  1. Hmmm... Not sure what the deal is but its working now. I reinstalled the sound drivers again and ran a dxdiag test on the sound and all is well again. Cool. Now on to some death and destruction...(with the almighty kaboom!!!)
  2. I've been having a problem with no sound at all since I've been using a new laptop. All other games and apps work fine except for SC. I've tried editing the SC.ini file and used both 0 and 1 for the sound interupt and this doesn't help. The laptop is a Compaq EVO N1000C with a SoundMax Integrated Digital Audio card. Any ideas or suggestions?
  3. Sorry, I haven't had much chance to do much lately. I just got out of the hospital again... You'd think a 37 year old shouldn't be having heart surgery... I can send you what I have which is only the tanks and fighters for US and USSR though. Not sure if I'll be getting too much stuff done for a while. I feel like I've been punched in the ribs by Jackie Chan about a hundred times... I think I still have your email address so I will try and shot you the file tommorrow. I did finally get a look at Logan's graphics and they are very cool. I especially like the MLRS units for the rockets.
  4. Narayan, I got it! It looks great. You must of put a lot of time into naming all of those units!!! I always have an easier time with modern war units then WWII since I've read more books about modern-era warfare. Ever read any books by Harold Coyle? Great author on modern warfare. His first book is a must and was rumored to be used by US military trainers. It was called Team Yankee and GDW made a board game out of it which I think I still have somewhere... Anyhow, I've been trying to get some turns in but I can't get the sound to work on the new laptop... I've tried the SC.ini file trick but that didn't work... I did run through the first turn and it was about what you would imagine the start of WWIII in Europe would have been like. Soviet armies smashing through thin NATO lines. I really need to play it out some to see how NATO rallies with its reinforcements from the US. I'll let you know how it goes if I get a chance to get in a few turns. I'm still playing around with the unit graphics and decided to make the army units into mechanized infantry with M113's for US and BMP's for Russia. Here's a small screenshot:
  5. Narayan, Still didn't get the email... Did you send it to MaxVertigo@yahoo.com I will see if I can change the bomber to a flat solid color graphic. It's too bad that the icon sizes are so small. Makes things somewhat limited to what can be done. Maybe SC2 will have larger bitmaps for the icons???
  6. Narayan, Were you able to send the CWG campaign yet??? Didn't know if you had a chance to send it. Just wanted to check.
  7. Could the Italians have been used for the Warsaw Pact instead of the Germans? Would be nice to have the Germans on the NATO side seeing that its their country thats being invaded.
  8. I started playing around with some units today. Let me know what you think. I just started so it may take some time. I left a comparison of the original German units with the modern mod US and Russian units.
  9. I imagine that there is quite a bit of implied strength for NATO. Much of which should come from reforger (Return of FORces GERmany) units deploying to pre-positioned equipment throughout Germany. This, I assume, will come from lots of MPP's for NATO at the start of the game. The first turn will surely be a crusher for the Warsaw Pact...
  10. Narayan, I haven't played for a while but after seeing your screenshot I was amazed that such a modified scenario could be made with SC. I'd love to get ahold of your scenario and give it a try. You can email me at maxvertigo@yahoo.com This has all of the things that I've been wanting to find in a game for years!!! It brings me back to all the old Tom Clancy and Larry Bond books! Can't wait to give it a try....
  11. Damn, And here I thought it was supposed to be that way. Just thought it was there so the Russians could reinforce it if they wanted to spend the money without having to buy one at a higher cost. Guess I'll edit this unit for the campaign.
  12. Buy it, Buy it, Buy it!!! I downloaded the demo and bought it the next day. It's the best game to come out in a long time. As a bonus you support Hubert and his team as they develop SC2 and who knows what other great games they may make in the future. The biggest advantage over the demo is being able to fully drive the German war machine through the Russian plains!!! Or being able to mass inpenetrable defences to block the road to Moscow. I think the demo that Fury software has provided is excellent and really lets you know how the game plays. The full version just makes it all complete. Plus you can only do PBEM and the campaign editor with the full version as well. Don't bother with Hearts of Iron. It sucks! Unless of course you like the idea of micro-management hell! If you want a great WWII RTS game check out Sudden Strike 2. Strategic Command rating - 11 out of 10!!!!!
  13. It's amazing what you can do against the computer. I've done all kinds of crazy things like that. If you try it against a human opponent then figure on a very short game with the allies totally wiping out Italy very early in the game. One question is how are you getting past Gibraltar??? Is the computer giving it up in your games? Without Gibraltar you can't move ships through the straits. Even better then going after America is to try getting Vichy France and Spain with Italy. This gives the Italians enough money to be an effective power. Guess another good question is what campaign are you playing, 39' or 41'? Always good to push the envelope though. I keep trying to think of a strategy for crossing the pond and taking the battle to the Americans.
  14. German units within 3 spaces of Moscow trigger the Siberian reinforcements. I am playing a PBEM game against a friend right now and left a nice inviting hole to draw him to Moscow. Siberian reinforcements arrived in August of 41'!!! I believe there is some other triggers but I'm not sure what exactly they are. There also seems to be a difference in the amount of reinforcements received based on the number of units the Russians have.
  15. Only thing else I can think of is to download any latest sound drivers and maybe try to edit the SC.ini file and change sound interupt=1 instead of 0. This seems to resolve a lot of sound issues.
  16. Man, what is that name from.... Gaylord Focker. Meet the Parents???? There's something about Mary??? Its driving me nuts. Funny ass name though. Almost forgot to recommend buying this game. It's great!!! nuff said. [ December 17, 2002, 11:31 PM: Message edited by: Der Panzinator ]
  17. Hubert, Just wondering if you would ever change the save file name option to automatically populate the name with the current saved name. Okay maybe I should try that again. Say for example I save a game and call it save1. Then I play some more turns and need to save it again but it doesn't come back with save1 but with the default 194x_x_x (you get the idea). Not a biggie but just something that would be nice if it would remember what I saved my current game as so you don't have to type it in every time. Plus maybe a browse would be nice too. Not a big deal. This is probably something that you may decide to change with SC2 anyway.
  18. PTAMagician, Sounds like you have some file types and extensions blocked from viewing. The file you need to edit should look like a text notepad with a little yellow gear symbol on it. If you don't see this file you may need to open windows explorer and goto tools > Folder options then click the view tab and uncheck "hide file extensions for known file types" then click apply. This should allow you to see the SC.ini file. You might also need to uncheck the "show hidden files and folders" although the .ini files shouldn't be hidden. 19. One thing that you can verify is that the sound files exist. Go to c:\program files\Strategic Command\Sound There should be 55 files totalling 32 megs. Try playing one of the files to make sure it sounds right. Also make sure that the path above is spelled exactly correct. If your Sound directory name was changed to Sounds for example then the game won't be able to find these files. If these things are all correct then you may want to completely uninstall the game and re-install. Hope this helps.
  20. Just thought I'd add the response that you can't make individual leader icons. The graphics file and game engine only support one HQ image to work with. This may be another SC2 possibility though.
  21. jmbunnelle, Wasn't even thinking. I hope I didn't cause any confusion with the screenshot I posted earlier. Afterwards I was looking back and I didn't want to muddle up your thread with other graphic mods so I edited it out. Sorry about that.
  22. Check out the cities and capitals that I've been toying with. I haven't quite finished them yet but it makes them look like more then just factories. If you notice I am already using your unit icons. Except for the German tanks which I've changed around some. Thanks for providing everyone with these cool enhancements. Maybe Hubert will use some of your graphics in SC2. The new stuff is looking good. Can't wait to add them to my games! [ December 14, 2002, 02:41 AM: Message edited by: Der Panzinator ]
  23. Oh yeah. I forgot to mention. I thought it was kinda interesting that the name I have been using for my world map is WWII: Supreme Command. I believe that is what caught my attention to your game when I first saw it.
  24. Hubert, Thanks for the very informative reply. Sounds like you really enjoy doing what you do. It's great that you not only provide tremendous support for your game but that you are also willing to respond with great detail to questions such as mine. I downloaded the free basic version of Eiffel shortly after buying your game. Haven't had a lot of time to dig into it but it looked like a good solid program. I'll have to go through some of the open source to see how things look. At first I didn't realize that the whole page was your code. I'll try to find some time to look at some of it tonight. Luckily, I don't have any delusions of being able to program a massive wargame overnight. I will likely start with a few small simple games just to get the basics of how things work like you suggested and about anyone who has programmed will likely suggest as well. I really wish that I would have gotten into some more programming but have never really needed to do so. The one thing in my favor is that I deal with a lot of high-level computer and telecom stuff at work all day and pick up on things rather quickly. This programming thing is just still a whole different world for me. One other question for now: Is it easier to make a game based on a hex-grid system or irregular spaces? I would think that hex based would be easier to work with since it is based on symetrical spaces that are probably easier to program. I have been trying to figure out how you could possibly program odd shaped graphics into a program so that it recognizes where they are on the map. It's done all the time so there must be some trick to taking the map pieces and putting them together and redrawing the screen as things are moved. Just seems like you would almost have to take all the polygon dimensions and actually program them in for every space. Seems a bit insane but its probably the only way. Here is a link to my website which has some maps that I've been working on. Axisdomain I have compiled the Europe map into a program called Mapview. It is used for PBEM games and there are quite a few people play-testing it at the AAEuropeMC site. The world map is the one that I have visions of making a computer game out of. It is made from scratch so I won't have to worry about copyrights. It is almost too big to print out into a board game so I plan on doing a PBEM version with Mapview and then maybe in a few years can turn it into a computer game. Thanks again Hubert for the response. I have been having some great PBEM games with a friend and have been thoroughly enjoying your game!
  25. Make sure that the version number in the lower right hand corner of the start up screen says v1.06 for both you and your opponent. You may want to move any old game files into a back up directory and leave the PBEM directory totally empty before you start a new game. If you do both of these things then you should be okay.
