I found the best way to play the AI in a quick battle is to choose Assault with the AI being the assaulter..This gives them more forces than you and makes a very interesting game..I would stay away from artillery pieces because everybody and their mother targets these thangs..I lost my 150mm gun every time before it fired a shot, I even hid it behind a ridge way in the rear attached to a gun tractor waiting for my tanks to clear any threats before bringing it up and it still got hit behind the ridge..
  2. I had a Tiger rendered immobile by a artillery hit just below a nice little hill so I came up right behind him with another Tiger I pushed him up enough where he had a lovely view of the oncoming assault force and that Tiger crew earned their Iron Crosses that day.. Dave

I've tried several scenarios using just British tanks and didn't fair too well at all..and whats up with the one that has the 290mm gun that only shoots 200 yards?..after finding out that this POS only had a 200 yard range I just sent it after German infantry out of sight of their tanks....I figured the blast effect of this gun would equal a 300mm rocket but it really didn't and caused little damage to the troops..they just walked on over and knocked it out..

I think the Tiger in this game had to be neutered to give the Allied players a chance of winning because there is now way hell this thing keeps getting its armor penetrated by BB shooting piats..It will probably be neutered even more when the T-34's come..I guess they have to do it because no-one would play the Allied side

  6. I think armor quality also comes into play here...so with that added to the equation a T-34 has 1mm..

I mainly did these tests for my style of playing against the AI..I'm not worried about side hits or if the turret turns too slow..I just want alot of effective armor for the least amount of points..Basically I just plant 10-15 Hetzers on hills and blast all the enemy armor off the face of the map before they move 2 feet, then I putter on down and mop things up..If its a late war battle I might add a couple of Kingtigers or JagTigers for those pesky Pershings..

Forgot to add that I also tested the JagPanther...all Shermans Jumbos or otherwise were no match for this beast..the Pershings however killed the JagPanther every time with one hit(no ricochets)but if I hit the regular Pershing first I was able to take it out..the Super Pershing was another story, that sucker has some thick frontal armor

Its the little Hetzer..its cheap with a respectable gun and excellent slope on frontal armor..Did numerous tests today on a flat treeless map (500 to 700 yards)against Sherman Jumbo 76mm gun(156 frontal armor), Sherman Jumbo 75mm gun(156 frontal armor), the other various regular Shermans, a Pershing..all tests where done with the tanks facing each other...On the plain Shermans both with the 76mm and 75mm gun were no match for the Hezter, they were killed every time with no damage to Hezter with numerous shells bouncing off..the 76 did cause Armor flaking but their frontal armor was so thin that the Hetzers gun finished them off in a couple of hits...The Sherman Jumbo with the 75mm gun just bounced shells off the Hetzer also but the Hetzer bounced every shell of the Jumbo too, ended with each running out of ammo..the Sherman jumbo with the 76mm gun bounced numerous shells off the Hetzer and the Hetzer did like-wise but after like 8 ricohets(some with armor flaking) the Hetzer bought the farm..no armor flaking observed on Jumbo..Now the Pershing blew my little Hetzer up every time with one hit but when I did manage to get a hit(before blowing up)I knocked out the Pershing most of the time..I would recommend 2 Hetzers on a Pershing

I found out that the AI doesn't like bridges..I set up a few bridges for the Allies(AI) but they ended up in a tangled mess trying to cross one..a few units went to sniff the other bridges but they didn't seem to like them so they came back to that one bridge..also there was one Sherman who kept on going and coming back over the bridge(thats all he did..back and forth)..another Sherman just stopped in the middle..all that really managed to get over was a bazooka team..I got fed up and fired 300mm rockets at the stinkin bridge and wiped them all out

I received the game about a month ago and have been playing it quite regularly..it is the best wargame I've played so far but it has some very irritating quirks which I will list.. 1.tank gunners track targets that they shouldn't and they end up getting their butt blown up when a real target comes along and they take 20 years turning their gun around(the tigers are the worst) 2.when I give an order to a squad to go to a certain place they continue to walk even when they run into enemy fire "hey you schmucks, hit the dirt and fire back" 3.In operations, why the hell after each battle are all of my troops moved out of positions I fought hard to defend?..it ticks me off when I have a panzerfest dude hidin nicely behind some bocage next to a road where the tanks are coming and after that battle hes moved and theres no way to get him back there.. 4.what is up with these piats?..those little pieces of crap might be able to damage to a track but they always seem to keep penetrating the hulls of King Tigers at alarming rates 5.I think the AI is cheating because their spotters always seem to have a line of sight to my most valuable equipement 6.whats up with this mortar guy?..seems like hes dropping dirt balls on the enemy causing no damage that I can see.. 7.I think if a 150mm HE round drops right in the middle of a squad, there should be alot more than just 2 out of 12 killed.. 8.why do some of my squads stop firing?..they have a clear target but I have to go back to them after each turn and manually target for them. I think thats about it : )

After playing CM for a while and finding pretty much the Germans outnumbered by a wide margin in alot of these scenarios kind of got me thinkin..did we really have these great Generals of WW11 kicking the enemys behind with brilliant tactics (Patton,Bradley..etc..) or was it pure American propaganda?...The way I see it, it looks like they just threw vast numbers of equipment and men at the Germans and defeated them by pure numbers.. sort of like what Grant did in the Civil War..   14. You know computers Schrullenhaft...a start up line for my HP printer was causing the problem..unchecked it and no more problems, printer still works fine too..you DA MAN.. Thanks Dave

I have 98SE, did a flash update on my bios..I really don't know what programs are running, how do you find that out?...I don't see the hard drive light go on when this happens so I don't think its that..just happens every 4 seconds like clockwork all the time no matter what program I'm in Dave

I pan the screen when I'm playing and every 4 seconds theres like a momentary stop to the panning..does the same thing when I use the keyboard..it also does it in my other games..in fact it does it when I'm on my plain windows desk top screen and move the mouse cursor around ..it does it every four seconds also..I have a dell pentium 3 800mhz, 256k ram, geforce 2 mx 400 64ram...I know its not the video card because it did the same thing when I just had the onboard video that came with the system..it doesn't bother me much playing CM but when I'm playing a flight sim , its a pain in the arse ..anyone have a few clues? I have a p3 800mhz with a Nvidia Geforce 2 mx 64mb card, 64 k ram in system..In the all or nothing scenario the game bogs down bad, I can't even pan the area when the battle is going on..its pretty much unplayable..any way to speed things up?..I would have figured the system I have was plenty fast for this game..help
