  1. In WAW there appears to be only one tile that is a "land" island. While the other two are "sea" islands. While that is not in of itself a big deal it does affect any Pacific or strategic "global" map, in terms of either deciding what to do with an island or whether to end up with a funky looking map to allow both land AND sea tiles with repsective fortifications AND harbors. Such is the case with Crete, Malta, Truk, Saipan, Okinawa, Hawaii, etc. Even Gibraltar (though not an "island") is affected as there is no way to combine forts AND harbors. So is there a way to ADD tile types? Will the Pacific Theater SC2 have more island tiles??? What advice or thoughts can some of the modders here give an old map junkie like me with regards to making realistic maps that can handle land and sea units, etc. ????
  2. I might chime in here... when we play as Germany we are in essence taking over Hitler's role... so him being nuts is besides the point. It would be good to let the player make decisions that are ahistorical, or "what ifs" to make the game interesting in that respect. There's no point in always playing WW2 in the same way every time... attack Poland/Scandinavia/France/Africa/Balkans/Russia/wait for D-Day, etc.
  3. Hi all, I'm having problems figuring out how to make scripts or use some...I've searched threads here but nothing really definitive that I could find. Is there a tutorial or a walk through for this?
  4. BigAl, I took your step-by-step directions and learned how to do the map... then... I didn't go by the scales. I just made a big map file in photoshop (90MB!). Once the figures where imported into the notepad txt file, I could see that the first (top) number was greater than 256. When I opened editor, it was indeed wider. I kept widening and trying out different options until I got a really wide map. Not so successful getting the height. I will certainly do some testing this weekend. I think if the PC processor and RAM are powerful than it will be a playable map. Either way it was fun breaking the rules!!!!
  5. Okay SeaMonkey... Here's a shot of Hawaiin Islands / Pearl Harbor... Keep in mind that I'm still tweaking out the terrain, and I wish we had more terrain tiles... but alas, we will do what we can with what we have. I'm trying to find a balance in accuracy, aesthetics, and gameplay. Let me know what you think:
  6. Hubert, thanks for the kudos, but it's you we should be thanking... Here's a screenie of the massive map I'm working on... full world scale and 399x98 tiles!!! HUGE!!! SOmehow I was able to get the program to go beyond the 256 tiles wide. This is the U.K. and Ireland area... so much to do... this is fun... my way of relaxing really.
  7. I went with a full map board more along the lines of SPI's Global War. And I was able to get 400 tiles across (see post #10)!!! It's massive!
  8. Here's the screenie, showing the coordinates at the bottom...
  9. Big Al...thanks for sharing that. Been having great fun making some new maps. BTW - the program only allows you a max of 256 tiles across, however, when I did the map it created a map 400 tiles wide by 96 high.
  10. How do you get the Map Gen program to work??? I double click but nothing happens. Is there a special setting I need to be in?
  11. Reading the info on the main page it appears to me that this is a tool to play out "campaigns" or series of battles in a strategic map, that then requires CMBB to actually play out the battles. It sounds like a tool. My CMBB hasn't worked right for years. Wonder if there's any new enhancements. Will Campaigns come with an updated CMBB??? Anyway, glad to see that this is still a system being given time. I sure hope for a new engine version some day.
  12. Thanks SeaMonkey... I'm really having a lot of fun playing the WaW at the moment. The AI seems pretty good, at times very tough. Nest game I will play it at max difficulty... just because I like the abuse!!!
  13. Thanks Hubert for the update. Yeah, most likely I'll cave in and get PTO. You've got some great ideas for the new editions. Jon I understand your point of view. Yet it was the fact that SC2 had a global campaign that I recently purchased it. Don't underestimate the power of the consumer.
