It is the danish M23 helmet. Probably the ugliest helmet ever designed. I asked JM if he could make it for me - for a danish scenario I am planning.
Here it is on my grandad (on the right), approximately 1933.

A couple things might be considered equal too, but probably the only real advantage of the M60A3 would be the TTS (thermal sight).

I've got a 1980 Pentagon doc complaining that M60A3 without TTS doesn't perform measurably better than M60A1, and the author was fuming over the delay in getting TTS to the troops in Germany (while delivering a batch to Egypt first).

These AAR threads have me so stoked for this game, moreso than any previous CM title. It can't get released soon enough.  🤑

Congrats @The_Capt for winning this tough fight! In my opinion this has been one of the best beta AARs in recent memory, and the two of you even managed to finish it before the game released! Love how it came down to a final decisive exchange. I think the AAR has done a really great job of showing off the true peer-on-peer nature of CMCW, among many other positives.
To add to what Warren said, the T-62 is actually a pretty effective tank in this title. It is not massively outclassed by anything (no poor T-62s vs M1A1/2) and in many cases will outperform US armor. As a rule of thumb: Everything >>> M60A1.
The T-55 certainly feels like an "old" tank in CMCW, similar to the base M60A1. Both are completely outclassed by later variants/models of tanks present, and is really noticeable.

Those are wet weather boots, but at least by the time of Desert Storm they were authorized as NBC boots as well. The lace up boots that came standard with the chemical protective suit were notoriously hard to don correctly and tended to disintegrate under field conditions. It was normal to wear the wet weather boots instead as the were easy to use and were considered as effective as the chemical NBC boots.

I have just been studying the CMRT .bmp for the Soviet M43 uniform. I am determined to turn it into some early war version...
We'll use all our old tricks AND the new tricks to get us all back in the early war 40's for CM.
But ultimately we can only "alter-simulate" so much until we are displeased at what we see and it is not worth the departure from the norm. "Alter-simulate" is my new word I just made up. TM COPYRIGHT 2021 KOHLENKLAU LLC
If you play the CMRT Romania Mod teaser scenario, you will place what you are used to seeing against what we alter-simulate. I hope you are not displeased.

The M60A1 & M60A2 had a stereoscopic rangefinder which uses two eyepieces and relies on the tank commander to spin a range wheel until the two images merge into a single picture.  When you had a sharp single image, it gave you the range to the target in meters and mechanically adjusted the gunner's sights to that range.  The TC then gave the fire command (in this case 1,500 meters) as, "Range one five hundred meters.  Fire!".
To save time and insure first round fired, veteran tank commanders and their gunners would pre-set the rangefinder to a "battlesight" range; either 1200 or 1600 meters depending on SOP.  As soon as the gunner "Identified" the target in his sights, the TC fire command would be an immediate, "Battlesight, fire!".  The gunner would check for "Burst on Target", re-aim to the point of impact and fire again until TC declared, "Target destroyed."

Thank you, but this is more than just my idea... @The_Capt has been working with me since the beginning on this project and it was our brainchild, not mine, ours.
In addition @IICptMillerII has been a boon since he joined the core team, managing scenario development and doing a ton of research and testing.  There are also a few special people like @George MC, @Pete Wenman, @Combatintman to name just a few that have contributed some serious content, from campaign, scenarios, maps, quick battle map development, etc. to this project.
    Cheers, Bil

I'd like to see 1983 included just because it was the year we really risked the third world war; 1985 is also interesting (new pieces of kit: 120mm armed Abrams, reactive armour on Soviet tanks etc,). Indeed the decade 1979-1989 saw the introduction of many new weapons systems, especially in land warfare, just to keep up with the new ammo types for the same gun (just consider the kinetic penetrators used during this decade in the US 105mm gun: M728, M735, M774, M833; M900) would be daunting!

I have 6 weeks of vaca this year (a bonus from the company), and I can't think of anything better than:
    a) playing CMFR,
    b) finishing my map et al based on scans of Library of Congress maps "L-37-6-B Dmitrijewka" (covers Dmitrijewka and Stepanowka). Gotta find the right units and books about that area, and build a scenario/campaign.

Probably not OpenGL-related but "zig-zag" roads kills the graphics experience a lot for me. There is a huge difference if you play the game at camera level 3-4 and 1-2 where the game can truly shine. I will always appreciate gameplay over graphics but I would sure like a revamp of a lot of graphics. I must say that the stock graphics have improved a lot since BN was released so there is still room to eek out more from the current state of things.

I grew up just 8 km from the inner-german border and never felt any fear or such - today I think that is strange.
Just the opposite, there are many nice memories concerning the military of that time. We often had the 16/5th Queens Royal Lancers on exercise at the farm of my father. They were stationed at the town of Wolfenbüttel nearby and everybody loved to see them, my mother because we talked english all day, the soldiers because they had warm places to sleep and a shower, and my father because he had an agreement to get a bottle of Famous Grouse for each day of their stay. We did things you never get elswhere, driving a Ferret Mk1 (I called it armored Dune Buggy), a Scorpion tank and even firing a Sten SMG on the meadow behind the barn. Once my father and me visited their barracks for some claybird shooting and the officers invited us to the officers mess. Wow, never saw so many silver cups and a living tradition like that.
When I served at PzAufklBtl 1 (Armored Recon) from '79 to '83 (just the proper time for this game) we were not even allowed to keep our battalion coat of arms, it was from the Black Hussars from Brunswick who fought with the British against Napoleon, but was too similar to the SS sign. That happens to military traditions when you loose your wars.
At that time I met kind guys from the 2nd Armored Division on Reforger exercise near Brunswick and found some nice friends there (Cpt. Hutto somewhere around here?).
And I served as contactperson for the team of 1st The Queen's Dragoon Guards during the Boeselager Cup, an international competition among reconaissance forces. Still remember the 'Biwak' on the last evening.
One day I heard the sound of a Huey helicopter nearby and it did not disappear. So I looked for the source and found some thee or four Huey Cobra hovering directly at the outskirts of the village. I immediatly fetched my brothers and we tried to follow them with my Renault R4. Tough job, soon they were gone. But suddenly they reappeared one after the other over a ridgeline and took my car as a training target. Oh, man, that was exciting. I tried to make their job as difficult as I could but these helis were really fast and agile. I would love to ride one of those, must be like a flying Kawasaki.
I think Germany really lost something important with all these kind soldiers who are gone now and with them the BFBS radio and the British Wargamers Association with which I had so nice times at Rheindahlen and elsewhere.
And, by the way, a german Recon Btl was a complete all arms force in '79, ideal for a Bundeswehr expansion one day. There was a ground surveillance radar plt, two companies with Luchs and Leopard1, and a heavy company with grenadier plt (on Schützenpanzer kurz, later Fuchs), engineer plt, and 120 mm mortar plt.
And now I am here, working as an engineer on military simulation and looking forward to my retirement next year being excited to have all the time necessary to play my favorite game then, CM:CW.

That is why they are in the M60A1 (RISE Passive) for the '82 campaign, but M60A3s and M1 do show up as reinforcements.  I think people will be surprised by the ol M48, it is actually not a bad tank so long as you treat it more like a Sherman.
