  1. Thanks, that very helpful and interesting...but two more questions:

    1)  any idea if I would need to re-install the games which use files in these directors for the games to work?  Having just reinstalled all of my games to the D drive, I'm not keen to repeat the process for the games which store files in the Documents folder...

    2)  I I put these  directories on my NAS, any idea if it would impose a significant performance hit?  I'm thinking that usually files stored in these locations are accessed when loading/saving games rather than while playing them, but wanted to see if anyone has a better idea?

also note you can move your system documents folder to a different drive, so if you've got heaps of mods and your C drive is getting full, this is a good option.

Sorry, how do  you do this?  I actually have plenty of space on my C drive, but would rather put my documents folder onto my NAS, which is backed up regularly...

  3. My computer's C drive is almost full, while I have massive space on my D Drive, so I want to install all of my Battlefront games to my D Drive.  However, when I went to install CMBN, I did not get any choice at all for where I get to install the game.  I think this is the only program I've tried to install in the last 15 years that did that--is there any way to install onto a D drive (which is in my computer, not a network drive)?

I searched for this topic, but did not find any threads...

[EDIT]:  Weird, I just went back and tried to re-install again, and this time I seem to be able to install to the D drive, at least so far...

if you want to read what I consider to be the best eastern front work I would recommend operation Barbarossa by brian fugate. his work was the first of its kind in dealing with the realities of the failure of Barbarossa.

Have you read Barbarossa Unleashed, by Luther?  I haven't read Fugate, but Luther's book is my favorite on Barbarossa so far.  But of course you haven't read "unkind" towards the German military until you've read Stahel's books, all based on German sources...

  5. Another pitch for the partisans:  it seems like most of the other additions (German and Lend-Lease vehicles, some of the German troops) were probably ported over from the other games/modules (CMFB, etc.), so it would be great to get something truly new in this module!

Blame STAVKA for not giving us more to work with :)

Understood, but that is all the more reason to include partisans!  Although I'll certainly buy the game in any event.

Personally I like partisans because they  allow you to create entirely different kinds of battles, whereas choosing between various flavors of German infantry/fusiliers/grenadiers/jaegers/etc adds much less to game-play diversity.

The CMRT module will be about the last battles in Eastern Germany and Hungary. Partisans didn't play much of a role there. Besides this module will already be packed with lots and lots of new units, vehicles, landscape etc. So let's stay realistic, guys. ;)

Actually, I thought the CMRT module was to flesh out the campaign reflected in CMRT and to extend it through the end of the war.  Partisans were actively involved in the campaign reflected in CMRT.

And with all due respect, I see a lot of new German units, vehicles, etc.  Soviets get Lend-Lease vehicles, not clear how many.

And yes I know I didnt cite any sources but this is a fairly well written about subject and I.ve always read it was pretty commonplace. This WAS the army that placed blocking units to machine gun running friendlies.

If I may enquire about your sources, were they printed in the Soviet era?  Even post Soviet era there can be a lot of bias.

Fair enough, but what are your sources?  If you think that German sources are more accurate regarding Soviet info than Soviet sources, I generally don't agree.

    3. the above is especially important. the widespread looting, rape and chaos ( that the Germans did just the same as in Russia) is well documented especially once the Red Army enters Germany. Yet I have yet to see a soldiers account mentioning any of this.

I have seen these atrocities mentioned in quite a few memoirs from Soviet troops, generally written in the 90s.  Of course generally it was always another unit, etc. committing them, but not always.

I promise they won't be too long coming now that the Holidays are pretty much passed.  I didn't want to bug anybody for screenshots this past week, but I will start bugging testers quite soon

I'd say holidays already qualify as "long past".  If no screenies, can we at least get more info about the CMRT module's content?  Partisans?  Hungarians?  Bueller?

  10. I've redone the CMRT database to use links to files in the same directory rather than importing image files into the DB  file itself--it should make the file easier to use as I add more maps.  Note that I've changed one thing in this version of the DB--now I am only listing unique maps, because there are too many maps at this point to reliably indicate which maps are alternative versions or submaps of another map.

While I've tested it on a couple of computers here, before I spend more time adding more maps, I would like for a couple of you to test the file to make sure that the links work, etc.  You should be able to install the directory and files anywhere you want, the main thing is to keep the Excel DB file and all of the map images in the same directory.

Here is the file, note that it is a fairly large file, at about 650 MB:

    CMRT Map Database v3

Could someone please test it, make sure that the map images open, etc. and then let me know here?  Then I'll start adding converted maps from CMFI and CMFB.

I felt that way - and I'm still much more into 'The War' than the modern stuff, but I bought Shock Force when the big bundle came out cheap for Mac and it really is a helluva game. I played it exclusively one Summer. As someone else said above, it has an almost historical feel to it. I bought Black Sea subsequently, but SF has something special: the maps and settings, the surprisingly diverse forces, some very challenging scenarios. It's a very engaging game.

Thanks for the comments, but I doubt I'll buy this one, because I bought the original and could not get through a scenario.  Just wasn't interested, don't know why.  I served in an armor unit during Desert Storm, so I thought I would find it interesting, but I don't...  Not criticizing the game, just probably not something that I will pull the trigger on, although who knows, I've changed my mind before...
