  1. Perhaps I am being too finicky, How seamless is PBEM? I use Gmail. Does it involve playing a turn saving a file, tabbing out, pulling up a browser, creating a email, attaching the file and then sitting there until the other player does the same? Seems so cumbersome. I see your point with playing games with strangers, but I always played with good friends/relatives so we had agreed upon acceptable delays (Also since we all only player each other, the time we needed to take our turn tracked well over time.) And if I do all that do I still get a VCR like playback from the original? I loved being able to re-watch the battle from different points, or to re-watch a particularly amazing event. If it can do that, I might give it a go. From the sounds of it, the replay feature was also removed, so you get to watch it once and then you have to give your orders.
  2. Damn.. Ok well that sucks... still.... I feel like Don Quixote constantly coming back here over the years in hope of them putting back the one feature I fell in love with years ago. Is a new improved engine in the works that will support this classic style? If so, I'll be back then. Thank you for the information Womble.
  3. Any word on playing in WeGo mode in a TCP network game In Final B? (like the original Combat Mission series?). I searched the forums, and the manual and saw no details on this. My hope comes from the features page that says the following "Any mission can be played in either Real Time or our novel WEGO hybrid..." but any mission is different from any mode, so I just wanted to clarify. Thanks.
  4. That does make it more compelling. I will give it a try when I can. Thanks folks.
  5. Bummer. The PBEM was a bit unforgiving as well. If you could just set the folders to write the files to and the ones to receive you could at least have a service like Google Drive transfer your files to eliminate the need for an email step. Oh well, I guess most people don't care for the feature, or they would add it in.
  6. Thanks folks. I was going to ask how integrated the PBEM was.. but I grab the demo as I see that it has fully implemented PBEM/TCP play (I missed that the first time around). Thanks again.
  7. I have always been a fan of WeGo TCP/IP from the original games where you get to playback the last turn. Is it true that this feature is missing from the current game? If not, is it available via a PBEM mode. I checked the online manual and it makes no mention of an PBEM mode. Is there another more complete manual available when you purchase the full game? Thanks
  8. Yeah we had our issues and for the record I did not touch the meta game stuff which had the most issues at least early on. But if it was in tactial real time play and it was not to your liking well it was my bad at least up until SFC3 then it was mostly someone elses job. If it was the Meta-Game server stuff.. that was controlled by the heads of the company, and I had no say in the design or implementation. Nor did I want to be as I had enough other stuff to do. But I think it would be unfair to consider SFC as hosed as CMSF at release. For one we had a demo that was out for months ahead of the game and it was very popular and much liked. And when Interplay was the publisher we patched for stability and balance. When Activision ran the show...well they stopped us from releasing patches, so our hands were tied. I think you will find people still playing the games even now. http://www.dynaverse.net/ Considering the game is no longer supported and solely supported by fans I would have to say it stood up well against the test of time. And just to be clear I did not say what I did for a living for any other reason than to make it clear that I understand the issues involved in making games. I wrote the replay in SFC, I designed the network model, the simulation and the UI. And it was my first PC game to boot, so of course I could have done better. If I wrote it today I would have done things differently of course. Marc
  9. I wish however I am too cheap to laugh too hard about throwing away $50. Perhaps after a month or 3 of patches it will aproach Beta stage. We have to be careful or else the guys who got my $50 will label me a whinner.
  10. I played the Ambush Tutorial. During this game I had a striker get lost going down a major street, not an ally but a huge wide street. I set it 3 way points. One to get near the street, one to get onto it, and another straight down the unbostructed road. It got to the first two waypoints, but when trying to get to the waypoint at the middle of the road it decided to hang a left, into a bunch of buildings, then go around in circles until it came back pointing its butt to the enemy. Also when it and another striker where waiting in ambush there, they started shooting at some SYrians. They shot at them sparotically and to my astonishment while the syrians slowly walked across the street, they all just seemed to ignore the sparatic gunfire. When I zoomed in to get a closer look.. it turns out they were walking about 20 feet in the air (and still ascending) going across the street to the 2nd story of a building that was not even adjacent to the street. I lost a striker while this was happening as Real Time has no replay I will never know why. and after minutes of firing at buildings I seemed to have won. It reached a 2 on the 1-10 fun meter.
  11. Never mind. Too Angry right now. Should not have brought it up. Just wanted to vent. [ July 28, 2007, 05:58 PM: Message edited by: MHertogh ]
  12. Whhhaaaa TCP/IP is Real time only? @#%! Guys what were you thinking. It is not WeGo then, it is called Play by E-mail. And Single player should not be called WeGo either Single Player is Igo. Don't advertise WeGo and then not describe that it is not what your other games are. Now I understand why everyone who plays plays it real time, because you killed WeGo! Grrrr I try and try to give you guys the benifit of the doubt but man it seems so #$%@ deceptive.
  13. I bet most everyone has USB mice. But the problem is that there are little known issues with USB mice. And then it seems only the high end ones that spam the USB bus. Childress.. Just a few questions that may help you or someone else figure out what is wrong. Is your substitute mouse USB or PS2? Are you using a USB hub with your laser mouse? If so is it powered? Did you verify you had the latest drivers? Are you using the lasers graphical interface or just windows default controls.
