  1. Hope that everyone had a good holiday. In melbourne it was 43 degrees at 6pm on New Years Eve which made the beers all the better. As for the tourney, thank you again Slysniper and Kingfisher. I have thoroughly enjoyed. it. Thoughts on the maps then. Fear in the fog. I thought that this was a great idea. However, the limits of the engine made it less fun than it could have been. The performance of elite troops under fire is clearly a game problem. For example in real life my crack platoon would realise that they could see each other and two squads would likely poor fire at the direction of the attack and the other squad could investigate. In CM each squad sees itself in open ground and heads for cover. Leaving you at the end of the mintute to tell them what they do in RL. Next, bumpy map. I thought that this was a great map, the overwhelming force that the germans had at the start was neatly counteracted by the limited avenues of attack. I'm not sure that I could have won an absolute victory on this map. I don't think that I would have had the forces to take the large vl. In any case I had a little dig at it an lost three panthers and my infantry holding the small VL's got hammered by berts arty. All in all a good map interesting questions asked of the attacker. I think that it would have played very differently and prehaps better if there were 10 more moves. Ths would make it a rather long battle but more interesting. At the same time spread out the arrival of the attackers AFV's Finally long map with guns The setup on this map is what cost me. I couldn't believe that a defending force would not try to control the woods on the left so I sent a couple of forces in there and lost them in fairly short order. Other than that I think that this map would benefit from some barbed wire. My opponents tatic in this map was urban renewal, he would move his AFV's just forward enough to destroy a building and so on step by step. This destroyed most of my infantry leaving the battle rather a foregone conclusion. barbed wire would encourage the defender to hide behind houses a bit more. As for the reinforcements in this map I wasted a lot of them because I was in danger of being completely overun in the town. However, they did manage to even up the panthers that came down the left, with more time I may have been able to turn the battle with them. I would love to hear other people's thoughts, or Sly and Kingfisher coming out to explain design decisons. cheers Will Note Spelling has not been checked =)
  2. Sly Bert and I should be done in the next couple of days. RL has intervened for me considerably slowing down my turn rate. cheers Will
  3. Well I have lost the above game. Fell victim to the my own stratergy described above. Also did not use me reinforcements that well. There were two major turning points. 1st my attempt to take the woods on the right took to AT guns out of play along with my failure to exploit my AT gun on the left,(had it on hide with ambush on the road and the enemy tanks were on teh other side of the road.) 2nd my artillery barrages which I think saved my bacon. End score 42 to 58 congrats Fiaros but I consider myself very lucky. your tactics were far superior especially your urban renewal which took me by surprise. I would be interested to hear how other allied troops approached this map cheers Will
  4. u8led i too made the same mistake but largely though not totally recovered from it. I planned to rush a couple of AT guns and a platoon of infantry down the woods on the right of the map to watch the bridge with the VL location on it. Imagine my horror when at turn 1 I saw German infantry in the woods, my two AT guns on the back of trucks and 5 minutes away from unlimbering. I would be interested to see how this map plays in AK with cover arcs. I think that this would give the defender a much bigger advantage as you could more naturally control your AT guns. As for Panzers on the prowl, i'm not sure yet that I am going to win. At one stage I was reasonably certain I had good positions with room to move reinforcements up out of LOS and swap forces from flank to flank. This has no disapered and I am rather stuck with what to do next. At this stage Bert is still holding the big VL while I hold the three small ones. This could well be the way the game ends with 10 turns to go. This represents what I think is a plus for the scoring system. Depending on what other Axis players are doing it may be worth my while to consolidate my limited objectives and leave the big flag. However, doing that risks other axis players acting agressively, taking more losses but securing the big VL. We will have to see. cheers Will
  5. Alright then without getting into specifics. The one that isn't Norrey or Ghost in the fog is my favourite at the moment. This may be because I am doing fairly well at it. However, I have noticed that I have to move slowly or risk being ambushed. This is where the defender has a big advantage in this game all the little bumps and right hand turn roads cut down LOS also the marsh tends to funnel your infantry. Ghost in the fog started off really badly for me. Especially as I am one of the poor shmucks who can not support fog on my laptop. But I have learnt to control my troops now but don't look like getting that many flags. Norrey supports an agressive opening German move in the first 10 turns (i'm guessing that most people are past this point) This move however, cuts down on the size of the map so that the map could have been a lot smaller because much of it isn't used. As for the previous round, what were thinking looked great, But I also really liked the last road out. Would like to play that one again being aware of how it scored so instead of trying to rush my troops out I held some flags at the end. cheers Will
  6. Mazex Someone more informed will no doubt be along soon. But if we can get past your fixation with staring at a computer generated images groin you will probably find that the groin protector part of the body armour is not connected to the pants as your photoshop edit depicts cheers Will
  7. It must just be me then, maybe I smell funny. Anyway my other two games are progressing well, email 40ish which is about 12 turns or so I think cheers Will
  8. I'm sure that this happened to me in a previous game, but I've no idea why it happened.
  9. I'd just make one suggestion. Get your mods from cmmods.com instead of combat mission hq, there are heaps more cmmods mods there now. Someone will be along in a moment to tell you where the cmmos program is at cmmods but to get to the mods click cmbo mods then sort by designer then click cmmos cheers Will
  10. I'm just guessing here. Aren't bunkers in CMx1 stationary vechiles with respect to the game code. Does death clock apply? Could the bunker be dead and not showing it? Will
  11. Mr Emry's Your brand of irrefutable logic is not welcome here. Yours sincerely Will
