  1. I don't think it's correct that carriers suffers a casualty rate similar to the one taken by its airgroup. A carrier is much more valuable than an airgroup and should have a casualty rate proportionate to its value. Maybe a double value would be better? One for naval strength and one for airgroup. The strength of one can't be more than the other and have to be replaced seperately!
  2. You can do without bombers, but if you research a few advances and train a few units, they're real killers against naval units. Bombing cities and preventing the enemy from purchasing new units or operating units into them, is also very efficient! However, it is a problem that units will be targeted first if you bomb a city or harbour...
  3. The fact that Bulgaria, Hungary & Rumania doesn't join the Axis if you invade Spain is incredible harsh! If each country would have a 30% chance of not joining the Axis, then it would have been very interesting to keep on invading Spain...now it's not...at all :} I also think it should be a small possibility for that Spain joined the Axis cause. Maybe 10%... The more possible twitches the better!
  4. Axis player, expert +2, FOW, no undo, most negative settings on the other options. +331
  5. Installed V1.03 to check out the difference on my last endgamescore. Went from +161 to +331!!! From what I read, it'll become even more difficult with the latest updates!? Think I'll try that out sometimes later, had my fill of fighting elite units with greens <G>
  6. What about adding Graf Spee in the Atlantic for the 39 campaign? Let it represent the pocket battleships. It will give the Brits an interesting naval hunt at the beginning of the war, and the German player a chance to see if he can do better than Cpt Langsdorf ; Btw, why is there not a port at Odessa?
  7. I was a little surprised when I got SC without any form of copy protection. I actually questioned it, nonetheless welcomed it from a personal point of view. As quite a few here on the board has pointed out, playing SC on multiple puters without having to worry about where the cd is, is one of SC's charms! Introducing an ad hoc solution after the first patch has been released is impotent! It will not keep those not so die hard gamers, that most likely wouldn't purchase the game anyway, from finding a copy and enjoy the game without the latest patches. The only one that gets bothered with it are the loyal customers that now have to count cons & pros whether to intstall patches above 1.02 at all! Pleeeaze Hubert...take it away :=)
  8. Some like the daughter while others like the mother I think Battlefront is attracting a much bigger audience with this diversity...me for example <G> I don't like 3D games, and especially not those that are in real time!) So I was delighted to find SC.
  9. I've posted a few threads on this thema! It's very challenging to win the +2 game... I won the +1 game on my first try, but +2 was a lot more difficult. I've picked up advice from ppl and I'm starting to get the receipt right! Poland, Denmark & France by early summer 40. Then Norway, Sweden, Spain, Yugo by summer 41. If I garrison the Russian border properly, they doesn't declare war on me until september 41. Buying 5 research points and putting them on subs, jets, tanks, AT & production should give you a very strong hand! With 13-15 str subs, you buy 5-6 of them and join them up with the Italian fleet. As the Allies try to invade you sometime in 42, you're ready and sink everything you come accross! This worked fine the last time I tried, turned my 100% attention on Russia in 44-45. When the game ended in 46 I was unstoppable in my move towards the Urals. Won a +168 points victory without invading England or getting Russia to surrender... Hope this will be helpfull
  10. Yes I know the difference, thx for providing me with the right name for it. A tank hunter without a turret.., to be called a tank it needs a rotating turret, nicht war? Just semantics I guess, and again, I think the icons are great.)
  11. Nice work! Don't mean to be picky, I know it's your favourite...but the Jagdpanther is actually not a tank but a panzerjâger that belonged in the AT battalions :}
  12. Working hard to win the game as Axis on the most difficult settings... Got closer yesterday, got France, Denmark, Switzerland & Yugo after Poland. Invaded Russia and managed to capture Minsk, Kiev & Odessa before the Allieds massed airfleets bombed their way through France and sucked up all my resources. I think a combined German/Italian navy with advanced subs is the best means of stopping the allies. Took out most of their navy but ended up a little short and the armies swarmed ashore... 3-4 Pz Armies are excellent for swinging around Russian troops concentrations, as long as you remember only to attack with full strength units!! Very important since the reds are terrible powerfull on this setting. Defending on favourable positions and using the tank groups is a winning strategy, I know I'll make it but it can take some tome :} Anyone got a better tactic?
  13. I think that the discussion concerning what could be brought into SC to expand it is interesting, but it would be even more intersting to know what the designers think? So before throwing all my cents around, are you intersted in adding complexity to the game - like para's, weather zones, lend lease etc etc? My first impression is that the AI can be made even better. If it would try to invade Italy and other spots, and not only land around Brest..things would become more challenging. An option called 'Aggressive AI' could make it invade neutral countries and try every trick in the book. Well, back to the drawing board..gotta figure out how to conquer the world on expert+2 Vae Victis!
  14. Just tried the ultimate dificulty setting.. Expert +2exp for allies and all the unfavourable settings you can get :] Poland and Denmark fell easily enough..then the fun started! Got bogged down in the low countries, took me until march 41 to beat France out of the war:p Lost 1 tank, 1 army and 1 corps in the process. Had barely finished Yugo, which always seems to have a pro allied coup around mid 41, before Russia declared a preemptive war on me! Why is it so that Russia always declares war on the Axis in 41? It's completely out of the sky when it comes to the point of realism.... Would have been nice to be able to postpone Barbarossa into 42 on a bad day <G>. Well, I tried a short offensive..got smacked right back to the starting line. So there we stood for 2 years exchanging shots. The front never broke as I had 5 in research on AT weapons. What finally made me throw in the towel was that the Allies sneak marched a corps into the bombed out low countries, making the west front untainable. Will try to come up with a better strategy, think I need both that and a lot of luck to have a chance at all!
  15. On General difficulty level with partisans on and without liberation reinforcements on for the Axis, I do find myself on the short end of the rope now and then. IN COS very much decided by dice rolls... Taking out fortified cities in Russia sometimes takes to long. If the AI fortifies to many of his cities, it can be extremely difficult to get him out. The double moves is also devastating! Giving the AI the last move in one pulse and then the first move in the next one, allows it to close and eliminate pockets. The weather is also unpredictable, so is the length of the pulses. (1-10 turns, decides by weather and dice rolls.) It's this huge and uncontrollable ways of events that makes the AI so difficult to defeat now and then. Why I never really stopped playing it...) Taking a few of these things into SC would make it a even better challenge The side with the initiative gets the first move, this might change according to weather, time and resources. I think the AI would become a far more deadly opponent if this was incorporated....
  16. Played the Axis in a 39 campaign at expert +1 exp for allies. The Russians surrendered in late 43. It was a close call though, was on the brink of defeat for a little while. Not started the 'ultimate' challenge yet. I think you need both skill and luck to win that one. Research development is very unreliable and you need luck to get the advanced toys needed to counter such a high allied exp level.
  17. I've started a few pbem games, both as Axis. I'm really in the blue about the outcome but feel that the Allies with a good human player behind the wheel, will get the best out of a 39 campaign. Anyone with results of finished pbem games and recommendations on what settings to use to make it as interesting as possible for both sides?
  18. I loose interest in the game as soon as the USSR surrenders.... The outcome is a given cause after that! The only thing I'm after is the challenge. Last game I played as Axis on expert +1 exp for allies, knocked the Russians out in late 43. I can easily conquer the rest of the map, and the endgame score isn't really of much interest anymore. Will most likely start a new game and try another strategy. What I like is that the AI almost gets me on this difficulty level! The allied invasion usually comes when I'm in a critical stage in the war in the east. When my heavy investemnt in research failed me, I was almost bombed out of France ) Would have enjoyed the game even more if the AI could beat me now and then. Up until now he hasn't done it once... I lost plenty of times in Clash of Steel, and still does!
  19. Been experimenting more with the partisans. Placing 2 corps in Yugo helped for a while, but suddenly more appeared down south. Looks like 3 corps are needed..? Riga wasn't a troublesome area in WWII as most of the inhabitants were pro German but they certainly are active in SC! Transfered the corps on Riga to fill a hole in the line and voila, a partisan unit started IN the city!? (It's really difficult to get a 8 str partisan unit out of cities...) I keep on coming to the same conclusion, partisans are good for the game but their movement should be reduced to 1.
  20. I tried taking out Sweden & Norway at once after the fall of Poland and Denmark in early 40. (On expert +1 exp to allies) Used 1 HQ, 2 armies and 2 panzer groups + 3 airgroups. Spent so much time on this that it was august before I could turn to France. It all got very messy and I only defeated France in may 41, one turn after Russia decleared war on me ) Taking out Norway, then finishing of France, Yugo and Greece is more awarding...in my humble opinion I've not heard about anyone going for England after France in 40?
  21. I've experimented a bit with Africa... Cleansweeping the british fleet has always been a success with few losses. (On Intermediate +1exp for the allies). Use the sub and place it just east of Crete, this will make the brits send their carrier! When it clashes with the sub, send in the big wagons and finish it. It's been very hard work to get rid of the Brits in Africa. Last time I used 2 HQ's and 2 armies to do it. Depending on the sit in Russia I then either transfers all the units to the eastern front or attack into Iran.
  22. Started my second game from 39, increased difficulty level a notch, +1 exp to the Allies. Again I found the conquest of France, Norway, Denmark, Yugo & Greece very rewardable. I was still able to finish them all by summer 41. This provides you with a 440mpp's, that's essential for your survival. Especially since the Allies love to invade France heavily from mid 42. I chose random settings for all major powers this time. All German allies joined within 2 weeks of the historical dates. USSR declared war on the Axis 22\6-41 Beat me to it... The USA still declared war on me in the last day of november 41. Spending 1000mpp's on tank, AT, jet & rockets in 40 is also invaluable to handle the Reds. The russians are hard to kill with a +1 exp and they deploy rocket arty as well. I've almost been on the verge of stalemate a couple of times, but each time elite pz armies and good air\arty support has saved my day. Nothings like cutting of half of the red army with 4 tank groups and forcing him to withdraw his airgroups and cut of units Seems like you have to be a bit gutsy to get things moving again! The Mare Nostrum...as Muso loved to call it <G>, is actually rather simple to turn into a Italian puddle in this game. Killing of the allied fleets and occupying Cairo gives you a possibility of transfering most units East\West. I've even taken 3 BB's and a sub into the Atlantic to help the Germans stem of the waves of suicidal allied armies landing around Brest
  23. After placing 2 corps in Yugo, 1 on the capital and another one in the mountains in the NW, I havn't experienced any more partisans in the area. Not sure it's going to hold but at least it got Yugo bottled up. I guess we have to use the same receipt for mother Russia..) 2 corps in the vicinity of known partisan attacks. ..but I still think that their speed should be reduced!)
