  1. I'm more worried that "the printers", whoever they are are involved in the process. If they can't get it right, who will they turn to next? The cleaners?
  2. If you look at Egon's list, and then go to any of the major bittorrent sites, you'll notice that SecuROM seems to have no effect in preventing piracy. All these types of protection do is prevent 'casual copying'. I believe that this is also the second time SecuROM has caused an issue for those of us whose chose to purchase a Paradox version of this title. We are being punished for living in Europe and wanting to walk into a game store and purchase a physical copy of the game. I'm drifting a wee bit away from the topic here (which is please make this game work... soon), but I've always thought that companies that utilise copy protection in an attempt to increase sales by preventing imagined loss of earnings are foolish. A better method is to release a great, working title and to encourage loyalty among customers by continued support and listening to concerns. Doing this will lead to the best kind of free advertising... recommendation and word-of-mouth. Battlefront used to seem like this (I know they still used copy protection, but it was less intusive). Not only did I purchase all three of the previous Combat Mission games, but I convinced at least 3 other people to do the same. I haven't dared even to ask any of my friends to buy CMSF yet.
  3. Why is it that these protection system issues only seem to punish legitimate customers? I know other games companies who remove CD/DVD checks all together by the time they get to a 5th or 6th patch. I bought this game on release, and still haven't been able to have a proper run at it.
  4. Yip.... the drawn paths show the intended and actual routes taken by the dismounting infantry. The vehicle was not moving at all at that point. The position of the vehicle would have given them some cover from any unexpected surprises from the left... all they had to do was jog round the right side and through a door.
  5. I really want to like this game, but stuff like this is making it really difficult. This was the 2nd time in 5 minutes that I'd lost a bunch of guys because of this kind of thing. I suppose 'pathfinding' isn't really the issue. Pathfinding would be placing 1 waypoint way across the map and letting the TacAI find it's own best route there. This is a 'toute following' issue, where I specify the route a unit has to take and the TacAI goes mental. Also, in the same game, I watched another Stryker drive diagonally through the whole length of one of the other barracks buildings (undamaged). I feel I may have to put the game back on the shelf until it's patched to a decent level.
  6. Thanks for that info... can't wait to receive my copy... although there's another bloody Royal Mail strike happening Thursday/Friday
  7. Will those of us who have chosen to get the game from Paradox have access to the 300 page full manual in PDF form? Either on the game disc or as a download? Sorry if this question has already been asked and answered.
  8. Just an update on this issue. My friend finally got this working by using the Nvidia driver stuff, and changing the refresh rates from 'default' to '60mhz' for the required resolutions.
  9. Thanks for the info. I spoke to my friend, and he confirms that although his monitor is plug-and-play, it is fairly old and has a fixed refresh rate of 60mhz. He's running in 32 bit colour at 1024x768. It is strange however that he's had no bother in the past installing and playing CMBO and CMBB.
  10. This post is on behalf of a friend (and CMBB opponent). After downloading and playing the CMAK demo myself, I pleaded with my friend to get it, so we could try it out PBEM. He tried to install and run the demo, and came across a problem. When the program gets to the bit about testing screen resolutions, the screen goes completely black... and stays like that. From my memory of installing CMBO, CMBB and the CMAK demo, it should only take a second or two for it to detect resolution/refresh rate or whatever. He's running Windows XP and an nvidia graphics card. What are the likely reasons for this? Vid card drivers? DirectX? He can still run CMBB perfectly OK.
  11. Subject says it all really. To clarify, I mean, when is the updated version with corrected spelling and typos being sent out to customers who already received the "first edition"
  12. If you need any more "Northern British" players let me know. I know you guys can get touchy when beaten fair and square by a Scot. Just look what you did to that poor bugger Wallace.
  13. I was a Sapper in a Territorial Army RE unit (before joining the Royal Marines Reserve). It's kinda funny the 2 Corps sharing the same mottos... and obviously feeds the rivalry and banter between them.
  14. I just wish the game would show the squad carrying the boat on land instead of sitting in it. Looks kinda silly BTW.... your 'board name' "Ubique". Anything to do with Royal Engineers or Royal Artillery?
  15. I thank you. The site I found it on before was single scenarios/operations. I'm just too lazy to download each one individually. Thanks
  16. Talking about the Stalingrad Pack..... Is there anywhere it can be downloaded in one chunk? That's what I thought was meant by a pack in the first place.
  17. Perhaps someone who supports Bush, would be kind enough to inform us why we're going to war with Iraq. Yes, he's a ruthless dictator. But why single this one regime out from the multitude of others in the world. He poses no threat to the USA itself, only to American interests in the middle east. There are less links between Saddam's Iraq and Al Queda than there are between Saudi and Osama's organisation. The whole 'Weapons of Mass Destruction' issue seems like a lame excuse for war. The USA is planning to go to war with a country who claims not to have WMD or a proven WMD programme, while not going to war with the DPRK who have WMD and have restarted their nuclear developments. Mmmmhhh?
  18. A double Christmas present. My first copy of the guide is sitting wrapped under the tree at my parents' house, to be opened on Wednesday. Now a 2nd gift from Battlefront. Good service guys! The idea posted by the previous poster is a good one. People might want to know if there is a favourite charity they can send a fews pounds/dollars/euros to as a way of thanking you.
  19. Yeuch! Whisky! I'm a Scot, and had a bad experience drinking about a half pint of the stuff when I was about 16. I can barely even smell the stuff now without gagging. I'll stick to lager thank you very much.
  20. I finished the second half of a thrilling TCP/IP game last night, with myself as the German defending against a Soviet assault. We're planning to use the same map for a mirror game, with me as the Soviet attacker. I created a Quick Battle against the AI from both sides to check the new map import feature, and make sure there was nothing unexpected going to happen. I noticed that although, barbed wire, roadblocks, TRPs and the like were removed, as well as knocked out vehicles, MY trenches, foxholes and fallback foxholes will be available to my opponent at no extra cost to himself. I also noticed that the defender in such a situation is able to enter fallback foxhole placement mode and "lift up" imported foxholes. Now, he's going to have plenty foxholes of his own, but I'd be interested to know how effective foxholes are at hindering armoured movement if laid in "strings", something very possible to do with 100+ "extra" foxholes. I'd also like to know how effective overlapping foxholes would be at simulating more organic trench systems. Another observation is that imported trenches can be lifted in a similar fashion, although they come up in segments and convert to unused fallback foxholes (5 per trench).
  21. I picked up a workmate's copy of the UK PC game magazine "PC Gamer" today, and noted that the CMBB demo was included on one of the cover CDs. I flipped through the magazine till I got to their preview section, where they have a page on CMBB. I nearly **** myself with uncontrollable horror when I saw they had the release date down as "December", and they mentioned in the next that they'd be playing it "in time for Christmas"   I NEED a copy of Combat Mission 2 THIS bloody month.
  22. It certainly does seem to suck big style. Considering the only named changes between the US version and the "Rest of World" English version are supposed to be Waffen SS > Waffen Grenadier, and the changing of the Swastika flag, I would love to know why the release date has now slipped twice. I WILL buy the game the day it hits the shops, but it pains me to be treated like a second class citizen. the wait from 20th September till 4th October was bad enough, but now it seems a further week has been added on. Bah Humbug! Give CDV a kick up the arse from me please. Back to CMBO and the CMBB demo
  23. I haven't heard anything in the forum about it, and it ain't in the demo, but here goes: Is is possible to do a full-game replay? It's something I've always wished for.
