  1. I used this tactic quite well against the computer (being the stupid thing that it is). In a QB I found a road running from inside my town straight out to the end of the map, cutting the enemy forces in 2. I sent a lot of my armor and a fair amount of my infantry down this road and made 2 boxes out of enemy. I'd gotten lucky, and most of the enemy armor was in 1 box, so I concentrated all my HE and arty into there. After toasting their armor, the rest of the infantry was helpless as I closed in from 2 sides. I highly doubt this would work against all but the dumbest human opponent, but it can confuse the enemy greatly.
  2. Maybe they decided to save the last 2 AP rounds incase a Tiger or something popped up. They thought they only needed HE to take out the PZ III. I know I'd like to keep some AP around just in case.
  3. There have been wild defensive hold offs like that in all wars. On the Western Front, the allies spent 2 days trying to attack a castle, sending hundreds of infantry at the castle, all held back. Only after a day of intense arty and tank fire did the 20 odd defenders surrender. You gotta love these kind of fights, thats why I hope they are in CM:BB.
  4. My saying is : "Your only as good as the person your playing" and that comes true for just about anything. I've lost sports games a lot where I underestimated the player and I started making mistakes. Same thing happens in CM. There's not a lot you can do about it. Spose I can't complain, I'm a newb aswell
  5. Thanks guys, tonnes of helpful hints here. I think I might use the flexibility strategy, just so I can get the best advance into town. He's probably gonna be packing a _lot_ of MG42's in the windows, should I just rain firery death on these before I move in or save my arty for something else?
  6. I've challanged my friend to a little game of CM:BO, and I need a few pointers. He's got Axis, defending a small town on a large map. I got allies attacking. Combined Arms, 1250 points. I've never attacked before against anything that wasn't the AI, so I'm really in a muddle. I was wondering about force compisition and how I should attack the town. I was thinking of splitting into 3 groups. A main group, a Diversion group and a Reinforcment group. He (my friend) is a bit of a fool, so the diversionary attack will really get him confused, but I was wondering if I should just combine my reinforcment and main group and just go at him with everything I have, or have a back up just in case. Also he'll come in with a lot of tanks, artillary and barb wire/mines. What would you choose for the force, and how would you use it? Thanks a lot, I need it [ July 24, 2002, 05:13 AM: Message edited by: [Pvt]Darth_grandma ]
  7. The GF4 MX isn't DX8 compliant, so you can't get all those cool pixel and shader effects. The Ti200 does have all that, and is a tiny bit faster than the GF4 MX. I'd say the Gf3 would be better, because it's more future proofed and a tiny bit faster. Also the other 64mb of ram will do a tiny bit better now, but in the future you should see some improvement over the 64mb counterpart.
  8. I was recently playing a game where I got a few flamethrowers, and I tried putting them on the offence, but they failed pretty badly at that, so I drew them back to a town. I decided to see if I could torch the building, so I targeted them. They shot away and it was immidetely set on fire, smoke coming off it. I didn't think this would do much, but I soon relised it blocked the LOS of some of their units, and let me move my tanks around a bit better. See, flamethrowers aren't completely usless
  9. I've only just stumbled across the demo of this game, and it's great. I've been looking for a game like this for ages, and I've finally found something that wont disapoint me like those 2d turn based games. I've spent many hours working out tactics etc, and I can't get enough of it. The real reason I'm posting this is to say why I think it's the best strategy game ever. All other games like this one, are so linear. That is to say, if you have the most firepower, you'll win. 10 guys will beat 5 guys of the same strength. In CM:BO, even the smallest units can take on the biggest, with the right amount of tactics. Rifle squads can take Tanks with a few well placed shots. It's a thinking mans game. Your probably already knew all this, I just thought I'd share it with you anyway
