  1. As far as I'm concerned, recon troops can identify vehicles much better than regular infantry. But that's just me.
  2. No one said that the Tigers destroyed that many Allied tanks in Normandy. It just states that for every destroyed Tiger, there were 33 destroyed Allied tanks destroyed by Tigers. I can easily imagine the excess tanks destroyed in late 1942 - late 1943, when Tiger tanks were absolute kings of the battlefield. Particularly in the North Africa, Russian Front and Sicily. -Panzerjaeger-
  3. Well, my name comes from my profession as a soldier. It has nothing to do with WW2. Now that is cleared out shall we get back to Armoured Infantry tactics?
  4. Actually, your name suggests an anti-tank unit. Panzerabwehr (Tank defence) units were renamed Panzerjäger (Tank hunter) units about midway through the war. The term was officially applied to formed anti-tank units at regimental or divisional level and equipped either with towed anti-tank guns (PaK) or self-propelled weapons such as the Marder II. The term has nothing to do with armoured infantry, as even regular infantry regiments and divisions had Panzerjäger units under command. </font>
  5. As my name suggests, I have an unnatural bond with armoured Infantry. Here´s how I use them. 1.) Flanking moves: Halftracks are pretty useful in covering long distances with speed. They can be used to a great effect when flanking enemy, or even attacking them from rear. The main idea is to have a recon vechile preceeding them and scouting for an open gap or a lightly defended areas. HT´s are pretty useless used in small maps. 2.) Rapid support: Keep you halftracks in reserve. When your infantry/tanks punch a hole into the enemy´s defences, immediately send the halftracks through the gap and expand it. This way you get reinforcements practically anywhere quickly. 3.) Support weapons: Debark your Panzergrenadiers near the enemy lines, but out of LOS. Then assault with the infantry normally. When your infantry gets shot at by enemy troops, bring the halftracks behind your infantry just so they can let loose with their MG´s at enemy positions and therefore pin the defenders down. If an enemy AT gun fires, take it out with your infantry or with the concentrated fire from all the HT´s. No gun or squad will stay in MG fire from 4 HT´s. Halftracks are vulnerable to HMG fire, AT weapons, grenades and tanks. Use their mobility to avoid these. Use them as very mobile MG´s with armour against small arms, with the infantry carrying ability. Never keep the infantry inside, should you face things that can hurt HT´s. -Panzerjaeger-
  6. I am truly disappointed by the absence of ambhibious vechiles in CMAK. They were a vital part of the Italian campaign as there were many ambhibious landings and lake/river crossings. So bring out the DUKWs and Fantails. We need to get across the rivers without bridges or fords. -Panzerjaeger-
  7. Stick to the WW2. There are still important battles that haven´t been fought in CM. These include Poland, the Winter War, the Netherlands, France, Yugoslavia and Greece, not forgetting the Burma and Pacific campaign. Oh and make a re-issue of CMBO to match CMBB and CMAK. What? No? Just asking...
  8. Played this as the Allied against AI. First, my two recon platoons surrounded the winery and routed the italian defenders there. I left a single squad near the T-junction which leads to the winery. It soon discovered a counter attack by Italian Bersaglieri and German Fallschirmjäger. I moved the rest of the platoon to the direction of the counter attack and routed it. Then came A company. It seized the road near the bridge and the vineyard hills to the west. Destroyed one 20mm Breda AA in the process. The Shermans came, and blew the gun covering the bridge into oblivion (it was pinned by infantry). Lost one tank to the 75mm PaK far in the hills to the east. I moved my recon platoons near bridge with A company behind them. They face heavy fire, so I decide to make a classic cavalry charge with the three Shermans to the other side of the bridge. The Combined fire from the recon platoons and Shermans rout the Fallschirm on the other side and left me free to use the other recce platoon to cover the eastern road as A company storms the Farm. B company was held in reserve near the T-junction. That's it. The remaining Germans surrender. Major Victory. 81/19. The terrain was superb and the mission was a lot of fun. The German/Italian forces could have done better, if they wouldn't have sent that counter attack, which cost them about 2 platoons (1 Italian, 1 German). -Panzerjaeger-
  9. Use cover when possible. I never issue a fire order whilst the spotter is on open ground. Even scattered trees give you enough cover to deny enemy the pleasure of seeing your spotter directing fire. If the spotter is too slow for your liking, you might want to spend points on one with a radio and buy it a jeep, Universal Carrier, Halftrack... -Panzerjaeger-
  10. You could try any of the following: 1. Use tank destroyers. The US M10 GMC can knock out even Tigers at short range. Try to get into a flank position and blow the kitten away. 2. The Panzer IV is almost equal to a Sherman at close range, so close in as fast as possible. 3. Use Anti-Tank teams, Engineers, Flamethrowers and AT guns. 4. Panthers and Mark IV's have thin side/rear armour so try to get around them. Use smoke to block their LOS's. This is particularly useful against Assault guns. 5. No tank is indestructible. Too many AP rounds clanging against the tank will eventually damage guns, immobilize or penetrate a weak point. The Tank might even panic. All in all, the Allied player should fight against the German "übertanks" at close range and use the terrain to their advance. -Panzerjaeger-
  11. Ok, might be. My information is based on modern AT weapons, which I have used when I was in the army. Dunno exactly about WW2 AT weapons. Sorry.
  12. The Schreck and Bazooka backblast effects are only viable when the space in which they are used is tight (no windows open or holes in the wall). In addition, the "danger area" must be clear of any obstacles. I bet that the crews open up the windows, pound a few holes in the wall with a sledgehammer or something like that.
  13. Hi, I'm doing a single player operation consisting basically of a russian marine company assaulting a german beach head. The Ambhibious assault is preceeded by night-dropped paratroopers destroying as many of the pillboxes securing the beach, as well as some AA-guns. The following problems have occurred: 1. The marines have to be deployed along with the paratroopers (which are padlocked between the pillboxes and a village holding a german garrison) because the reinforcements are not automatically in landing boats. I have restricted the marines from moving to secure the beach during the night by reinforcing them with the landing boats on battle #2. 2. After the first battle (which consists of the paratroopers eliminating the AA-guns and pillboxes) the paratroopers gain some land and the marines can be deployed straight to the beach! This is certainly not what I had in mind. I know this can be gone around by making the operation a scenario, but then the landing would be at night, not by dawn. Or vice versa. Thanks in advance. 14. Nothing happens. No error message. I really look forward to playing this game... Win 98, AMD Athlon 1333, Newest drivers Geforce 3 Ti 500, Dunno which version, Finnish package.
  15. It has been funny reading your "battle of wits". I'll have to say that most people should keep their mouths shut when discussing about a computer game. I'll say that again. A COMPUTER GAME! It has nothing to do with what are Finns like, or which country is the most sly... As you were.
  16. I get the same xxxx missing file message. But it won't run even if I try to run it from the shortcut. It does nothing, not error message even when it is ran from the shortcut. I'm all out of ideas here...
  17. Hi. Just bought the game yesterday. Installed it today and noticed it doesn't start. It gives no error report. When I click on the shortcut icon, nothing happens. When I tried to start the game with Cd auto-play, it gave an error report: Could not execute the external program 'xxxxx' Any ideas? Cheers in advance. BTW... I have the required specs to run the game and it is a bought game. [ October 16, 2002, 05:37 PM: Message edited by: Panzerjaeger ]
