  1. I figured I would try it for the heck of it. I started a game with begginner rules and no allied experience bonus. After poland fell I invaded Baltic states won. Shortly after Russia declared war and I made a pre-emptive strike. I made some progress but France invaded Low countries and went on to march its armys through Germany. Needless to say, I quit.
  2. Good luck getting it to work on a modern pc though.
  3. Actually, the wall idea was also shared by Rommel. He wanted the panzer divisions stationed near possible landing beaches, to push them back into the sea. Hitler simply comprimised between Rommel and Rundstedt and put them at the half way point. Rundstedt believed in the panzers as a reserve force, whereas Rommel knew the effects of Allied air superiority on soldiers. Thats why he wanted a minimum of travel time for the panzers to the beach after a landing. So I guess in hindsight, Rommel's idea, the wall, is best. 4. The Allied AI seems a bit of a better opponent in this version. The Russians build tanks (finally) and the Western powers actually pulled off a good D-Day. Cheers for that!
  5. It was a good game, but like many have commented, had poor AI.
  6. Well something should be done to limit the reseach accomplishable in one year. A very lucky opponent can really ruin a PBEM game.
  7. I do think HC tackled research and Dev better than this game. For example, if you got better tanks in HC, if I recall, all your units didn't automatically get them. Only new built units and perhaps reinforcements. That would prevent the invasion of Russia in 41 with King Tiger equipped Panzer divisions that can result from a lucky bout of research. (Or just plain replaying PBEM turns until you get a breakthrough cheating)
  8. Sounds interesting, but Russia has a hard time holding out against a human player. How far ahead did you bump Germany's technology?
  9. I never even thought about replaying turns over and over until you get a research breakthrough. That is pretty lame, if you have that much free time to spend just to win a game...well good for you. Something should be done to limit this or limit the amount of breakthroughs per year.
  10. Since the devs are looking at this thread, I feel that research needs looking at. It appears to be tied to conquests, and that gives Germany a huge advantage in the early games. In a current PBEM game my opponent, playing Germany, is invading my Russia with level 5 (!) tanks. I am sorry, but even if they did have the designs for King Tigers or Mauses perfected by 1941, they wouldn't be able to re-equip every panzer division with them in under a year. Perhaps there should be a limit to how much one can advance in any one field in a years time. Say one or two levels. Actually, I think that would be a big improvement, almost manditory.
  11. Yep I fondly remember CHQ! That was a fun game. It would be nice for someone to do a remake and update it to today's standards.
  12. IMHO the AI's strategy is to delay you in Russia with corps as long as possible until America and UK can launch a very early D-Day. All fine and dandy, except it usually handles D-Day very ineptly and it fails. My first game it caught me off guard and was able to draw enough away from Russia to cost me that campaign. Never again though.
  13. Let them join me of Free will with out a doubt, with the possible exception of Spain.
  14. I noticed that too while playing a hotseat vs my 16 yr old brother. The allies can keep the Germans out of Norway, and the French can usually hold out past '40. The only way I found to break the French line is with like 4-5 axis Luftflotte, but that takes precious resources away from research. When that mess is cleared up, Russia is either a nightmare or just plain impossible. All he has to do is hold out long enough with France and crank out Russian tank units when they enter, and he is nearly unstoppable.
  15. All good, but AI will never be as challenging as a human opponent.
  16. Yes I noticed that and the Russian AI never builds more tank groups. Both flaws should be addressed.
  17. I agree ... CD-in-drive checks are not preventing piracy, but rather only harass the honest customers. Straha</font>
  18. I too think that you must do Sealion early (before russia) to get spain to join.
  19. Bump, and also Russian partisans should not be able to rejoin russian lines and then be reinforced to a normal fighting unit.
  20. I agree and was considering that, but I find it a bit "gamey" myself. Mine as well turn them off totally. Axis should have trouble with partisans, but they should not be able to leave the homeland. They "liberated" Prague in what would have been my best game to date. I can just see a few hundred yugoslavian farmers brandishing old rifles and pitchforks taking it. [ August 04, 2002, 03:24 AM: Message edited by: Rediroc ]
  21. Oh yes I did have a garrison in Yugoslavia! The problem is, they just bypass it and "liberate" German cities. B.S. Please fix it.
  22. If I sound angry, its because I just had a good game ruined by this. I am sorry but Yougoslavian partisans should NOT be advancing into Germany or taking Prague! The Axis player has enough challanges and should not have to garrison every city in Germany to boot! Please limit partisans to their home country of limit ability to cap cities with them. Thanks.
  23. Letting Italy capture Paris and get the plunder is a "gamey" strategy at best. Very a historical, so I wouldn't worry about it.
  24. Remember the Germans were prevented, for the most part, from designing and testing tanks, airplanes and uboats during the pre-WWII years. Thats probably what cost them the war.
