  1. I'm glad things appear to be slowing for CMSF already. I don't begrudge BFC any cash or anything, but the sooner you all stop buying/playing this, the sooner they'll give us something that can actually be called Combat Mission again.
  2. "Been workin in a coal mine, goin down, down, down. Workin in a coal mine--WHOOP--about to slip down..."
  3. Duplex Drive seems pretty... self-explanitory to me, to be honest. </font>
  4. Was it? I thought it was "Duplex Drive"....which is a rather accurate name for the propulstion system at least....if not giving anythign away about it's ability to sink... </font>
  5. I'd take B as well. In fact, I was only interested in this because of B.
  6. It's probably not money. I say the shift to the CMx2 engine for most of the CM fan base is taking precedence over any CMx1 related project. Hence, if it wasn't fully dead before CMSF, it very likely is now.
  7. I'd be game if it didn't look like this thing weren't dead. I'm a ROW II vet. Fought it out with ya'll as "Vader's Jester".
  8. Or how the "DD" Sherman was designated such to hide what it really was as well.
  9. Cid, Those fanatical attacks are pretty typical for any fan base these days. Try going on a Star Wars site and attempt to debate why the new movies sucked. Try going onto a Republican site and argue Democratic values (or vice versa). The Combat Mission fan base in no different. That’s not to say that there aren’t some members in here that can’t hold a good and insightful debate, but trying to debate with the majority all at once will get you nothing but flamed. It’s been like this in here since Beyond Overlord, and I am shamed to say that I have jumped in on more than one insult fest against anyone that spoke out about my beloved CM. As far as BFC goes, they are pretty pig-headed about what they want their games to be. We as a community of gamers have influenced them on a number of issues though (despite their “this is how it’s going to be and you’ll like it” outward stance) so don’t get too frustrated over the whole thing. Like I said, I don’t think it matters how much we discuss what we hate about CMSF. I think their bottom line is going to reflect how we feel about the game, because I just don’t see this product selling anywhere near as successfully as the CMx1 games did. If they don’t embrace what originally made the games such gems, then oh well—time for the rest of us to move on. They’ll have their smaller following and smaller sales, and all of us will have had the excellent experience that the CMx1 games gave us. The only thing I can agree on with BFC on this cycle is their new marketing strategy. They would have made a KILLING if all the CMx1 games had just been a single core game with dozens of modules to give us the “ultimate and complete WWII experience!”
  10. Finn, 60 seconds is nothing. Most turns in traditional war games take place over much longer periods of time than they do in CM. Take The Operational Art of War for example. A single turn could represent something like six hours up to a full week depending on the scenario parameters. And before you say, “Yeah, but that game simulates operational level play,” think again. There were some scenarios that simulated a mere battalion with support elements, just like CMx1 can. If I want real-time play, then I’ll go with something like Starcraft or Rise of Nations (both very good games in their genre), but that’s not why I play CM. I play it for the reasons BDC stated in the CMBB text I quote above. WEGO is a better system for the type of war game BFC makes. If they were doing something much smaller scale where you controlled one squad (like Brothers in Arms or the original Rainbow Six) then I’d say hell yeah to real-time. But they’re not. They’re trying to simulate company and higher tactical operations, and moving a series like that to real-time is a mistake. In the end I think they’re going to see this for themselves. I think all of our whining isn’t going to matter, because they’re going to understand what did and didn’t work with CMSF (and I’m not talking bugs, I’m talking game mechanics), and they’ll make the appropriate shift back to WEGO while advancing the series in a logical and progressive direction. I see CMSF as an experiment in the CMx2 series--an experiment that BFC is using to flesh out some new ideas. In time, I think they’ll announce that they’re leaving true real-time behind, because none of us wanted that to begin with. All we asked for in those terms was full movie playback for an entire scenario. They’ll compare the sales of CMx1 to what they have now, and I think they’ll take the best of both worlds (while abandoning what just does not serve the franchise) and fold it into the next game.
  11. I'm sure CDV has a different distribution house here in the US, hence the seemingly uncensored versions over here. Question: Did CM ever refer to SS units as “Waffen SS” outside of CMBO? Because I always remembered descriptions like: ’44 SS Rifle Squad, or ’42 SS Artillery Spotter. I don’t remember “Waffen” ever being used. Didn’t the censored CDVs simply replace “SS” with “Grenadier”?
  12. From pg. 8 of the CMBB manual: “The difference is that action in CMBB is paused to allow for player input. We choose this arrangement because we feel it is conductive to players’ development of thoughtful and realistic strategies, rather than the “click fest” that some fully “real time” games can become. It is our opinion that “continuous time” works (very well) only at a very small scale, where there are just perhaps a few soldiers under a player’s command. It does not work well at the scale of a full company or battalion, which is the level simulated by Combat Mission.” This to me is in a nutshell what made the CM series so special. I really hope that BFC returns it's focus to what made this game so great. [ September 12, 2007, 08:49 AM: Message edited by: BeauCoupDinkyDau ]
  13. Nope. They're all PDF. I still have my CMBO and CMBB books.
  14. No, sir. The CM Anthology from CDV seems to omit this travesty and provides the correct info. You can grab it from Amazon these days for a mere $15.
  15. Yeah, I pretty much am a FPS slut too. Wait a sec! Mord, are we brothers or somfink? jtcm, COD is a great FPS series. These kinds of games are fun for the pure action they offer, and although they have some realistic settings, almost none of them are realistic at all.
  16. I knew what I was talking about, but I was unaware of the juxtaposed terms I provided in my first few posts. Now I see where our miscommunications were originally coming from. But you did understand what I was talking about after a time (as your posts indicate), so don't try to let your self off the hook, mister! I was however unaware of the hasty camo's history. I was under the impression this was a very late-war camo scheme used by more than one unit on the west front (I knew it wasn't an east front pattern). Something like: "Here's your AFV boys. And here's two buckets of green paint. You've got ten minuets to come up with somekinda camo for it before we load it onto the train." Hiterjugend, summer of '44, and Normandy, huh? Well, than makes it a little too narrow for my tastes then. I don’t mind a little historical inaccuracy when it comes to the paint schemes I use in CMBB, but that would seem more than just a “little” inaccurate. Well, that solves that problem then. I guess I might go with a bi or tri-color scheme then. Again, thanks for your time, and sorry for the miscommunication. [ September 10, 2007, 08:19 AM: Message edited by: BeauCoupDinkyDau ]
  17. These are the only two files that I saw that would contain what I am looking for: GEM_Winter_JgdPzIVs_CMMOS_hr GEM_Winter_JgdPzIVs_Whitewash_CMMOS_hr Neither had the bmps I needed. I went through every file that had JgdPz, PzIV, hasty, or just "Pz" in it's title and unzipped every one. I did this process three separate times, and all I found that was close was the standard JgdPz IV "hasty" camo scheme in its non-winter form. I also scanned the standard mod (non CMMOS) pages at CMHQ as well and came up with zippo. I've also did a pretty thorough search of CM Mod Database as well. Now if that isn't methodical enough for you, oh well--whatever.
  18. That was really unnecessary. I have looked and downloaded everything that I saw with the word "hasty" in the title. I spent quite a while doing this. I am neither slothful nor do I lack common sense. If the situation bothers you so much, then don't bother with it. I made no personal request of you, but again, I appreciate the effort you have gone through. Now go change yer damn diapers and move on with your life.
  19. Again, thanks very much for the effort. I just don’t have the time or patience to go through all that will be needed to come up with one set of bmps through CMMOS. I may fish around a little more at CMHQ, but otherwise it’ll be time for me to move on. That is my all-time favorite interface for CM, BTW. I still use the main menu buttons from that for CMAK (they go along surprisingly well with Tarkus's olive interface mod).
  20. Heh, why did you delete your post? I was just about to argue with you that there was no way in you-know-where that I was going to d/l and reinstall CMBO, CMMOS and all the rule-sets to find that mod--no matter how bad I want it. LOL I really appreciate your effort on my behalf, though. I went through every German AFV file at CM.com on the CMMOS page and it just wasn't there. Perhaps it was in previous incarnations of the program, but it somehow escaped getting into the last reorganization of the set. Remember, CMMOS was not as elaborate as it is now, and sometime in '02 or '03 (IIRC) it was completely reworked. At that time the hasty camos were also available as stand alone mods that were not part of CMMOS. But after the reorg, all the stand alones that were now a part of CMMOS were wiped out (probably to save site space). If someone can just come up with the individual bmps, I would appreciate it. Otherwise, my poor ‘ole Td is gonna have to live out it’s days in whitewash. There's some good snow mods for CMBB out there, but too few IMHO. ...and hasty is not my favorit, either. I prefer bi or tri-color also. I put the hasty on the AFVs that do not come into play very often. I just like to mix my patterns up. Thanks again!
