easytarget got a reaction from 37mm in Video Software to Record CM
If you've got an nvidia card download the free Nvidia Experience and check out ShadowPlay.  Makes a good video and you can downsize the files using movie maker (free program /w win 7, i assume it's in 10 as well).
Nice thing about ShadowPlay besides the fact it works seamlessly is it has an option to record the last 5 minutes with the push of a button, so you don't have to leave it running if you don't want to, just hit ALT-F10 whenever something cool happened and viola, the last 5 minutes is sitting there waiting for you as a file.

This is why I just stopped in as well.  Got a friend that wants to buy this and play live turn based.  Looks like I'll stop back by 3 or 4 years from now.

2.5 years old and bumping this up. I come in occasionally to see what might be happening with multiplayer modes.
Is the 3rd gen engine in design? Will TCP Wego with rewind and replay - or something even better - make it to the design stage? I would return to CM if my opponents and I could meet up online, play tcp and be able to make effective use of Wego and replay. CM was never an arcade game for me - and strategy requires at least a bit of space for brain think...…...

    Hi,

This is already the case.. to some extent..

You probably do know this but just to explain what I am getting at.

If you build/paint a setup area for Group 3 say in the AI editor for Allied forces..  you paint it along the edge of a village in Belorussia, 300m long and 20m wide. In the unit editor you have assigned to Group 3 one infantry platoon, one 76mm ATG, one 45mm ATG, one tank hunter section and two snipers..  But you do not place them in the setup area on the deploy map. You just don’t deploy any of the Soviet units. All are assigned as with the units for Group 3.. a setup area in the AI editor is painted on, and units in the units editor assigned to that Group.

Then you pick the German units you wish to play with in the game and place them in their setup areas using the deploy map.

When you launch the game to play it, the Soviet units in say Group 3 above will be semi-randomly placed along the 300m by 20m village edge. Randomly but quite cleverly in fact. It is normally not too stupid. You will not know where the ATGs are to give an example.

This is my favourite way to play CMX2 .

I take QB maps and move them to the Scenarios folder, then build ultra flexible “QBs..” using the above technique in the normal editor.

    If you follow me.. .

Not easy, and very confusing if not familiar with CMX2 editors.. but for those who are.. very quick way of building ultra flexible QBs.

    All very good fun,
We are lucky to have CM at all..
    All the best,
    Kip.

Why do I get the feeling there's some BFC staff face palming right now if they're reading this. (Assuming it's not sarcasm )

I really hope they start going back into the mid->early war years once 1945 is done and dusted. Flipping it around to when the Germans had the overall stategic advantage to launch large offensives and the like would spice up the CM WW2 series with very different challengers for the players.

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2179136/

Most spend 12.50 to watch the newly released Clint Eastwood movie, American Sniper.  Allow me to set the stage.  First, I always eat something yummy, yet small before entering a theater.  Went for Sushi by the theater.  Second, I rarely pay for any movie, either get free passes, or just walk by the skinny high school ticket grabbers; you really think some kid is going to ask for a ticket?  This keeps my expenses down.  Finally, I don't drink soda & lay off popcorn, so I take a couple tall boy beers inside.  Always cracked your cans during "loud" scenes", only take sips or chugs during the darkened parts of the movie, and sit in private area.  In this case, the place was packed, so we (friend & I) choose to sit near some hillbillies that would care if a cans were tipped.

    Now to the movie......

Starts off in the USA, as a young Chris Kyle wants to join the Navy Seals.  He is strong & able to handle the stress & challenges of boot camp.  He quickly chooses to be a sniper & does quite well.  He's single at the time, until he meets a nice gal at the bar, has some shots of booze, yada-yada, they get married, his new wife is knocked up.

Chris & his wife watch the horrific events of 911.  Believing that he needs to protect the country, his is more than ready for combat to invade Iraq or whatever country their in.  There's no reference to Building #7, so conspiracy ppl, the war is over in the Middle East.

Chris starts off firing away on all kinds of dudes.....those carrying RPGs, machine guns, bombs, whatever....enemy units driving suicide cars, etc.  Chris just plugs them.  The combat scenes are great!  Head shots, body shots, etc.  It's not as intense as Band of Brothers in my opinion, but much, much better than Enemy of the Gates of Vasile vs Ed Harris.

Throughout his combat, Chris is on the phone with his much worried wife.  The usual military wife/husband conversations occur about the stresses of life.  The dude (Chris) is blasted dudes while talking to his wife who is state-side.

I don't want to be a spoiler so let me just give my opinion about the movie.

    1)  It's more of a docu-drama combat film, than a movie.  Personally, it's a little dry because it's TOO ACCURATE!!!  I prefer one-liners, smack talk, and entertainment.  It is a docu-drama.
    2)  Combat scense should have been more intense!  I'm not looking for heads being logged off or another, but there's zero smack talk!  (See my favorite sniper, Barry White in Saving Private Ryan quoting bible verses as he fires away)
    3)  Movie is a tad long.  It's reeling the same material over & over again.  I'm sure that keeps it accurate, but not necessarily entertainment.

Bottom line, the movie is AWESOME.  Glad I saw it.  But it's more of a docu-drama than a movie.  I prefer smack talk out of Clint (Dirty Harry, Grand Turino, Outlaw Josey).

Rating:  8 of 10 for a single watching
Rating:  6 of 10 for repeat watching.

    Sincerely,
    -Legend

Please consider every visual aspect as placeholder for the real designs which follow later. Also many featured buttons arent created yet - they will be created when the specific featured will be coded.

In my opinion the game engine is forcing into much reduced visual distance capability for all units for simulation reasons. Given also a random factor that will most probably be there I'd say the game engine is doing a good job in lowering visual distance capability of units given the scenario setting and time.

In conclusion I see no bugs or problems here but a precise game design feature, that is aimed to simulate the conditions.

We could discuss all day long on what our own opinions are, and if a vehicle could be spotted at 100m of distance we would have a forum complain about it being not realistic enough, but all of this doesn't change the fact that the game design is there for the above reason and it is doing its job.

Given the actual development of the game I belive this is fine with what the engine rendering capabilities are.

    element of chance or unpredictability

The editor allows for 5 separate AI plans per battle These are randomly executed depending on the designers settings. The TACAI delivers somewhat
unpredictable fire results and movement. Indirect artillery and air support are not 100% predictable as well. LOS/LOF are difficult to master and while predictable offer a lot of surprises. One thing to try is to play a battle where you only give orders every 3 or so turns and let the AI try to carry out your
intentions. Another thing to try - which can be wild - is to play a battle only from ground level. Take a screenshot of the map at the beginning and try to keep the angle of view down low. (No level 2 buildings). We used to game this way back in CM1x now and then.

Not sure where you would like to see more chance/unpredictability but these are my thoughts.

Your answer explains well.  It seems we have very different tastes in this regard.    I did not like "Apocolypse Now" either!
For me the "art" in these films distorted reality to dishonest outcomes.  The novels I prefer must tell well a (philosophical) truth in their (nonfiction) lie.   I couldn't sympathize with the "truths" these characters portrayed.  Thank you for your articulate and thoughtful response.

I really don't get this whole thing about voting on posts. What's next? An on-camera interview in ball gowns in which we'll all answer "world peace" so that people will support our posts? I have enough to deal with just getting the actual posts coherent and out.

Is it possible to download a list of what is currently available at the repository?

I find it a bit of a challenge to run through what's available in the current format and thought perhaps one easy solution would to have a download option that just dumped a list (with whatever parameters are contained about them of course in the database) to say an excel file?

That way you could more easily sort it to see what might be of interest.  I sort of currently have to know what I'm looking for, in which case the search feature works just fine, otherwise I just scroll down the pages seeing a handful and then going on to the next page.  Feels like I'm missing some possible gems and the hard work of the folks that made them might be for naught as their scenarios are lost in the shuffle which would be a shame.
