  1. Is there a different patch for the military version and the commercial version of the game? Dave
  2. A good place to start is the actual TacOps manual that is on the disk. You could also check out some of the military manuals included on the CD. Other than that, just play! I play a game now and then and am about 50-50 as far as winning and losing. Dave
  3. Well, I will be able to play in the game if there is still a spot open. I still have my English class that day, but should be home by 1200 MDT that day. I will join in on the IRC channel as soon as I get home and hopefully there will still be an open spot. Dave
  4. Sign me up as an observer-in-reserve. I'll join the regular Tacops channel and someone can direct me to the side which might need another player the soonest so I know who to observe. Dave
  5. Slagg: Sounds good. I'll let you guys know for sure when I find out what my work schedule looks like for that day. Hohenfels and Grafenwoehr... those are two places I saw lots of during my time there. I even pulled OC driver and civilian on the battlefield duty once. Fun, fun, fun! (No really, it was!) Dave
  6. No problem. If it wasn't for the change of jobs I'd be 100% for sure available after 11:30MST (I've got a college class on Saturday). I prefer blue side, but if I show up and red needs another person badly I'm open to whatever. I observed last CPX and am really anxious to get in some actual playing time. I'm sure we'll figure something out. BTW, what is the conversion from GMT to Mountain Time? Dave
  7. Well, I'm about to start working as a police dispatcher again, so not 100% sure I'll be free the whole day, but if I'm available I'll stop in on the IRC channel and see if there is room to squeeze me in on either side. It would be my first CPX game so I'd only want a unit or two until I get the hang of things. Dave
  8. Someone just told me how yesterday on IRC, but for the life of me I can't remember what they told me. How do I join the TacOps mailing list? Thanks in advance! Dave
  9. I'm using Windows XP Home version. It happened with several different scenarios. I'd picked solitaire play. And no, I didn't know I could reposition the window. If I've got time this weekend (it's drill weekend, so I probably won't), I'll reinstall the 2003 version of Norton's and tinker around a bit with it. Dave
  10. That'll work then! I don't think I'd be hosting more than one other player anyway with work and school taking up most of my time these days. Thanks for the reply! Dave
  11. I installed the newest version of Norton's SystemWorks and Norton's Internet Security last weekend. On Monday when I tried to run Combat Mission Beyond Overlord, it wouldn't work. I disabled both and it would work. Weird, I thought, but oh well! Anyway, I tried to run TacOps4 last night and I was able to get all the way to the part where you place your forces and nothing. The screen would sit there, I'd see the map, but I didn't have the window with the available units for me to place. I tried just about everything I could think of but I was unable to get any further in the game. I completely uninstalled both Norton's programs and TacOps4 worked. Not sure what the deal is, but I'm back to Norton's 2002 and both programs are working. Just thought I'd let you all know there might be a problem. Dave
  12. Just got an email from the AKC folks and checked out the site (it had been a while since I was over that way). Is the version of TacOps on the site the same as the one I bought? I've got TacOps4 right now and see the one on the site being referred to as TacOpsCav. Just curious if I should "upgrade" should they be different. Dave
  13. Well, I did disable the new software (Norton's SystemWorks 2003 and Norton's Internet Security 2003) and it still didn't work. So, I uninstalled NIS2003 and it seems to be working fine now. I'll reinstall that software to see if it doesn't work again and let you guys know. I have *no* idea why it would do what it's doing. I'll leave that to the programmers. Dave
  14. No, I've only got CMBO. Now I did install the newest version of Norton's SystemWorks 2003 and Norton's Internet Security 2003 this weekend. That could be it I suppose. I'll have to uninstall that stuff later this week and see what happens. Dave
  15. Hmmmm... I went to start up CMBO this morning to play my PBEM turn and get it off in the email and I can't get into the game at all. It starts up, I hear the music playing, and then returns to the desktop. The game is still running and I can click on the taskbar to go back in, but it jumps right back out to the desktop. To end the program, I have to use the Ctrl-Alt-Del keys and end task there. I've made no changes to the computer (that I can think of anyway) and this is the first time I've seen this happen. Anyone else have this problem? Dave
  16. In real life I think a commander holding a picture of enemy unit positions gained by an overflying aircraft is not out of the question. Dave
  17. Could be, it went by so fast (I keep forgetting to set the combat speed slower even though every single turn I watch I keep saying to myself to do that). Even for an M249 that's quite a shot, though! Not knocking the game, mind you. My fiance is probably getting tired of me spending so much time playing it. Dave
  18. Playing Task Force Moody 1 right now and one of my infantry units just shot up an OPFOR infantry unit at 1200+ meters! Not bad for a 5.56 rifle. Dave
  19. So, is there any way to create custom scenarios to be played by one person? Dave
  20. Yeah, I sat down and threw something together real quick and have a good idea how it works. However, I'm wondering how you set up a scenario to be played human vs. computer. When I tried to run my little scenario with like four units, it said I couldn't play it solitaire (or something like that... it was early). Still playing around with it. Dave
  21. I've been thinking about trying to create scenarios and I'd like to know what is the best way to create a map. I've read the map making .pdf file and it says to use a program such as Paint to draw the map and then the map making tool to create the .dat file. Does anyone have any tips on the best way to draw the map by hand (using Paint)? Dave
  22. Yeah, here I am surfing the TacOps forum when I should be studying for class tomorrow. After I get done here, I plan on playing around with TacOps4 some more. So much for getting anything else done tonight! Dave
  23. Nevermind. Found the answer on page 58 of the manual. Dave
