  1. I already see it coming... "...my elite Ringwraith just got killed by a conscript hobbit with a 'rear penetration'!! Fix or do somefink!!" "...why do my Mumaks always bog down in muddy weather? This can't be realistic!" "...Uruk-Hai shouldn't surrender that quickly! As they are modelled now they are nothing but overpriced Hamsters!" "...why won't my Hobbits engage a Balrog? According to the LOS tool they have 0.00001% chance of killing him, they shouldn't run as soon as they spot him!" ...not to forget Rexford's posts: "... mithril armour quality in middle earth as reported by Durin son of Dong, Volume XXVII-XXIX." etc... </font>
  2. it might be something to do with my eyes. when i bump up refresh to 85mhz (which the monitor can do)i find the flicker is unbearable. At 60mhz it's flicker free. odd isn't it? the other thing about that Gainward is that it comes with an o/c utility to push up into the realms of the 4400's. As a final thought, my other concern is that when i ran 3dmark benchmark, the 128mb version was notably slower. i will try the 128 in CMBB and see if there is a performance increase. thank you
  3. i have a gainward Gf4.4200 (older 128mb version w/ slower memory) and a PNY Gf4.4200 64mb (DDR). My system is a P4 2.8 o/c to 3.2. very stable. My issue is with all the mods i have, the screen is starting to pan much more awkardly, with some stutter. I have been using the 64mb version, and i am wondering with all the memory for textures, would i be smarter to go with the 128mb version. i run 1600x1200 on a 21" KDS @ 60mhz refresh. thank you
  4. "4) For a newbie such as myself... is it advantageous to purchase both CMBO as well as CMBB?" BO was a GREAT game; but it is definitely not as mature a game. it is far more forgiving in many respects. i would hop right into BB and learn how to play correctly right away. BO can really mislead you when it comes to the durability of Inf or the accuracy of Arty.
  5. well said; i work everyday with programmers and can testify to that. the only question i have is how modular is the code; would we really be looking for an engine rewrite for a non-core function? this isn't ai, or any kind of physics modelling, it's a question of programming semantics. while i think the email system could probably be improved, i would much rather see their development cycle focus on the new engine. i don't mind the cmbb warts that much
  6. I am presently playing "Paislini" and "Death Ride of the Panzers"; both are large, but very enjoyable, especially for PBEM. try these guys. i think both are available at the Depot
  7. I'm sorry, but could you tell me how BO QB's/Editor is better than BB? WHat features are you missing, and what qualities do the BO QB's have that is lacking in the Rodina?
  8. I'm of the exact opposite opinion; never leave something stable for something that may have no tangible benefits. MS is notorious for releasing uncompleted products. i'd rather let other people be their test group...
  9. i think thta's why i enjoy playing the reconaissance vehicles against the KV's; the immense fireball you create is so reassuring...
  10. not to be a party pooper, but another thing to remember is you better have a good machine with a vid card that has a LOT of memory for textures. I have a P4 2.85 w/ 1 GB of pc800 and a GF4 4200 and when i run my unmodded version of CMBB it's great; but as soon as i switch to the modded install, panning the camera around can be a bit painful. Of course i have every unit modded that has a mod submitted for it... Just something to remember if your machine/video card isn' that robust Murray
  11. This sounds like the MG of old; methinks he awakes from his somnolence...
  12. That's exactly i think; when i played another scen, it kept happening over and over again until irealized they were scared witless and were trying to get away from a potential target
  13. granted these fellas weren't Pioneers, but i had a whole bloody platoon of a motorized squad running after a Mk IV using the follow command in a city battle. The TC was injured so the tank was buttoned up, and they threw about 5 or 6 Molotovs and got him. i was extremely pleased and entertained to see this herd of Russians running the streets after a tank
  14. I have to say how disappointed i am not to see an AAR today; it's been my lunch reading. well done guys, this is gold. very inspiring to try it ourselves i think edited to put in sad face lest i sound like a whiner and someone take me seriously [ January 08, 2003, 03:48 PM: Message edited by: Bartokomus ]
  15. exactly what he said. but oddly enough i remember in an assault i was conducting i could hear ghostly laughter on the chill night air...
  16. I agree Olle; EFOW is of great advantage to the Attacker
  17. I started in the participation of the Bears & Tigers Campaign, which was a very ambitious and complex undertaking. the ruleset was fantastically well thought out, but very demanding and not for the low-on-time/faint-of-hearted. When i left, they had about 15 per side and they were still fine tuning the rules and assisting everyone to learn how to use the tools they needed to master. don't have the link anymore sorry
  18. 5th SS PzGr Wiking; it's at the scen depot. it is a doozy to play the Germans against the ai, esp. with a bonus.
  19. defintiely don't want to run into those lads in a back alley. 3 MG42's
  20. Just watched a special on Tigers featuring German Ace Otto Carius. He drove with the hatch open at all times he claimed, becuase it was imperative he be able to survey the battlefield. In addition, i have read about many commanders exiting their tanks during lulls in the action, to do some foot recon
  21. if you can help it at all, always stay away from a new revision of DX for a good 6 months. M$ still pursues the "hey, it's 75% complete, time to get it out the door" business model.
  22. i think the Band of Brothers episode was number 6, "Bastogne".
