Rommel wanted a forward defence of the Panzers, Von Rundstedt favoured the more traditional and conventional idea of keeping the reserves (Panzers) back so they could be concentrated at one point. However Rommel had in North Africa experienced conditions where the Allies had total air superiority and how it would greatly hinder Rundstedt's plan to concentrate all his Panzers in one place. Rundstedt had commanded in Poland, France and Russa where Luftwaffe airpower was dominant
