  1. Yeah, pretty good, nice pics too. Just wanne set one thing straigth, Vichy did colaborate with the Germans. They captured Jews and turned them over to the Germans, who sended them to the camps. Ofcource the French people isn't to blame here. A lot was put into place to sabotage these actions. The problem was the Vichy governement, which was weak.
  2. JerseyJohn, you make the English look like the big bad guys. It's not that extreme. They actualy wanted to help the Fins, it wasn't just an excuse. They wanted to secure Norway on the way, but after that was done, the troops would actualy go to help the Fins. The withdrawal out of France was completely justified. The Brits didn't have another choice, except being destroyed. And many French units withdrew at Dunkirk with the Brits. The French agreed not to sign peace on their selves, so in the British opinion, the peace wasn't worth anything. They told the French ships to join them, of be destroyed. The other option, leaving them alone, would mean that the French navy would fall in German hands. I doubt Hitler would keep his promise not to use the French ships. I'm not agreeing with the Brits on doing it, but I can understand them. Basicaly, they were shooting deflectors. Conciddering the invasion of Belgium, this was mostly a French idea. Ofcource the British did some inexcusable stuff during the war, as did all other big nations involved. Using the war as an excuse to expand their imperium is one of them.
  3. The Allies actualy made plans to violate the Belgian neutrality. They wanted their troops to hold the line at the Meuse river, but the Belgians didn't wanne let them in. There was some thinking about moving in anyway, but they decided against that because of PR reasons. It would make them look bad to the rest of the world. In Norway, it didn't look bad, because they were 'on their way to save the Fins'. And Vichy wasn't realy an issue, as the Allies didn't recognise the Vichy governement. They were sending troops to occupied allied terretory.
  4. Best way to break trough is airpower. If you don't have that, another good way might be to lure out the AI. Create a small salient, where you can beat on an enemy unit with more then 2 of you. Have your most experienced units do the fighting and make sure they are all full strength. I'm not sure if the last will work, I never tried to lure in the AI, but when there was a salient or corner in my frontline, I always tried attacking there, and that usualy worked. I like the idea of being able to occupy the hex of the unit you just destroyed. I don't like being able to fight and retreat. That's something you can do with a company, not with an army of 100000 man.
  5. I think it influences the computer too. When I played fall gelb campaign, I found this out. With FOW on, the computer seems to ignore my garisons in Norway. When I play the same scenario with FOW off, he sends his fleets to bombard my guys.
  6. I had a pretty nice win with the Axis. It was my first game, difficulty was normal, with no extra experience for the computer. I had Russia on neutral, so I was nicely prepared when I attacked. But since you killed 180 units already, I guess you're fairly advanced too, and have lots of units. So it might work for you too. Due to some lucky technology breaktroughs, I had most advanced fighters, with long range, and high level tanks. I had 6 experienced airfleets, later reinforced by 2 new ones. Lots of tanks and armies, and 5 HQ's. I forced breaktroughs attacking with my armies and kill off weakened units with my airfleets. Then I would drive my tanks trough, attacking thier air units and HQ's, and attacking weakened enemy units. I also landed 3 armies and a HQ near Leningrad. After the initial breaktrough it got quite hectic, the Soviets tended to hold on to their cities. With my armor I moved between the cities, surrounding them in German territory. After that they were easy pickings for my armies. Every time I had something stopping my advance I had my airfleets destroy it. Otherwise they were used to kill off weakened enemies. My tanks went almost straight for Moscow, stopping from time to time to let HQ's and some armies catch up. Once Moscow fell, I barely had resistance, only some mopping up. When you are fighting in an organised frontline, compose the line of armies, directly behind them tanks and HQ, and after that the airfleets. Break trough with your tanks, surround them, and they will fall fast. You may also want to try attacking Russia from the south. A lot of their industrial power lies there, undefended.
  7. In reality there was no way the Allies could land in Italy. They didn't have the right equipement, all troops available were shiped off to France, and there just wasn't time to plan an invasion. And even when they had the equipement, they wouldn't have been able to land their troops next to Rome, wipe out the Rome defenders and conquer the city in one week. The Italians would notice Allied troops preparing to invade, and have their fleet ready to stop them. In my opinion, landing in Italy that way is gammy, so is destroying their fleet at the spawn points.
  8. I wouldn't give Germany a tank unit. They only had very few tanks during WWI, and those tanks were inferior to the British and French.
  9. USA won WWII, on the long run, Germany has the second place. Western Germany is an economic world power, and the east is catching up with it now. Kuniworth is completely right. You shouldn't be hammering on Russia tough, I've bin there, and have friends there, things are getting better now, people are still poor, and crime rates rize, but the country is improving.
  10. Germany raised a very high amount of people. As pointed out, youngsters, old people, foreigners(part of the mpp bonus when you conquer a country). But also take in account the war took 6 years. Young people grew up during that time, a lot of the men wounded in action got back to the front. Prisoners might be liberated.
  11. For the invasion of England at the start, you can try to build a lot of airfleets fast, and kill their fleet with it. Or you can try to land all your forces in one turn, while having warships or ships with expendable troops on the 2 flanks. The AI will probably attack the ships at the flank first. That last one isn't very realistic tough.

  13. The French didn't realy forced Eisenhower to attack, they just attacked themselves, neglecting their orders.
  14. There was resistance in Norway, but I don't think there were partisans.
  15. 1) I'm not 100% sure, but I tought Norway was invaded by the Germans before joining the allies. The allies also send troops to Norway under the excuse of supporting the Finnish, but their real goal was to secure Norway from the Germans. The Germans were faster, puonded the allied troops back and took Norway. 2) As Mannerheim said, you're in charge of Italy, you control its invasions. 3) You can always attack it. That wouldn't change much, Vichy would be yours, and its colonies Allied. In reality, the Allies actually invaded the French colonies, and Vichy fought back. But the colonies fell quite quickly.
  16. I play most games. I liked CMBO, didn't play it cause I couldnt buy it here, only demo, but that was very good. I play shooters (realistic ones, where teamwork and tactics are involved) eg operation flashpoint and now americas army. I played the demo of strategic command, and i liked it very much. Intend to buy it as soon as i have money. I just play what i feel like playing at the moment. And im usually good at most games. Im very good with the shooters, and with strategy games, you guys would probably kick my ass as i never played them online, but i have no problem with the AI, and i have good insight. Ive been studiing military history for 10 years now, complete with tactics.
  17. Yeah your right, but I tought it's obvious you need some AT to fight tanks. I mean that it is possible. It also depends on terrain, tactics employed,... A normal equiped infantery unit, in well prepared positions, and with enough experience so they don't run away should be able to hold off a tank attack. Later in the war you needed infatery and artilery to attack enemy lines, tanks give support and take advantage of breaches in the line. Example: the 1st British airborne in Arnhem during market garden. They were fighting 2 tank divisions. A small British unit defended the bridge, and German armored attacks could not cross it, whatever they tried. In the city, the Brits took out a lot of German tanks, and the German infantery had to do all the hard work, tanks were used as support. The British had the terrain advantage, but take in account that they had no heavy AT weapons, and they were soon short on ammo for their PIAT's and 6-pounders.
  18. K, by the way you posted I figured there was this very important thing you could do with it. Like maybe units named all in capitals would be twice as strong.
  19. Indeed, infantery well dug in should have no problem stopping tanks.
  20. Try some different tactics. I'm no expert, so far I've only played the demo. To stop air attacks, I builded a lot of airfleets and gathered them all as close to England as possible. First I got their fighters, by sending an airplane to attack Londen I found out where they were, then I attacked the enemy airfleet with all mine and destroyed it. To get bomber fleets, I scouted with ships and then attacked in the same way when I found them. For the land war, try to get some HQ's and make sure you finish units. Don't leave a unit alone when it has only 2 strength left, use your airfleets to attack those weekened units. For the cheap russian units, you could have researched industrial technologie to. I didn't fought Russia yet, but this is what I got from reading the forum. Try to declare war to them, otherwise they get an MPP bonus. At the start of the war, give em a big blow. Use HQ's. Go fight in other places to gather MPP producing sites. Atticking minors doesn't need a big army and it increases your production. When defending, try to defend behind rivers or so. Have some reserves. That's about it, I hope it helps.
  21. Why wouldn't the US and Russia cooperate during WOII. The cold war had not started yet. It was Churchil who had problems with Russia, not Roosevelt. Only at the end of the war the relations weakened, when they were dividing germany.
  22. 'The AI also tends to follow the same script at the opening of some of the game's scenarios. For example, in the 1944 scenario, an Allied computer player always lands its forces at Normandy.' Isn't that exactly what happened in reality at that time? Maybe it's ment to be this way? 'When at sea, their position is not hidden from the enemy and they do not get any special advantage for striking first. ' Guy obviously never heard of FOW
  23. Been playing the demo here, hold france on normal the whole game. Brussels fell after a couple of turns, but i could establish a line of defence just behind it, the Canadian army could still attack Brussels from where it was. I brought in all British troops, and used them to defend against Italia, which they had no problem with. Allmost all point were spend on reinforcing the troops, but I could buy 2 British tank units after a while. My fleet got almost completely whiped out, as I couldn't spare the points to repair them, but they were a huge distraction for the german planes. I had a couple of lucky strikes, destroying a german tank, a corps and an army early, and my fleet got the Bock hq. At the end, my lines were being driven back, as their airforce didn't had my fleet to shoot at, and my airforce was completely down. I retreated to a shorter line, just before paris, then the demo ended. I had just gotten the second tank unit, so I think I could have hold the Germans till late summer '41.
  24. Hi, Belgian here too. Don't feel lonely.
