As usual the anti-Brexit crowd are unable to debate without slinging insults. Brexiteers were stupid, or old, or manipulated, or didn't know what they were voting for and should be asked to vote again once they clever people have explained it to them. This is not debate so I'm off.

Wow, just read this. As a Brit who voted for Brexit, I think maybe Steve should stick to military matters as this is pretty insulting and frankly bat **** crazy. My reason for voting Brexit, for the record, is that I believe in democracy and the EU is profoundly undemocratic. We got rid of a king in the 1600s because he was overruling our parliament. The EU over the passed decades has imposed thousands of laws on the UK we had to accept by treaty obligation. It was always about democracy and sovereignty for me and many others, not stupidity, irrationality, or Russian manipulation.

I doubt a 60+ resident of a Northeast coastal town whose economy was devastated by EU fishing quotas cares a damn what Putin thinks, if they even use social media. The idea that Russia caused Brexit is pretty ridiculous.

If Russia really has lost now, as Steve has suggested, isn't there a danger Putin switches to chemical and  nuclear weapons?

Quite a few Media reports talk about the Ukrainians repulsing Russian attacks on Kyiv and Kharkiv but I find them a bit disingenuous as the Russian forces repulsed appear to be just small reconnaissance units. I don't think the Russians have even started the main assault on these cities yet. A 12 km long convey of armour heading towards Kyiv has been spotted by satellite and this would appear to be the main assault force.

Just to reiterate, as if it was needed, that I totally condemn what Russia has done, I do find we are already seeing Western Media bias in the way it is being reported. I've seen captured Russian soldiers being paraded before the cameras and asked why they are there, which breaches the Geneva Convention, without so much as a peep out of the Media. When the same thing happened to Western servicemen in Iraq, their ill-treatment was headline news.

It may be a bit crass to mention but I wrote a scenario called "Neighbours From Hell" ages ago that you can still find on the internet if you search for it. The scenario is particularly topical now as it features a Separatist attack on a Ukraine-held village with Russian Spetsnaz assistance in the opening hours of the invasion. We are wargamers so hopefully nobody takes offense.

I finally got a Ukrainian Surrender in this mission but I didn't have any ATGM assets to achieve this (perhaps a different version of this campaign?). In the end, I did something a bit unorthodox. I sent my tanks forward, first cautiously using cover. They came under fire but their "Arena" APS managed to defeat most incoming rounds/missiles and I only lost one. Seeing how effective the APS was I decided to take some more risks, reversing them out of cover and then advancing into the open on the main road towards the enemy held town. Again, they did well, losing one more tank but destroying enemy positions that revealed themselves. Given how well they were doing I decided to go all out and had all my infantry mount up and ordered their IFVs to join the tanks to form a huge mass of armour on the road. I then dismounted the infantry in plain view of the enemy and had every unit, vehicles and dismounts, advance. The enemy went nuts, opening up on the infantry from every firing position. This revealed all of their positions and my T-72s and BMP-3s decimated them with return fire HE. As the mass of troops and armour reached the outskirts of the town my Hind helicopters came on station and started reeking havoc on the enemy. The Ukrainians soon surrendered, leaving me with a total victory and around 25 dead and 25 wounded (rough figures) plus 3 tanks lost and about 5 IFVs (I'd already lost 2 before this "reckless" advance). On the whole I think it was effective, if bloody, and I'm tempted to be more aggressive with T-72s equipped with "Arena" APS in the future.

I have played "Direction Found" many times and really enjoy it. I even found it quite fun playing as the Americans - the AI-controlled Russians wiped me out!
Are there any fan-made small/tiny scenarios like this?

The opportunities for this are endless. Foot patrols in South Armagh. Mercenaries in Africa. Falklands War. All doable if we have late 70s, early 80s British Commonwealth equipment.

I'm not going to trawl through the entire thread in case this has already been mentioned but, as much as I'd like to see the BAOR (British) in the game, I have to recognise that it would have played a very small part in a hypothetical Fulda Gap battle. I remember playing the old SPI board game, "Fulda Gap: The First Battle of the Next War", and seeing just how small a force the BAOR was in comparison to the other NATO counters on the map.

OK, well, it seems I am mistaken. I created a very simple scenario in the editor - completely flat and barren landscape, two US Humvees, 1 UNCON IED spotter with various IEDs along the road - and the spotter detonated the IEDs just fine. I now believe some scenarios may have the spotter badly positioned with no LOS to the IEDs.

Played it today. Awesome scenario! It felt like the script for a movie. No spoilers but I had some great fun with this one when one of my vehicle drivers panicked, dismounted the vehicle and basically ran away across a field. I had my platoon leader leg it after him and he eventually rallied but it was a bizarre moment. Like other posters I ran out of time and had to rush at the end, with the inevitable adverse effect on my final score, but in fairness the delay could have been avoided had I not become obsessed with collecting all my wounded, which resulted in an entire squad being pinned down for ages despite my placement of a BTR70 right in front of them to act as a shield. It was only when the QRF platoon arrived that I got out of that mess. Lovingly crafted and highly recommended scenario.
