  1. "hey im looking for sogard...anyone seen him?"..."o never mind..."
  2. I think this is a good question and I am all for being able to join units. Kind of like taking elite formations that have been decimated and pulling them off the front lines to make 'crack' armies for major offensives or to make a defensive stand. Dont see why you shouldnt be able to do this
  3. quote by sogard: I am always puzzled when I read posts like the first one in this thread. Forums are about discussion and debate and while it sometimes gets a bit heated around here; it is nothing compared to the kind of language used in many peer reviews and academic debates. My sense has always been that, over time and with a full fledged discussion, the wheat will separate itself from the chaff. Malius' view may win out over time on any given subject as long as he is willing to defend it and point out the errors of his opponants. What this kind of forum is not about is a Socratic debate where one side says something is true and the response is "oh this is so right;" or if there has been a disagreement, the conclusion that "I was wrong and bow before your knowledge and brilliance" is seldom heard. But, give some credit to the reader. You can fool some of the people all of the time; and even all of the people some of the time. With an honest discussion though, the facts will eventually be known to the discerning reader who wants to look for them. actually sometimes people just get sick of arguing with people who dont listen to reason...what is the point of bettering a fool in a discussion? he wont recognize that he is wrong...that said i think that the majority of people on this forum at least know there stuff and dont mind debate; its just that i lmao at some of the absolute stupidity of the people who cant even see that they make themselves appear like children. all they should do is step back and look at what they have said and what they have done to BACK up there statements...but i love this forum...you guys are the best keep up the banter
  4. you have a hearty amen on that one...i think that anyone who looks at the casualties from WWII will quicly see that this was a war that was won on the eastern front...games like axis and allies are so imbalanced towards US production that only the most novice of players can lose with the allies side (this is my experience anyways). facts are the US let the germans and russians bleed themselves white and then moved in to 'win the war' so to speak. the russians had tried to get us to land in france MUCH earlier then we actually did...great game; and i agree full heartedly with the prod levels, although haveing a bigger map of the US would be nice (and of course afrika!)
  5. sogard...emailed the wiesenthal society a couple of weeks ago and i finally got a response... Subj: Re: michael wittmann Date: 10/7/02 12:26:33 PM Pacific Daylight Time From: abreitbart@wiesenthal.net (Aaron Breitbart) To: Alphaimpulse@cs.com Thjank you for your inquiry.I could find no evidence of wittman's participation in war crimes, either. There are some excellent articles on his career on the internet. If interested,go to www.google.com and simply insert his name in the searchbox. >>> <Alphaimpulse@cs.com> 09/27/02 10:39AM >>> I am doing some research on Haupstürmfuhrer Michael Wittmann of the Liebstandarte Adolph Hitler, 1st SS Panzer Division. To this point in my studies I have found no evidence that Wittmann was a part of any massacre or other war crimes, due to the fact that most of the information I have deals primarily with his military history as a Panzer commander. However, Mr. Wiesenthal has compiled an extraordinary amount of documents on matters such as these and I would be extremely grateful if you could give me any information as to whether or not this man was a war criminal, or if anyone under his command perpertrated war crimes. With much thanks, Abe Wiebe **************************************************************************** Simon Wiesenthal Center / Museum of Tolerance Los Angeles, CA 90035 310-553-9036 so there you go...ill be expecting that apologie any day now....
  6. you have one vote for you on this one...russians run them over WAAAY to easily...perhaps a HQ or something...

  8. sogard, my dear lawyer friend. YOU are the one charging that wittmann is a war criminal why dont YOU prove YOUR accusations right by coming up with some evidence, like emailing the wiesenthal center, or getting it from somewhere else that is legitamate. or are you scared that you wont find anything? post any replies from wiesenthal and if you find any implication that wittmann was involved in war crimes then i will change my tag line and apologize to the forum and you. if not i would expect the same thing from you. then this subject will be CLOSED. ANYWAYS, on the subject of air power and limiting units, just an idea, not a suggestion, i was pondering what affect no stacking has on having too many air units. it seems to me that not so much in russia, but on the west front, crowding can become an issue. if your ground force could be stacked to 2 on one hex, then maybe people would place less emphasis on air fleets since they could create holes easier with ground units and then fan out behind them like the real life mobile warfare that was employed in WWII. just a thought... 9. i think that i will go ahead and make this my last message on this topic...what i meant by not every us is soldier was good, blah blah...was that you cannot judge someone by the group that they are in, especially a military one...every army has had massacres (you think the us is all fun and games, sogard...read up on how we slaughtered innocent civilians in vietnam)...wittmann was NOT involved in any massacres...if he were i would not have posted his stats...(btw, the malmedy massacre happened at the battle of the bulge sogard...PLEEEEEASE do some research...wittmann was KIA on 8 august.1944 near Gaumensnil, well before then...) also, just to let everyone know; my grandfather fought in the us air corp flying in b-17's in WWII; i am not a neo-nazi..that is ridiculous, and sogard needs to just get over it...i am not on here spouting ss propoganda...from the first post on he has been on a personal vendetta against me...it is BS and this is the last post i am going to write defending myself...so shoot away sogard...but im still gonna be here debating things about the game.... 10. posted by sogard: It is obvious that you are a child. I can not believe that you attend a serious University. In the normal class room exchange, comments would be much stronger than anything I have said or that you have inferred from what I have written. I take it you must be a Freshman and are unused to upper level course work. The marketplace of ideas is not about everyone agreeing about a subject; but, about a civil discourse where strong opinions can be discussed. actually, sogard i am a sophomore at the university of oklahoma, am a member of phi theta kappa at OSU in OKC, AND am on the NATIONAL DEANS LIST (which only 1/2 of 1% of students nationwide are a part of)...so i am quite used to classroom debates...i just dont like childish namecalling and insults to my character...if you have a problem with me citing wittmans stats then tough...not every us soldier was good, not every ss man was evil...and i never said (or anyone else for that matter) that germany's prod was accurate to history..no one's in the game is!!! look at the us for example...what im saying is that there are better ways to remedy the problem then hard limits...
  11. posts by sogard: However, the game is suppose to be based upon WW II. Why would you say that in the advertising (just take a look at the banner on this site advertising the game) if what you really meant that this was suppose to be a game where the Nazis overrun the world and you get to be the grand Obengruppenfuhrer of this? The problem is that you want to have it both ways. You want the cool SS Black uniforms, the goose stepping soldiers and the stukas; but, you don't want what the game represents to bear any resemblance to the history on which it was based. sogard, for a gamer who has supposedly been playing since 1969 you are very immature...ever since my first post you have attacked me personally inferring that i am glorifying the nazis and the ss...i am sick of it and to be blunt its a bunch of BÜLL SH!TT...i have no sympathy for nazis or ss members i am a gamer and WWII history buff, thats it...not a neo nazi...and for you to infer this is an attack against my character...hubert you have one vote for sogard to be banned from this forum and anyone else who agrees, chime in please
  12. what exactly is the point of a grand strategy game if you cannot change the historical mix of production and even increase it with the necessary increase in MPP's by obtaining resources? you might as well just skip the build phase of this game entirely and just have set reinforcements and builds if everything is supposed to be 'historical'. i am definately in favor of something like only operational moves for airunits...but not limits on their numbers...also as a side note, this game is NOT to my knowledge supposed to be the most accurate representation of the economies employed by the powers of WWII (just look at how simple the resource system is,i can remember a crappy game called "storm across europe" that had more detail in the resource area)...the idea of making limits on units would change this game completely in my mind, and that should not happen because in my mind its very good as it is
  13. thnk you Bruce 70, you said what i was trying to say much better...aircraft and tanks should not be limited in my opinion because REALISTICALLY the germans, russians or anyone else could have built as many of these as they wanted WITHIN THE LIMITS OF THEIR PRODUCTION CAPABILITIES...however population is of course a limiting factor concerning armies and corps!!! now if too many tanks and air fleets are being built then something else needs to be tweeked (ie, prod cost, lower MPP prod, or something else), but not by limiting the no. of these units...if this were the case then the what ifs of germany getting the oilfields in the Caucusus or succesfelly implementing Sea Lion and therefore increasing prod would have no reward because they could only build a certain # of units... 14. well, dont really know what side of the argument im on here...i think that something like a limit on armies and corps and tank groups based on historical population figures could be used...but limiting air fleets should not be limited i think...the only limit should be that countries ability to produce the required MPPs to build them... just a thought but limiting no. of units buildable would make the tech development 'industry' less desirable in my mind because it would only help up to a certain point, at which time you would have to stop building...just my 2cents worth....
  15. yeah that would be a great idea...wouldnt be that hard to implement i would think...
  16. wow, guys didnt mean for my post to have this kind of response...as for the charges that i am ignorant about WWII and the waffen SS role in it, that is not true...i am a big WWII and WWI history buff and have hundreds of books on the subject...the reason i tagged Michael Wittmann was merely because in researching the waffen SS i found him to be an amazing soldier...nothing more and nothing less...the facts are Wittmann became the leading tank ace of all time...but this is beside the point; to say that he is an evil man is ridiculous...an example was used that everyone on all levels was Nazified is wrong as well...if i believe correctly the 'best' general the germans had (Erwin Rommel) was secretly 'dispatched by the gestapo for his views...not everyone was a hitler just waiting to massacre innocent children...also, considering the east front; both sides, including the russians fought an extremely barbaric war...in the end though i didnt mean for this to start an argument...people shouldnt take offence to my tag...its not meant to be offensive
  17. 1) manual says that max exp. attainable is 10 but i see only 4 medals representing exp. do these each represent 2.5 experience pts each? 2) also, i dont quite grasp what the manual says about gaining exp. it says that for an offensive a unit gains +.2 pts, +.5 for a attack victory ?!? (does this mean destroying unit, if so seems kind of abstract considering that for instance, an army could take out most of the strength of an oppsing army and then have a tank group come along and mop up the last say 1 st, pt. and get +.3 more exp pts.), and +.1 for defence. 3) does this literally mean pts gained? in my limited experience playing the game it seems like more than even +.5 is gained for a succesfull battle...i mean it would take a min of 17 turns for a unit to gain 10 exp and that would be getting attack victories EVERY turn and being attacked every opponents turn, not to mention NEVER recieving reinforcements, a very unlikely situation indeed... 4) just my ponderings, sorry for the length and thanx for any responses...
  18. prob a stupid question, but i was wondering what ideas anyone had about the variables that go into the amount of 'plunder' that is taken from countries when they are conquered. does it have to do with the amount of resources that are available in that country (ie, more resources in norway means more plunder than in say, the low countries, etc.). or is this number just randomized...thanx
  19. you cant buy transports. to transport move unit that you wish to move by sea next to a port and then R/click and select 'transport'. unit icon will change to appropiate transport icon
  20. I think Bruce70's idea was by far the best. Im all for it. Not a big fan of the system as it is because it is so easy to skew things out of proportion; i think it has a huge impact when you can get extremely lucky or unlucky...
