bands. The circumstances of the retreat were disastrous, and all told, some 155,000 Serbs, mostly soldiers, reached the coast of the Adriatic Sea, and embarked on Allied transport ships that carried the army to various Greek islands (many to Corfu) before being sent to Salonika. The survivors were so weakened that thousands of them died from sheer exhaustion in the weeks after their rescue. Marshal Putnik had to be carried during the whole retreat and he died a bit more than a year later in a hospital in France. If players want to retreat back to that last capital they can still get thier troops to albiana if they FORCE MARCH them over the MTs. The only thing a road will aid is the retreat of the HQs.... that doesnt seam histoical as this army had nothing once they got to the greek islands... UK had to supply and retain them some close to a year.... IE no HQ.
  10. Has anyone every taken this area of AH by the Russians in the early part of the war? Aside from perhaps facing someone in there first game of PvP I cant invision this area falling to the Russians. Now I'm all for player decisions, I dont feel we should be forced into following history exactly (sadly some decision events ect force this) but this area seams way out of wack. Starting with the Fortress of Lemberg Lemberg, Battles of In World War I, fighting between Austrian and Russian forces 1914–15 around the fortress town of Lemberg in Galicia (now Lviv, Ukraine). The Russians were driven out of the area by German forces June 1915 and it remained in German hands for the remainder of the war. The Austrian army fell back to Lemberg when defeated by the Russians at Sokal August 1914. Three Austrian armies were advancing east to do battle; the 2nd was based on Lemberg, the 1st was about 15 km/9 mi south of Lemberg, and the 3rd was in southwest Poland. The Russians mustered four armies and when the 2nd Austrian advanced, the Russians, under General Alexei Brusilov and General Nikolai Russky, almost encircled it and completely defeated it, while effectively keeping the other two Austrian armies at bay. This defeat led what was left of the 2nd Army to retire and abandon Lemberg to the Russians. When does this every happen? A few thoughts: Move the fortress hex from 287/57 to 288/58. This would make it more a frontier fortress and it would recive less support from the other key areas south and west of its current location. AH was horibally unprepared for war yet with each patch it seams they get stronger... they have added 2 detatchments since 1.01. They were the last great power to start mobizing and had the poorest planning for war of all the great powers. Eather pull 2(?) corps off the board and delay them a few turns or reset them to each capital appearing one turn after the start. Granted this will not stop the CP from operating in a few units from germany early on if they wish but thats a players decision... and they might not get for into France if they do.
  11. Should we be seeing a new patch soon, late this summer?
  12. I've seen str 12 arty with HQ support absoulty destroy an offensive due to defensive fire. However I wounder how much does the terain that the attacking unit sits on effects the results.
  13. Wow nice catch but you deb's might want to blank the above.. easy exploited.
  14. Lol.. I live in MN ... I'll have to ask gramps if they were ready to fight in the deep woods to repeal invaders.
  15. Can anyone tell me where partisans appear? Only Arabia and Serbia right? What tiles?
  16. Just to clarify: A minor with only two unit left will fight on clever after the capital(s) have fallen in v1.04?
  17. My bad. I play mirror games so one 'turn'and is in truth two.. one for each side. I did time a 'turn'.. came out at 28 and 31 minutes.
  18. The games are good; they have a feeling of the old board games 'gunsI of ancestors or The Third Riech'. AI play is enjoyable but p v p is where the game really shines. PBEM games can be long however; one hour per turn with with games lasting 50-100 turns is realistic.realistic
  19. In comming..... WALL OF TEXT I'm not sure how this deals with the OP question. But as a side note I think if we all were to check we would find that in WW1 italian troops fought 'under' conditions that were very tough and gave an exellent accounting of themselfs. From what I have read the closest compariason would be Russian troops in WW2. And I dont think anyone faults them, afterall they really won the war. Perhaps the HQs are too good for italy, but they do start at str 5.. right? That aside, I'm not sure what exactly the OP is looking for on this post with 12 (?) pages. I have not read all 12, but parts here and there, I'm sure I will sound or come off poorly here.... sorry about that but I just not sure what to think of this whole thread. Note that whatever I say here, its based sadly on a very low number of games played vs people, and none have gone 'deap' IE i have only once come close to the end game. Normally that would mean that decisions on such low population data is at best a good guess. First what kind of game is this and its style of play: A long time ago in a... wrong opening.. too much SW TOR. Anyway back during SC 1 several long threads where written about what kind of game SC was... the end decision was a 'Beer and Nuts' game. One where the play vs AI was fun, one you could site down with ANY friend and play Hot Seat/IP/PBEM. As SC has aged its clearly moved away from this as it has layers and layers of rules and condisions. IE in the past a person with 20% knowlage of the game + history playing someone with 70% of the game and history might win, or at least take it close to the end depending on randon 'events'. But as we asked for more 'toys' (and I'm happy we got them) the guy with less experance lasted a shorter amout of time. So how can we balance the game, this game? I'm sorry but thats very hard, because we normally dont make the same mistakes made during WW1 that they made, and due to the level of complexity a person at 48% skill will normally lose handly to someone at say.. 55% skill. I'll try to cover this more latter. Second the style of play; I think that most of the play is PvsAI.. many of us hard core are asking for this and that, but how will it effect AI play? Now I want to see improved PvP but I dont want to try things against the AI and find myself watching 'thinking' for one hour per turn. I would say Historically WW 1 walked a knifes edge for close to 4 years before ending. I think with todays engine you would have to have very very closely skilled players to achive that event. This is because we are given two condisions and HC/BF is trying to balance them. HISTORICAL TRUTH vs PLAYERS DECISIONS Five, hopefully, short notes and I'll be off to drink beer and play pool. Itilian units: The game starts Italy with str 5 HQs, now if they were to stay that way we might see events unfold closer to history. Italy did ok during most of the war but failed in 1917 when german troops showed up in high numbers. However in most games I think getting Itlian HQs to str 10 is in the top three of objectives. Its a players decision not to follow history. Bulgeria's Entry: There seams to be some question that its not historical, or too soon/late enough. If your not investing 4 chits, forget getting it early / historical. Bulgeria was highly woo'ed by both sides; its a players decision if he wants to try and influance Bulgeria. I dont want an exact historial event, if so then remove all diplo chit use from the game. MTs: This I can see as a balance of play issue - it looks like its getting beta tested and we might see some changes here. Montanegrio: Posts above say its too hard to take. I feel this is a players decision, put the units into the location and it will fall. Historically AH didnt go for the county till after Serbia fell, it then send in a 500 gun barge, 35+K troops, 10K 'axualliry' troops and General Staff support. In game terms thats 2 corps, 1 DT, 1 HQ and eather a DN BB or 1 HA unit. Historically it took something like 7 days to force surrender, if you use that much power it should fall in 1 turn, depending if you need the DN BB to push supply to 0 or not. Germans garison Eastern Eroupe: Historically Ger left over one millon men in eastern eroupe after russia fell. These were not all combat troops, a low % I would think but still troops not used in the 1918 push. The game, in time allows you to send all your troops west. I dont have enough experiance to guess whats best however it seams at this point you have a compounding interest problem. If the CP has been slowing gaining an advantage now is when you see it explode (as it should), if both sides are close to even they stay close to even as the USA should be entering VERY soon, if the ET as been slowing gaining ground then the loss of Russia is just the last gasp of the CP. One overall starting play balance issue, and thus not effect by players decisions is AH.... she simply starts WAY too strong. Historically she could not take Belgrade quickly (in game its almost always falls in 3 turns), she couldnt hold onto her polish lands (I have never seen the two NO fall to Russia), she was a dead corpse pulling Germany down (in Game shes a power house with a few tech hits). Yea, lots of poor grammer ect.... I"m off to drink beer!
  20. The starting time line was 60not days.... how many are left?
