  1. Kinda funny when you think that I own all of the the top 10 games and CM is still the one I am playing while the others are collecting dust. My top 10 would have included CM, as all of ours would have. Just for innovation... but then again, not mainstream enough.
  2. Hehe, yea I do that all the time. I'll look at some buildings and think or a Tiger rolling between them or a crest of a hill that would be perfect for hull down. As far as the whole painter thing... I will say it again. Playing CM makes you appreciate your surroundings more, just like a painter. I do think this "somehow" prepares you for war...
  3. We have already covered this... any lighting effects; flares, town light, spotlights, are definatly out. Flares were the most "needed" as spotlights and town lights weren't too common. Any town light were wither knocked out or non exsistent due to Russia's "backwardsness"...
  4. Hey, I've always doubted mines... until I was playing and attack/defense with some guy who was defending a town. The sneaky bastard placed a land mine right in front of the first flag and left it pretty ungaurded... I had an entire platoon nearly wiped out because they ran over some of the mines. The faster your men move the more damage mines cause.
  5. if only there was no eastern front.... the allies would not have stepped foot in germany. If you think about it... German forces held off the entire West for some time with a VERY VERY depleted army. If you were to put Germans in the place of allies from d-day to berlin would have taken 3 weeks.
  6. I response to CombatGeneral... I think that CM would definatly help in the real world. I am not talking about what type of man a general is... sure, character has alot to do with a General, but we are talking about basic infantry unit command so that whole character thing had nothing to do with what I meant. Combat Mission gamers have an "eye" for combat. Take painter as an example, a normal person looks at a landscape and sees trees, rocks, etc etc. A person who paints alot looks at a landscape and they see every little detail. Colors, textures, everything jumps out at them and they apply it to painting (even if they are not painting, it becomes second nature)... Now take your enemy (a DOD player or whatever) and show them a village. They see buildings, trees etc etc... You take a CM player and he is already placing his guns in concealed areas and already planning out an ambush of some sort. Don't any of you tell me you've ever looked at a scenery and imagined placing units Now, of course some things do differ, as CM is just a simulation, but I think after awhile the FUNDAMENTAL tactics and ideas simulated in the game become second nature. So, I DO think that a Combat Mission player would be in a much better condition to command a real life force than a DOD player, or any person for that matter.
  7. Mmmm, if only they had computers with CM on them in 1935... the russians i think would have benefitted ALOT.
  8. Hey, Of course it would... think how superb a General who has played combat mission would be. All the stuff you needed to learn to become a general, in WW2... CM includes alot of it. We would no about terrain analyzing, placing weapons in good spots etc etc. Inf movement and so many other things. Of course... we would be out of shape, and not ready for "real" combat but like I said... tactics wise (on small inf scale) we would be solid.
  9. Hey, I was just wondering... what if... a war broke out and the only people summoned to fight it were Combat Mission gamers. The enemy... has played nothing but Day of Defeat his whole life and is alot stronger. All of us were organized one morning and a it would be up to us to get organized and issue commands (squad leaders, etc etc)... I wonder who would win. Or maybe if we were all warped back o 1943 and we had to hastily go into battle. How would we fare? I think the answer to both I think, is pretty darn good. Of course many of us would break, and cry but tactics wise, we would be superb...BTS software has taken a bunch of whiny, pathetic, gamers and turned them into mini Rommels... umm thanks. Well what I'm getting at is: THANKS YOU BTS FOR TURNING ME INTO A KILLER!
  10. Yes... I agree Luftwaffe, some sort of rarity system would really help. Since Germans were heavily out numbered... it would be better to see fresh german units be more hard to come by.
  11. Mmmmmm... I didn't think about that at all. Since Combat Mission simulates a squad of men, ducking under a tank to take it out would be pretty stupid. I don't think 10 men would get in one hole to take out a tank. However since we are on the topic of Forgotten Soldier... I don't know who to believe. I have read some good points about it being false but also some good points about it being real. There is a website for CM and about Frontovik (if i remember correctly) that has some good arguments. Although it does seem a little "Ramboish" I felt that it was pretty darn good. An old man can easily forget minor details such as town names, and divison numbers, maybe even the arm his patch was one Fact or ficton, it was a darn good book.
  12. I'm not refering to movies here... I have read numberous accounts of this happening in real life. Tanks would roll over trenches with troops under them. My question was not if troops could take out tanks or not... Will tanks be able to roll over trenches? With troops in them? Who could possible use some of these tactics to then knock them out?
  13. Hello, Will digging in before tanks be included in CMBB. Many tanks were taken out using this method: Letting the tank roll over you (who are in a hole) and then sticking a charge behind it. Sort of like a human land mine is what I mean. Another way to solve this I guess could be to let tanks roll over trenches, as I think trenches are included in CMBB. Could be interesting... Nasty human vs tank warfare was really important on the Eastern Front.
