  1. I used it once very succesfully, playing Axis Intermediate +1. I kept most of my army in Russia, but kept a few Air Fleets and Rockets in France. Used the Air Fleets to cover my subs and Rockets. Kept pounding London every single turn. Xed a few infantry units in London until the AI decided to live London empty. By then Russia was very weak. As soon as I eliminated Russia I prepared to invade England as follows: With my rockets I forced the AI to keep infantry units off the south coast of England. With my Airfleets (Jet5 and a 4 bars von Manstein) I eliminated al HQ's and Airfleets within range. Finally I invaded. The Brits could not spt my invasion force until it landed. It then moved its infantry south, but had no entrechment. My rockets pounded any army comming to attack my beach head. It worked out well. I later tried invading England without rockets, Expert +2 and had a very rough going.
  2. I would like to see more restictions on spotting. Right now, an infantry army can see a an army two hexes away, even if there is a continuous line of enemy ground units in between. Is this realistic? A plane can fly over enemy units and look at what is behind. But, tanks and infantry can not. I would not allow ground units to spot over enemy ground units. I would not apply this restriction to air and naval units.
  3. I agree with your concern. It is too easy and too cheap to reinforce. I have a couple of ideas on this point: a. Limit how quickly a badly battered army can reinforce. I t is on thing to reinforce an army thatis down to 8 point back to 11. It is another thing to reinforce an army that is down to 2 all the way up to 12. ...it is quite a thing to do this in one week. I would limit to 4 stregh points the amount of reinforcements a unit can receive in one single turn regardless of whether that unit is adjacent to an enemy. I would further limit reinforcement if the unit is in mountain or swamp hexes. And still further if adjacent to an enemy. b. I would create three Replacement Pools: Air, Naval, and Ground. A player would have to buy replacements in advance for later use. Replacements could not be used in the very same turn they are bought, but instead credited to their Replacement Pool for use in a subsequent turn.
  4. I would allow advance after combat only if the defending unit was completely destroyed. Also, I would limit advance after combat only to the hex occupied by the defending unit. Finally, I would make it easier for tanks and harder for slow moving infantry armies to advance after combat. Here are some alternatives: Alternative 1. Only allow tanks to move advance after combat. Alternative 2. If the unit moved before combat, it most have at least to movement points left in order to advance after combat. Because tanks move the furthest, they will more often be able to advance after combat. Slow moving Inf. Armies would have to be very close to target in order to advance after combat. Alternative 3. (My favorite.) Combine option 2 above, plus, if the atacker is a tank, and has more than two movement points left, it may occupy the defending hex at the movement cost applicable to that hex +1 and then be allowed to move the remaining movement allowance. ...I think Tank Groups should be something more than just superstrong armies.
  5. Regarding Reinforcement Rates I also have some trouble with the rate at which you can rebuild a unit. Regardless of whether a unit is adjacent or away from enemy units, I am troubled by the idea of instant reinforcements. Say I am the Axis player, I have a German Infantry Army all the way in the Urals, and, provided proper supply routes I can reinforce it as much as I want instantly? If the Army had been decimated from 12 to 2, I can send a quarter of a million men to reinforce it all the way from Germany within a week. And all these men will be integrated into their fighting units and take fully entrenched fighting possition immediately? Even if the game units represent very large armies and distances, and specially because we have such very large armies and distances, something should be worked out. Even if a unit is not adjacent to an enemy unit, a max reinforcement of four strength points should be impossed. I would also agree that units adjacent to enemy units should be further hindered.
  6. Re SC on other machines You can also play it on Mac using Connectrix's Virtual PC.
  7. Regarding transport around the Horn... Britain can buy new units in Egypt ...and can reinforce units stationed in Egypt even if Axis occupy Malta and Gibraltar.
  8. Are we confusing Hittler's achivements with those of Germany's high command? This is NOT meant to be a controversial topic--please do not turn it into one. My people were (I consider) the greatest enemies of Nazi Germany and its leader Hitler. Our triumph over him will forever be one of our people's greatest achievements. However, that being said, I must admit that Hitler's military achievements up to 1941 were absolutely stunning. How was he able to achieve so much in so little time? It was amazing at the time and still is today. Specifically, I wonder if anyone can keep up to Hitler's successful military record in the main computer or board wargames. For example, playing SC on a fair setting vs. the computer (hard difficulty, bonus to Allies), don't most of you have trouble matching Hitler's achievements? For example, can you always take Poland in September 39 or does it sometimes take a bit longer? The biggest one is France--what a military miracle to destroy it in May-June 1940. How many times can you or I get that done? For me, not often. And even if you do match the Hitler record for military progress in the early part of the war, you must surely admit that this is a feat, that it represents not the average or median result but an extreme end of the spectrum of possibilities. Put in another way, could anybody have done any better than Hitler during that time period strictly in terms of military progress. My opinion is "very probably not". If you can do it better or faster than Hitler was able to, then please share your gameplaying secrets with us.
