  1. Just finished a good book called Death Traps, unfortunatly have taken it back and do not know author now. He was the liason officer resposible for getting damaged tanks repaired and replacements back into fight. In a nutshell our tanks stunk and because the crews were so shot up we ended up grabbing infantry with as little as 3 hours training putting them into battle. Small wonder hit percentages were what they were. Only our ability to repair and lack of fuel for Germans made ther difference in armor
  2. On defend with Axis keep close control with hq to allow faster response to conditions, also put lower firepower or less experienced units out to make contact. On attack same thing except I have found you can spread out in a line sideways better than a single file advance. I also try to not put in too many movements that will go long into the next turn. Use withdraw rather than sneak or crawl to get out of a bad spot. With Allies they seem to be better using flanking movements and using 1 squad to cover fire and move 2 up. I suggest playing Grafenwar training for infantry tactics you really have to use los and movements carefully.
  3. I just created my first map/scenario. The setup is for Allies to use trucks for convoy to move infantry quickly. I played as Germans defending and all the trucks did was move around a little bit until I took them out with mg and at gun. It doesn't matter except to gain knowledge if AI could figure out empty trucks could be filled with troops.
  4. I cannot finish making my map while creating scenarios even small 800x800 size. I run up to the edge and cannot continue past what is on my screen, the unfinished areas show up when I preview but will not let me move into them. Windows 98 for what it is worth. Also can you create map then save to add units later for a scenario?
  5. I bring 81's up early and use for smoke and putting on isolated positins like mg's. Then I will move them back and wait for bigger engagements to occur. Definately keep them for the end when ammo and morale is low if you are going to advance on a flag that is weakly held or still open to take. Keeping them hidden and close to command los is critical since everything will fire on them when they are spotted. I have always liked them in fights.
  6. Slow down, divide the battle and map based on size and number of turns. Go back and play traing battles that emphasise your weak points.
