I heard they were going to fix the low res mod exploit allowing projectiles to miss more readily.

Only my gameyness can win the battle...
Herder replied to DevilDog's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
*shrug* Impossible things happen in QB's. I was going to start a thread on some inconsistencies I have noticed. Computer can buy a weakened battalion too, something I haven't been able to figure out how to do. I really notice this type of situation when playing small point, clear battles. I have never seen this situation using overcast. Just my 2cents. -

Interesting read. Sounds like the computer picked fighter-bomber support, about 200pts, plus your 100 would be 300 total. Sadly, I guess you never saw your plane. I have noticed the computer likes to select a fighter-bomber if you are the allies and its a clear day. I select overcast to avoid the computers penchant for airpower. -
I wouldn't mind seeing an option to use Marco's rules for single player engagements where CM forced the player to use the rules. I think it would add a lot. Basically marco's rules (can't remember where I saw them) were that you could only use the +/- keys to select units, that you could only use levels 1/2/3 view mode basically, weather options forced on, etc, etc. This would go a long way to making the battlefield more "mysterious".

While not nearly as accurate as CM, Sudden Strike is a neat little fun game that allows you to mod parameters of units to a better historical feel IIRC. Sudden Strike isn't a "serious" game IMO. Tedium is there in spades as well but it can be a "fun" game. The graphics are neat as well. I hear Sudden Strike 2 is making some strides in the realism department. Will be interesting.

A new years resolution: No more QBs!

Some things about Quick Battle I dislike: -Inability to preview map before unit purchase. -Inability to randomize almost all settings. -AI doesn't appear to set up properly IMO. I hope I can explain this correctly...I think quick battles would be a lot better if you could start it as a 2 player game, do the setup for player one, save the game, let it sit for 5/6 days, and then pull the saved game up again. In that space of time, you will have forgotten how you set up the original time. Now you set up team 2's units and allow team 1 to be played by AI. If you can do this now could someone please advise how? -
An odd Chambois question...I think
Herder replied to Herder's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
It's an excellent scenario and thanks for the Scenario Update. The first time I played it I changed the starting locations. The second time I played it, I accepted the default starting locations and it became a different situation. -

An odd Chambois question...I think
Herder replied to Herder's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Ok, either I'm losing my mind or you are. Odds say that I'm losing my mind but I wouldn't know annything about that. The briefing states that the poles were moving to Chambois but took the wrong turn, ending up in Champeaux. However, if the map is Chambois but the poles went to champeaux by mistake, which is the whole basis for the scenario, then who are these Poles that are in Chambois? Its all very confusing and keeps me pinned here, much like a bazooka team. Sorry I missed your reply, I must have taken a break to use the restroom, won't happen again. -
Wild Bill, I am looking forward to playing this scenario, not only for an historical perspective but the entertainment value. However, as I accepted the "default" placement of my digital axis followers, I couldn't get over the one nagging question. Shouldn't the town name on the map be Champeaux? It's marked Chambois which creates a bit of a paradigm. Please advise because I am staring at the monitor hitting refresh until I see a reply. Thanks

Bah, I got my hopes up Saturday morning when someone above said they got theirs in the US mail in 3 days. Wasn't there :/ -
I remember playing Gary Grigsby's Pacific War, Eastern Front and Western Front games and remarking how many losses the Nazis and Soviets took compared to the Western Front. Western Front seemed tame by comparison. On another note, wonder how hard it would be to write an interface that would generate tactical battles in CM from another strategic level program like Western Front?

How did I find this post? I'm just glad I did. I was thinking about downloading a mod and giving in to godless paganism. Yes, a high res mod. Can you imagine if I actually *played* someone who was exploiting against me? Have they fixed that "monitor" exploit yet? Stealth mode is just a little much for a world war two game.

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome. I can see I am going to need a translator if I am going to understand some of you. I ordered the game last night, now I just have to wait. I spent 4 hours on the first Demo mission last night and looking forward to getting the full version. See ya around.

CMBO/CMBB Anthology of useful posts!
Herder replied to markshot's topic in Combat Mission - Tips and Tricks
Being a total newbie here I think I can make a good suggestion. I am playing the Demo now (ordered the full version, but have to wait ). If some of you old timers gave some tips on how to play the two scenarios provided it would go a long way to helping me and others into this highly complex game. Just a suggestion. I look forward to reading as much as I can in the near future. -
Panzerman: A mode I can see my final post in case I made a mistake. I was hoping the edit markers would be enough context, heh. JonS: Thanks for the link. I have some reading to do. A little overwhelmed atm. Last wargame I played was one of the Panzer General titles and I sorta quit them in disgust as SSI was crashing and nothing was looking good on the horizon. I still have Grigby's titles on the HD even today.

Hello everyone. Just heard about this game. I am a die hard wargamer. I would have to say that my favorite wargames are Gary Grigsbys titles. The attention to detail, detailed statistics, smooth and realistic play is what had me hooked. I see that this game has some of those same features but on the tactical level. I'm pretty excited. I have always thought it would be neat to combine Grigby's Strat level game with a realistic Tac level game. Can you imagine your TO&E for a scenario being determined by the results of a higher level strategic game? Anyway, I digress. I have also enjoyed reading the helpful and humorous posts here on the board. I was pretty excited to register to say hi(that's a first) until I read the part in the agreement about not calling anyone's mother a hamster. I think I can control myself though. Still playing the demo so wish me luck. ps. no preview mode? [ 12-04-2001: Message edited by: Herder ]</p>
