Redundancy with regard to unit modeling
Thin Red Line replied to PlatCmdr's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
This could be a interesting task for the modders : offer accurate versions of each vehicules which re-use another model parts. This could be done with CMMOS. For exeample, through CMMOS, depending on the game he is playing, the player could switch from PzKpfW 38 (t) graphics to PzKpfW 35 (t) graphics , because they currently use the same bmp's while in reality they are different but the shape is quite similar. Another exeample is the flamethrower tanks, for them modified guns graphics could be use with CMMOS. Just my 2cts. -

Faster PBEM required

Just out of curiosity, why this veto ? Would a computer favour its owner's side or what ? -
Jahnsfelde AAR - spoilers-
Thin Red Line replied to DBaron's topic in Combat Mission - Scenario Talk
*****SPOILERS**** In your AAR You're asking for alternative tactics. Here's mine : I played this one only one time, in PBEM, as therussians. I chose to target area woods with tanks out of LOS of the guns. In the mean time, my infantry was progressing on the road toward the german positions . Whan i was sure that the threat was anihilated, i rushed my tanks to the flags. I lost a lot of T-34, especially during the reinforcements turns, but i finally won a minor victory. Most of my tanks were out of HE ammo at the end. Vey nice map. -
Is this the Tiger I we see in CMBB?
Thin Red Line replied to Alarmer's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
I also believe it was not a typical battle in early war. -
Is this the Tiger I we see in CMBB?
Thin Red Line replied to Alarmer's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
Alarmer, It has been discussed a thousand times, but a few thoughts. 1) How historical is a meeting of 3 PIII 50mm with 3 T-34s modele 41 ? 2) Does your historical sources describe a battle of PIII 50mm vs T-34s modele 41 and state penetration is impossible ? If yes, what are your sources ? 3) Why is your opponent coming as close as 500m if penetration by 50mm AP is not possible in-game above than this range ? If i were him, i would safely kill your panzers from 1500m away... 4) If you haven't done it yet i recommend you to play 'Katukov strikes back' and 'The Gate keepers' scenarios from the cd (against human of course) as the Germans. I learned much from them Regards Nicolas -
B&T scenarios not on the Depot
Thin Red Line replied to Thin Red Line's topic in Combat Mission - Scenario Talk
SP Glimmer of valor is missing too. -
I've played 20 scenarios until now (most from the cd, started B&T scenarios recently) in PBEM and reviewed them all. Unfortunately english isn't my first language so sometimes it's difficult to render all my impressions en finesse . I think non-english speaking players don't review because they simply can't... Anyway, i always encourage my opponent to review too. [Edited to add that i have enjoyed most of the scenarios i've played, quality is generally high, many thanks to the authors]. I think Andrew TF soviet HT is really needed in CMMOS. -
Game type selection pictures/greyscalemod
Thin Red Line replied to BaD JoKe's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
Nice ! This one was really needed. -
I think the graphical representation of the gun angle is just an abstraction. The slope may be in reality not a steep as what is shown in-game, hence the actual angle of the barrel no so large. And i hope we will not see the end of tanks ambushed behing ridgelines, because it is a common tactic in real tank warfare.

Ineffective small-cal penetrations
Thin Red Line replied to Gutshot's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
I've seen crew injured and HTs abandonned due to intense AT-rifle fire. But i've never seen the two members of the crew both killed by tungsten bullets. [ January 24, 2003, 08:43 AM: Message edited by: Thin Red Line ] -
I salute my talented opponent for this action too, and i humbly recognized my defense skills are limited, but since this scenario is an urban fight in fog and snow with no more than a few yards of visibility, well planned anti-tank warfare is somehow difficult to put into practice. I predict most of the tanks vs infantry actions of this battle will be really close. I share your moods about the effect of cannister round against infantry in buildings. I'm currently playing a Stalingrad Pack scenario where a T34 eliminated a full squad (9 men) in a heavy buiding with one shot (distance 20 or 30m). Three turns later, a full russian squad (11 men !!!) in a heavy buiding is knocked out ( eliminated ) by one cannister shot from a panzer (not identified) at 20m. If the infantry is in open groud, or even woods, i understand the weapon lethality, but shouldn't heavy buildings stone walls be able to stop the pellets ?

I agree you need some experience and time to get the convoys started without traffic problems

Sure but potential users of the map should be warned they 'd better bring motorized units if they want to have a chance to meet each other during the game

CM and "The Forgotten Soldier"
Thin Red Line replied to JeremyCupit's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
I remember reading The Forgotten Soldier (in the original french version) at age of 17. It was an amazing plunge into Eastern Front. It is an extraodinary book, and in literature the debate about autbiographical authenticity is always somehow secondary. (Did Dante really visit Hell ?) The Forgotten Soldier is a reading of great interest to all the CMBB players. -
